Sharks defend ticket prices

The Sharks have hit back at claims that they’re overcharging spectators for Saturday’s Currie Cup final at Kings Park.

Adults will need to fork out R350 to watch the Sharks battle Western Province this Saturday, while scholars will need to scrounge together R170 for a ticket.

These prices are identical to what was charged when the Sharks hosted WP in the 2010 final, but some Durbanites have asked why a semi-final ticket is R200 cheaper than that of a final.

Sharks CEO Brian van Zyl told The Mercury that the hike in prices reflects the importance of the event. And while only 2 000 tickets were sold on Monday, Van Zyl still believes that the remainder will be snapped up before kickoff on Saturday.

Bad weather was blamed for the poor attendance to last week’s semi-final at the Shark Tank. More rain is expected on the East Coast this weekend, and it would be remarkable to see 50 000 people braving the elements considering the ticket price has doubled in the space of a week.

    Sounds reasonable.

    New Zealand you can expect to pay more then that, and then you’re usually sitting in the pouring rain freezing your behind off.

    People should stop complaining. If you bought a season ticket like a true
    supporter would then this game would’ve cost peanuts.

    Yeah, right.

    @ShaunMichaels-5: Hehe! R350 is not too bad for a premier event. Now if I were a wise-*ss (and in denial) I’d say the Sharks must cash in now because they won’t see a final any time soon again.

    @hendrikp-1:
    ITM cup tickets for final is minimum Adults $15.00 with a max of $35.00 and $7.00 per kid NZ $.
    The CC final is $50.00 NZ. So if you are paying more to see an ITM game than this then you sir have been ripped off

    “Bad weather was blamed for the poor attendance to last week’s semi-final at the Shark Tank.”

    Yet when NZ rugby is played in sometimes when the degrees outside is in single digits, we are still supposed to max out the stadium…How does that work?

    @Hurricane-11: perhaps they charge Saffas more so as to trump up their total “we bring the most money to the table” truth?

    having the weaker product I think it is about time they contribute something meaningful to SH rugby..

    I think they should pay more to stay to be honest

    (is this how banter works? )

    @Hurricane-9: @poppa69-12: I rest my case.

    You see gentlemen, it’s all Apartheid’s fault.

    During the isolation years South Africans got used to paying exhorbitant fees for “top-class entertainment”; 20 years later these prices have not been adjusted and the gullible South Africans just continue to pay believing “that’s what it costs”.

    Organisers/administrators just take the going rate for a similar event overseas, convert it into “Msanzi kuwachas”, add on the “compulsory pansela” (bonus) and Bob’s your uncle.

    They always seem to forget that we earn Rands and not Aus NZ or US Dollars. And the gullible idiot, quite happily pay!!!

    The reason the final is R200 more than the semi is that it’s against WP. Hell, I’m surprised they had the gall to charge for the semi. :lol:

    The Sharks are shooting themselves in the foot.

    We all know they can’t fill the Tank at the best of times. With the prices they are charging now, only passionate WP supporters will be willing to fork out and the Province team might actually see this as a home game… :lol:

    the price is a rip off
    an absolute disgrace
    and if they have a half full stadium they deserve it
    nothing said or written can justify such exorbitant ticket prices
    sies!
