Stormers celebrate Bok boost

Stormers celebrate Bok boost

Allister Coetzee says he’s excited to have on-loan Springbok and Lions duo Elton Jantjies and Jaco Taute in his Stormers squad next year.

Taute confirmed his move to keo.co.za last Wednesday, while WPRU president Thelo Wakefield also told this site that he approved Jantjies’ deal late last week.

Coetzee believes the two players will make telling contributions next season.

‘We’re very excited about having Elton and Jaco in Cape Town for next year’s Super Rugby tournament,’ said Coetzee. ‘They’re both quality players and we look forward to getting them involved here – both on and off the field – and seeing how they fit into the Stormers culture.’

Jantjies is expected to get a run in the starting line-up during the opening rounds of Super Rugby, considering the departure of WP’s Currie Cup-winning flyhalf Demetri Catrakilis to the Southern Kings and the late arrival of Peter Grant from Japan in February.

While Taute is able to play at centre and fullback, he’s likely to compete for the No 15 jersey as the Stormers already have Jean de Villiers, Juan de Jongh, Marcel Brache and JP du Plessis in their midfield department. Damian de Allende is also considered to be in the mix after his impressive performance at inside centre in the Currie Cup final.

Taute has the option of extending his stay in Cape Town after the Super Rugby season as his contract with the Lions expires next year.

The Stormers have also signed utility forward Michael Rhodes (who can play lock or flank) and Springbok versatile prop Pat Cilliers from the Lions on permanent deals.

@ufo-133: My sincere apologies to all the WP fans who feel so hurt by my comments. I thought the Province win would’ve lifted your spirits and maybe even allow the latent sense of humour to come through. It seems it will take more than one win to get out of the deep, dark depression that resulted from the endless beatings you had to endure over so many years ;)

Chill man, enjoy it while it lasts :)

Don’t worry, we will enjoy the moment, and with our mostly 22 year old players with Currie Cup winners medals and the same for our u/19 team, I think we will be enjoying some form of success for a longer time than you would like to believe.

For months honest rugby supporters have been inflicted by the hotair and lost farts emanating from under mountain about its irrelevance…

So it is quite funny that the Currie Cup suddenly means something in the Proud Cape after all…

@cane-164: One of which is Russia. I’ve been watching some YouTube vids from Russia, cane. Most Youtube vids are in fact from Russia. And 90% of them are either road rage fights or mafia hits. Unique does not mean desirable.

@Heavens Game-163: So much so that despite all their wonderful academies & “breeding grounds” etc they still go import two of the best-players-in-the-land-in-their-positions from the Lions, and this after having helped vote them out of Super Rugby in favour of a bunch of ANC-backed palookas from the Eastern Cape.

So indicative of the stab-in-the-back attitude prevalent in South African rugby & politics.

  • 169.stormersboy: Reply to this comment

@Sasuke-165: The interresting choices will be in the first couple of matches as Schalk and Grant won’t yet be available.

Burger is only scheduled to return in the 3rd-odd week of SR I believe, and if AC has any common sense he’ll play him off the bench initially to ease him back, so if guys like Kolisi and Elstadt really make an impression it will give him quite a conundrum.

    But a good one!

    Dear G – o – d.

Please let Keegan win the SARU player of the year award (even though we know he doesn’t come close to deserving it). I know you want us to embrace the concept of “loving our brothers”, and I can think of no better way we WPIANS can show you that we buy into it. Eben and Bryan don’t need that award….but the guppie leader and his groupies REALLY DO.
If you are as loving as what I think you are, you might even throw in a prize for Marcell Coetzee?

This is me showing you that I love my neighbour as much as I love myself, as well as nailing my colours in terms of charitable acts.

My brothers and sisters who support the Shaiks, sorry Sharks, NEED something to cheer about.

    It is in your hands.

saw something a few weeks ago of AC chatting about schalk and saying he would definitely ease him into it, building up over the season…

so he’ll definitely start from the bench and build up his time and have to prove he’s still got the biz and compete with the other loosies..

  • 176.Heavens Game: Reply to this comment

I was so sure, after reading Keo and the posts of so many “staunch” WP supporters here, that nobody from the Proud Cape gave a flyingfuck about the Currie Cup anymore…

    Maybe they changed their minds…

    ….Again.

  • 177.Sasuke: Reply to this comment

@stormersboy-169: Yes agreed. A few guys have a chance to prove their worth and cement spots in the squad.

Good to hear Schalk coming back. I wasnt sure if he would ever play again. The year break probably added a year or two to his playing career.

@Heavens Game-176: I think it was beating the windgat sharks in the fishbowl! That made it all worth it. The Currie Cup took a dip last year because all the bok players only arrived during the Semis, this year the boks cam back a bit earlier, making the final rounds more realistic and acurate towards the real order of things.

Thus the reason the Lions lost all games as soon as the boks came back.

The final was epic, the WP won and the Sharks lost. Deal with it pawnscum.

Sweet lord, I made the mistake of trying to run an errand in town over lunch and got caught up in the “ticker tape parade”. And it was a pretty pisspoor show, to be brutally honest. I really feel sorry for the genuinely excited little boys and girls who turned up with their hand made posters because they were outnumbered 3 to 1 by an assortment of homeless transvestites from the local shelter, Congolese parking attendants and the entire collection of St Georges Mall loonies.
