SA’s long-term investment
23 Oct 2012
Johan Goosen has the potential to become a truly world-class flyhalf for the Springboks.
Every elite rugby playing country wishes they had a Dan Carter. But none more so than the All Blacks’ bitter rivals, the Springboks.
There have been false dawns, Gaffie du Toit the most notable of those. Others have been cast aside early as pretenders. Not so Goosen. He has something special, with just enough special to stir hope that the Springboks may have, in him, at very least a strong rebuttal to Carter, at best an answer to him.

In an exclusive interview with SA Rugby magazine, Goosen talks about:
- How he doesn’t feel the pressure of Test rugby
- Why he sometimes gets very emotional
- His early playing days
- Why he’s always prepared to ‘have a go’ when it comes to long-range goal kicks
- Why there’s no difference between kicking for posts at Super Rugby and Test levels
- How he deals with criticism
- His preferred style of play
- His challengers for the Bok No 10 jersey
- Why he’ll stay at the Cheetahs
Also in the new issue:
– Why the Springboks must make an honest assessment of their 2012 season if they are to improve
– Once South African rugby’s forgotten man, Francois Louw could ironically become one of the Springboks’ most important figures in seasons to come
– Cory Jane has proven that size doesn’t matter when it comes to Test wings
– SA Rugby magazine analyses the Springboks’ end-of-year tour opponents
– Leinster hooker Richardt Strauss could soon be representing Ireland on the Test stage
– Tim Visser was born and raised in the Netherlands, where rugby is an insignificant sport. Now he’s playing at the highest level for Scotland
– England centre Brad Barritt is finally starting to realise his potential as a Test player
– Ghanaian-born wing Raymond Rhule had an outstanding Currie Cup for the Cheetahs
– JP du Plessis is pleased to be back in the Western Cape after short stints with the Sydney Roosters and Melbourne Rebels
– Warren Gatland will become the second New Zealander to coach the Lions when they tour Australia next year, but he’s unlikely to make the same mistakes as Graham Henry in 2001

@WP-Forever-292:
Nobody stays there anymore (except the boks)
The Oyster Box is where it’s at.

@Jeraldjay-288:
Thanks, I hope so. We seem to have lost some cohesion since Lambert left. The problem is that it’s becoming more and more difficult for clubs coming from the Championship to compete against the wealthier Premier sides. Much like the CC in that respect.

David.
yep. think it also alleviates the mums somewhat too. they know their kids aren’t going to get flattened by some huge kid twice their size.

@WP-Forever-297: Ja i saw that. Actually googled the guy. He posts mostly naked pics from what I could see.
Just some guy with an inferiority complex.

Hg will never defect to the dark side.He loves having a go at everything Cape related.Actually,I think ,he loves the Cape and basically all is just jest.

@Transformation-293: Is this a gap to start talking about King Lambie again?
23 Oct 2012, 13:42 pm
@WP-Forever-299: I said 5, just to keep the game interesting…. Lead with 15 until 10 min to go, then WP scores a try to keep it close for the last 5 min………..Think of the party afterwards? it will be massive !! and rugby will be the winner!!

@gunther-301:
Right next door? I was told they have fantastic food.
We got a great corporate discount for the Beverly Hills, we were there for the shopping centre conference.
My highlight, though, was popping in to Cottonfields late at night and seeing a 70-year-old sing karaoke.
There was lots of mutton dressed as lamb…
23 Oct 2012, 13:43 pm
@David-277: @stormersboy-279: Good news that
@Transformation-293: I would walk I tell you…..(to the fridge and back) And we Saffa’s call the Kiwis ‘precious’. Honestly, our frailty in interweb pissing contests is tragic actually.
23 Oct 2012, 13:43 pm
king
your post that the shorks will win on sat. careful, you’re approaching the “poppa the arrogant” status with words like that
23 Oct 2012, 13:44 pm
@WP-Forever-292:
I stayed there when it first opened. Used to play snooker against Sol and his Indian head waiter for a glass of Remy Martin a game. I think the head waiter ended up virtually owning all of the hotels stock.

@WP-Forever-280: Hiyas Bro ^5
23 Oct 2012, 13:46 pm
@poppa69-314: LOL, I just had to change your direction….. I was about to leave the site. Gloating only happens after victory, before hand it is called hoping
23 Oct 2012, 13:46 pm
@WP-Forever-312:
shopping centre conference!
23 Oct 2012, 13:47 pm
@poppa69-314: No no no he will need to do a lot more than that to qualify for the title. To acheive that aclaim he will need to slate someone else’s country non stop, insult its people, show no respect for that country, be arrogant, a bad sport and a boastful bore.
23 Oct 2012, 13:48 pm
@David-302:
Yes it always has been difficult for teams to compete coming straight from the Championship to the big league.
Before the wealth was spread between the top 3 teams but now things have changed overnight with Man City, West Brom, and Newcastle doing well.
23 Oct 2012, 13:48 pm
@gunther-318:
Yes, the 16th Annual South African Shopping Centre Council conference.
23 Oct 2012, 13:48 pm
@The Sharks rugby pedigree is packaged as dog food-313: please, don’t say “us saffas”, i’ve take my fair share of kak on this blog and others too…you would’ve been disgusted when most of the so-called “Bulls” bloggers that left to form RT changed their nics to include a “JAN” and insulted Rossoneri.
Grant10′s son and family weren’t spared either…now for someone to cry because Nikita said they’re “poluting the site” is just laughable
23 Oct 2012, 13:50 pm
@Jeraldjay-320:
I think that West Brom and Newcastle will start slipping to mid/lower table after Xmas. That’s when lack of depth starts to take its toll.
23 Oct 2012, 13:51 pm
Skeppie
yep Bakkies really needs to change his posting style doesn’t he ? he does that daily to us kiwis, but is somehow exempt of criticism
strange huh?
mind you, with nics like “sniveling little kiw pricks”, “fu.ck new Zealand ” etc one does find it hard not to respond.
oh, you meant me huh?
23 Oct 2012, 13:51 pm
@WP-Forever-312: That is what you get for hanging around in cottonfields late at night
23 Oct 2012, 13:52 pm
@Transformation-322:
Jeepers, bro, the stuff that was said at that time was just plain nasty.
Horrible times.
23 Oct 2012, 13:52 pm
@Transformation-322:
I couldn’t exactly say ‘the Sharks saffas’ – as that would have earned me an interweb beatdown from KingTJ
So I went for the safety in numbers option, and said “WE Saffas”.
In the cases you mention, the line was well and truly crossed. Polluting a site is not an insult that can be categorised with those you mention
Pwecious indeed.
23 Oct 2012, 13:52 pm
@Skeppie-310: Lambie is klas and should start on the eoyt
23 Oct 2012, 13:53 pm
@Transformation-298: Just dig up any of his old posts. He’s like skoppie – same old, same old.
23 Oct 2012, 13:54 pm
@David-323: I hope that conincides with the Gunners finding form. We always struggle during that period.
23 Oct 2012, 13:55 pm
@WP-Forever-326:
Yep, and then Rudi started RT claiming that he didn’t want that sort of language there.
23 Oct 2012, 13:56 pm
@poppa69-324: Yes I do, you are no better than Bakkies. You would never find me making comments like that. I may be unhappy with Kiwi bloggers on this site at times and may make some comments about specific things relating to the AB’s but I will always be respectful of NZ, the AB’s and the historical competition between our countries.
23 Oct 2012, 13:56 pm
Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer’s hopes of touring with a fit and strong team to Ireland, Scotland and England next month took another blow on Tuesday when Bok loose forward Jacques Potgieter was ruled out for six to eight weeks with a groin injury.
yes no potgieter for eoyt
23 Oct 2012, 13:57 pm
@Sasuke-330:
I reckon it’s because mid winter conditions don’t suit your passing game and past defensive frailties.
23 Oct 2012, 13:57 pm
@Sasuke-328: Yes!!!! More Lambie talk…love it!
23 Oct 2012, 13:58 pm
@Transformation-309:
is dit van dieselfde RT webtuiste af waarop puma en sharkslover so gefokken huil het oor nikita? hulle’s rerig ‘pollution’ daai ****** sharkies..
23 Oct 2012, 13:58 pm
@David-323:
Yes, between Xmas and new year, thats when the business end starts.
Hopefully Arsenal can compete at the top. We haven’t won a trophy since 2005. Wenger I feel should take a position on the board and give someone else an opportunity.
23 Oct 2012, 13:59 pm
@Skeppie-335: Just cover your keyboard first. Those are a bugger to clean
23 Oct 2012, 14:00 pm
@Sasuke-333:
It should have said “improved” instead of “took another blow”.
23 Oct 2012, 14:01 pm
well Skeppie.
sometimes it’s the only way. I’ve copped plenty of over the top stuff here, so I return it, with interest.
23 Oct 2012, 14:01 pm
@stormersboy-338: Dont stress, I have mastered tantra….it’s all internalised.
23 Oct 2012, 14:01 pm
@Sasuke-330:
This year is our year……
Fark we support kak teams.
23 Oct 2012, 14:01 pm
@Sasuke-333: Isn’t that a blessing?
23 Oct 2012, 14:01 pm
@Skeppie-332:
fyi
i’m right here
23 Oct 2012, 14:02 pm
@Skeppie-341: Ok I take that back, I am not cool enough to understand tantra….dammit!
23 Oct 2012, 14:02 pm
@i_love_u_bakkiesbotha-344: I know Bakkies I can read…..sharkies bashing as usual
23 Oct 2012, 14:02 pm
@stormersboy-338: lol canned myself for your keyboard comment on the super sharks thread!
23 Oct 2012, 14:03 pm
@WP-Forever-321:
good times.
23 Oct 2012, 14:03 pm
@David-339: @KingTJ-343: copied from supersport my comment is below
23 Oct 2012, 14:04 pm
@stormersboy-338: Maybe the citing commision can do all us spectators a favour and band Morne for 2 games, then hopefully Heinek is forced to change his ways.
