WP soldier on without Jean

Jean de Villiers is not available for the Currie Cup final but is still in the picture for the Springboks’ tour to Europe.

The Bok captain missed Western Province’s semi-final against the Lions because of a hamstring injury, and hasn’t recovered sufficiently to be considered for this week’s decider in Durban.

This means that Deon Fourie will continue to lead WP, and that Marcel Brache will start once again at No 12.

WP coach Allister Coetzee said that while De Villiers is not available to play this week, the Test veteran should be fit for the Boks’ Tests against Ireland, Scotland and England. The Test against Ireland is scheduled for 10 November.

WP are unlikely to make changes following last Saturday’s semi-final win over the Golden Lions. Gio Aplon, Eben Etzebeth and Brache sat out of Monday’s training session, but Coetzee confirmed this was precautionary and that all 22 players will be available for this week’s final.

    The imagery evoked by Province’s supposedly doomed endeavour into deep, dark Dirtbin is that of some knight heading off into the distance to slay a dragon not only breathing fire but also spewing volcanic lava! And about a trillion skeletal remains at its feet, bull horns being the most prominent at the top of the pile

    Boy, the good Lord will be sifting through a mountain of prayers rising from the Cape this week alone! :lol:

    I wondered why folk were commenting on this old thread. Now I see it’s Brads’s wanking that has attracted so much attention.
