Spies extends Bulls stay

Spies extends Bulls stay

Springbok eighthman Pierre Spies has signed a three-year contract extension with the Bulls.

Spies was linked to a move to Europe with French club Bayonne rumoured to have offered the player a lucrative deal.

However, the 27-year-old announced his new deal with the Bulls on Tuesday.

‘The Blue Bulls are my rugby home and also the environment in which I grew up,’ he said. ‘It will be an honour to again call it my rugby home for the next three years. I hope I can help write a memorable and successful part of the Bulls history during this time.’

Head coach Frans Ludeke added: ‘Pierre is a senior player and a leader who will have to carry a lot of responsibility in our vision and aim to once again become a title-winning team next season and beyond. I could not have asked for a better role model, person or player to help us become champions again.’

Spies has played in 50 Tests for the Springboks and 89 Super Rugby matches for the Bulls. He will be sidelined for the rest of the year because of a finger injury.

Excellent leader and great person for whom integrity is not negotiable. The right individual to anchor the Bulls’s culture with the pressure building on the team. The team and its management will have to replace a game plan that is way past its sell by-date and with it the architects that designed it. Vlok Cilliers should be the first to walk the plank.

i suppose you are alluding to the treatment and medication pierre spies needed to undergo for his life threatening condition of having blood clots in his lungs.

    you are a classless doos.

@Lang Giel-10: Agree. Strange how when Bulls kickers miss, they never show screenshots of him. Who are the other unions kicking coaches? Why does he need to be on the field when kickers are kicking? Apparently he never worked with the Tuks Varsity team kickers and only pitched up when they made the finals – to surprise, surprise, be on television… Joke really if you consider the Bulls woeful kicking stats this season…

@Lang Giel-10: I know a few nice guys with integrity too. At least the public has realized that they are not massive rugby players!
