Steyn, Mellett in hot water

Blue Bulls players Morne Steyn and Morne Mellett have been cited following alleged foul play in their Currie Cup semi-final clash against the Sharks in Durban.

Steyn was pinned for a stiff-arm tackle, while Mellett will have to face a charge of tripping Sharks flyhalf Pat Lambie in the 29th minute of the match.

Their cases will be heard on Tuesday in Pretoria.

    I understand the swinging arm citing… But since when does a trip warrant a citing?

    Reading on rugby365 Morne has been cited for two separate offences. Seems like Morne’s frustration is getting the better of him. Never seen him do anything like that before, but two separate offences, doubt he will get off easy. Terrible coming from him actually.

    Think if he does cop a ban it will be Lambie and Jantjies going on eoyt as fhs.

    Dirty bugger Mellet hope he gets more than two weeks. Have no sympathy for this player, damn dirty tripping a player up.

    @Hurricane-8:
    while i feel the trip is a minor transgression i certainly will say stiff arm tackles have no place in the game and expect him to be punished accordingly, and rightly so.

    you miss a trick trying to teach saffas how to administer the game, boet.
    rather teach yourselves.

    Why is everyone so unworried about the trip and do not think it deserves a sanction? Mellet tripped Lambie without the ball in what could have been a try scoring opportunity. It is cynical play and should be stamped out.

    Steyn should be banned for a few weeks for that cowardly act.

    Straight out of the JP Nel book of foul play.
    Amazing what frustration does to a usually calm player.

    @Craven-10:
    i say minor trangression in meaning it was not dangerous to the player or ran the risk of serious injury. and lets be honest, lambie milked it a little too.

    but sure, its not on and therfore they are in trouble.

    Yep trips are sure minor :shock:
    Foot trips are cheating. You of all people that is on the cheating crusade should not
    call this minor.
    Both players dirty and cheated…..man up and call it what it is.
