Stormers seal Jantjies loan

WPRU president Thelo Wakefield confirmed that Lions flyhalf Elton Jantjies will join the Stormers on loan for Super Rugby next season.

While WP’s main focus will be on their first Currie Cup triumph in 11 years after beating the Sharks 25-18 in Saturday’s final, there is more good news for the men from Cape Town.

After weeks of negotiations, Jantjies’ loan deal was finalised late last week.

‘I approved his contract before the weekend,’ Wakefield told keo.co.za. ‘Elton’s inclusion will be a big boost for the team.’

With Demetri Catrakilis expected to join the Kings next season (Allister Coetzee aims to convince the flyhalf to stay in Cape Town) and Peter Grant only due back from Japan in February, Jantjies is expected to be given a starting berth during the earlier rounds of Super Rugby.

    Best Rugby weekend ever..

I’d start him above Bash. Elton’s the best attacking flyhalf in SA and if he gets a balance to his game that the conservative Stormer game plan will force onto him, he’ll really turn into the all-round flyhalf that the Stormers so desperately need.

    Expected but why so late?

@Gumboots-3: Who cares? We’ve got Elton!

All we need is a decent 12..

Let Demetri go to the Kings. He needs to be playing before he needs to sitting at 3rd choice (if that with a few other okes floating around).

We need to spread the talent so the cream rises to the top.

Don’t get me wrong… I’m happy he is playing in Cape Town…

@Bagel-4: JDV is too old – Grant may just be the 12 you need.

Anyway well done on getting Jantjies AC. The damage he will do on the field surrounded by a dozen Boks – not having to play in a losing team. Elton 1 Lambster 0.

Great news….just as important is the fact WP managed to retain Deon Fourie…Toulon were set to pounce so overall well done to the wp suits.

Hope the Stormers can keep him there ;)
Hope his performance against the ABs and against WP last week will earn Jantjies a place on the Boks EOYT Squad, that would be nice to watch
    Mvovo too
    :-D

Pity about all this Jantjies fanfare he is no match winner.. none at all.. I’d rather have kept Zorba and that is saying something chronic because WP’s best shot at FH would be Schreuder and then Joe Pietersen next.. Jantjies is just going to stuff up the works dammit and with all the primma donna garbage to go with it.

    @Gumboots-7:

Elton was in the supersport studios prior to the big game yesterday. Arnold Geerts tried to prime him for a prediction either way. If he’d gone Province, i reckon it would’ve let the cat out the bag. But he couldn’t say “Saarks” either – you can’t exactly vote against your future employer.

You want to go with Schroeder after a 10 minute cameo performance. No man.

@Hondo-11: how did taute go against the all blacks hondo?

  • 16.assagai: Reply to this comment

@I am a stormer-14: Yes I want to go with Schreuder it does NOT take rocket science to see with eyes wide open what works and what don’t..

Schreuder at 10 is the way to go.. play Jantjies and we do NOT go ANYWHERE in ANY kind of hurry.. DUMB bloody purchase if ever I saw any.

Schreuder and Pietersen is what WP need at 10 not Elton Jantjies… Groom at 9…back up Duvenhage.. don’t say I never warned you.. you gonna find out to your own dismay.

Terrific buy. Our backline could be special if we play him and Groom at 9/10.

About Schreuder: Never rated him at 9 and always thought he’d be better at 10 or 15. Just struggles with basic scrumhalf duties – there’s a reason scrumhalves aren’t supposed to be tall, makes me wonder why he stayed there for so long. Very good runner with ball in hand though. Think he’s got a much better chance at making it if we do develop him at 10. His decision making has shown to be poor in the past though which I can see becoming an issue.

@assagai-16: Pieterson is a better fullback. Keep him there. We need him and Taute to rotate.

I like Jantjies. We aren’t going to win anything with Grant. Jantjies and Schreuder are the way forward at flyhalf. De Allende, JdJ, Brache and du Plessis for centre pairings. JdV has been a faithful servant but he is not an attacking force anymore.

Schalk Brits ahead of Deon Fourie for EOYT.

  • 22.silent_shadow: Reply to this comment

@mikeybrass-20: Disagree there. Good decision making isn’t something that can be trained. You have it or you don’t and I’ve seen quite a bit of bad option taking by Schreuder. It can improve with age and experience sure but you need to have the ability to read the game and situation. Who knows though, maybe he will become a revelation at 10. Seen a lot of him though and my prediction is that if we play him there that’s the area that he’ll struggle in.

@Transformation-15: Hondo was pissed off with that All White Kings team that played in Bloem – unlike you

  • 24.mikeybrass: Reply to this comment

@silent_shadow-22: The bad decision-making has come from his scrum-half play. He did enough in his cameo at flyhalf to suggest that is where he is best suited. Reading a situation comes with experience and some take longer than others to mature. He can be a good flyhalf provided he makes the right decision to switch positions.

  • 25.mikeybrass: Reply to this comment

@Jeraldjay-21: At hooker, yes. As cover, no. Fourie holds the edge as cover from the bench.

  • 26.mikeybrass: Reply to this comment

@Jeraldjay-21: Ah sorry, the team has been announced.

  • 27.assagai: Reply to this comment

Schreuder can be the next Henry Honibal but they can’t and won’t see it.. just like this dumb doos springbok coach who has left Deon Fourie out his touring party..

Elton Jantjies just another prima donna flash in the pan who can run and kick and pass a little but is no world beating No.10

Schreuder and Pietersen would be the better investment long term.

  • 28.silent_shadow: Reply to this comment

@mikeybrass-24: Decison making of 9 and 10 are very closely related. Choosing to kick a ball down the throat of the opposition when he has players on his outside as a scrumhalf doesn’t mean he’ll magically make the right decision when he’s got 10 on his back.

@Grant, is Deon Fourie’s re-signing confirmed? Will improve Stormers/Provinces prospects 200% if that’s the case!

  • 34.mikeybrass: Reply to this comment

@silent_shadow-28: Shreuder’s height is unsuitable for a scrummy. He has a wider field vision from the position of a flyhalf, more room and different responsibilities. He has shown he isn’t a top scrumhalf and has shown glimpses of promise at flyhalf. I do not agree that stuffing up in one position means he will stuff up in another when he has shown that not to be the case.
