Stormers celebrate Bok boost
30 Oct 2012
Allister Coetzee says he’s excited to have on-loan Springbok and Lions duo Elton Jantjies and Jaco Taute in his Stormers squad next year.
Taute confirmed his move to keo.co.za last Wednesday, while WPRU president Thelo Wakefield also told this site that he approved Jantjies’ deal late last week.
Coetzee believes the two players will make telling contributions next season.
‘We’re very excited about having Elton and Jaco in Cape Town for next year’s Super Rugby tournament,’ said Coetzee. ‘They’re both quality players and we look forward to getting them involved here – both on and off the field – and seeing how they fit into the Stormers culture.’
Jantjies is expected to get a run in the starting line-up during the opening rounds of Super Rugby, considering the departure of WP’s Currie Cup-winning flyhalf Demetri Catrakilis to the Southern Kings and the late arrival of Peter Grant from Japan in February.
While Taute is able to play at centre and fullback, he’s likely to compete for the No 15 jersey as the Stormers already have Jean de Villiers, Juan de Jongh, Marcel Brache and JP du Plessis in their midfield department. Damian de Allende is also considered to be in the mix after his impressive performance at inside centre in the Currie Cup final.
Taute has the option of extending his stay in Cape Town after the Super Rugby season as his contract with the Lions expires next year.
The Stormers have also signed utility forward Michael Rhodes (who can play lock or flank) and Springbok versatile prop Pat Cilliers from the Lions on permanent deals.

@gunther-197: They actually did make the 200m long tape exactly like that until some killjoy pointed out that you spell it “ticker”. So they had to bin roughly 600 000 carbon copies of tickets issued in Cape Town since February. Robin Carlisle has apparently called a brainstorm to find ways of making up the shortfall.

If I didn’t know better I would reckon that the “triumphant” WP fangirls here got massive chips on their shoulders…
But I do know better and it aint a chip on a shoulder – its just ignorance…
Ignorance as result of being in a permanent state of myopic tunnel vision where nothing exists outside the rather emotional Cape Town bubble..

@Transformation-201: Serious, I missed that one. Pressumably for the Currie Cup win as well. I give up.
I hope we win the Africa cup of Nations – I can see a week of public holidays on the horizon.

@wp. winning nothing never looked so easy-209: Don’t remember myself talking about the WP/ Stormers deserving anything besides what they achieve. I mean look at your profile name? You demean my team in it and you accuse me?
You are so obsessed with WP, you should be more concerned that your team has failed against a less talented squad with a ref helping you out, ah and this all happening at home.
WP outplayed the Sharks just like when the Sharks out played the Stormers at Newlands in the SR SF.
But by all means chow does sour grapes.

Slowly ever so slowly 4pm approaches and i am so bored as I totally missed the announcement of (and missed) the completely unexpected happy parade in Adderley Street. Allow me to speed up the minutes by poking some fun at deceptive, deceitful trick-and-treaters to a cup, all be it a day early.
How fitting, on the week-end that gives way to Halloween that a mostly spookie, druid-like, pinkiepig team actually wins that HOLLOWEE Cup (not even HOLLOWOOD could script it any better).
Yes you read it correctly, it is now a HOLLOWEE Cup for it is as empty and small and even piss-like as that VOIDandCUMinCup played early season.
In short, it is mostly worthless(and local) for without global competitors we have no benchmark measure.
Was it not the great William Shakiespearie who wrote all the world is a stage meaning only global is meaningful?

Oosthuizen has Wallaby goals
Published: Monday, 29. October, 2012
New Brumbies recruit Etienne Oosthuizen has made no secret of his ambitions to represent Australia in the Test arena.
Sharks in UAE moveThe 19-year-old utility forward, who was signed from the Lions recently, joined his Brumbies teammates in Canberra on Monday.
The giant South African, at 120kg and 198cm, played for the Lions this year before accepting an offer from former Springbok coach Jake White to further his career in Australia.
“The Brumbies have presented me with a fantastic opportunity,” said Oosthuizen, who only turns 20 in December.
“Having grown up in South Africa, the move to Canberra was a big step for me but one I felt I was ready to make,” he added.
“My goals are to become a regular Brumby and then further down the track, to represent the Wallabies.
“This is a long-term move to Australia for me so naturally I’m very excited.”
The Brumbies kick-started their 2013 Super Rugby season with testing on Monday.
The entire squad assembled, with explosive testing and a beep test showing the boys to be in good physical condition for the coming season.
Robbie Coleman produced some of the most encouraging results for the backs while Scott Fardy and Leon Power worked hard to represent the tight forwards.
Wallabies Ben Alexander, Stephen Moore and David Pocock were also on hand, with Monday’s testing the last chance for the Brumbies to assess their condition before the European year-end tour.
Head coach Jake White said he was pleased with where the squad was positioned at this stage of the season.
“The players were given their own programs to work through while they were away and it’s encouraging to see them come back in good condition,” White said.
“This time last year we were probably a bit behind the eight ball in terms of our fitness and getting to know each other. There aren’t nearly as many new faces here and the guys we have recruited are in good shape physically and mentally.
“Pre-season is always an encouraging time of year. We see players working their hardest to catch the coaches’ eyes and hopefully secure themselves a spot in the starting side.”
The Brumbies pre-season will run fulltime until December 22, when the group breaks for Christmas.

How fitting too that those ‘verkrampte/verligte’ Neanderthalls, Burger, Bekker, De Villiers, Fondse, Rassie and some others do not taste champers out of a ‘Kerrie Beker’.
Instead it is the younger, fresher faces of De Jong, ‘Rooikop’, ‘Malkop’, ‘Ebeth’ , Gio and more who taste victory while other unfortunate fresh faces like Kolisi and Carr and more miss out

Personally for me and my mates the “CC” has always been the CUP.
Mayority of my mates being Saaks and Cheat-haar supporters.
I am more of a “rugby romatic” like the history behind the CC. I do enjoy the rivalry and local derby games.
I do enjoy the SR but. Yes the quality and the intensity of CC raggas is not the same as SR but I dont care. I don’t think the SR will be around in another 20 years from now.
Even the Rugby champion ship, don’t like it. I would prefer proper rugby tours. Before I get hammered….I know its all about the MONEY!!
I am pleased about my Province team. I dont rub it in……I have been on the receiving side for 11 years.

As for that Happy Parade in Adderley Street, has the ‘Kaapse Klopse’ ever had their ‘dagga’ fun so early before Jan.1st & 2nd.(‘of liewer so laat in ‘n jaar)?
For that matter has there ever been a parade for winning a C.C. ever in C.T.?
Seems to me too many dull personalities needed their images polished a bit; such as these fake ‘politicians’, sports’ administrators, long in the tooth players and some other ‘tails-of-the-dogs’.

Sorry i cannot join in the fun as I am too busy, but maybe my clan members can help you in launching the shame that they are about to face this week and about to climax(unlike the fakes of pedigreed dog-s hit) on Saturday with an expected super show performance by General Patrick Lambie, that Scottish military man..

@The Sharks rugby pedigree is packaged as dog food-227: Nice little touching theory, but typically myopic and tunnel visioned… Also thank you for validating exactly the latter and thus my point exactly…
However, you are wrong.
I am a South African… and fark knows I would never want to live in Cape Town.
And those are pretty similar sentiments to many Saffa’s who are actually aware that there is more to South Africa than the fanciful fantasy bubble on the the South West corner of the country…
More better… Much more.

@Transformation-240: Shame is a 50 point pumping by a severely depleted team that came last on the CC log…
30 Oct 2012, 16:37 pm
@wp_boytjie-231: Yes… you may have a point with that list…
However lists, like stats rarely tell the full or true story… If you take that list and insert who the finalists were in all the years that the Sharks weren’t champs, you will find that a certain name will be most common…
And certainly proving that although maybe poorer on a given day – certainly in most years, THE BEST team not to win…

@Transformation-240: Who’s the dog sh – it now I wonder?
30 Oct 2012, 16:50 pm
Is there anything earth-shattering about a 1 in 12 minor win rate? That is barely 8% and for that to warrant a money wasting parade as part celebration is a shameful Lille Patty image polishing extravaganza in a city of millions of poor blacks(all blacks and only blacks).
How relevant is any one to the situation when he/she cannot even name any or all the teams that lay claim to the blue and white hooped rugby jersey just in the Western Cape?
Since E.T. is one of at least 10 million people without power because of a super-duper monster storm from a hurricane i will take the liberty of giving a hand-clap to you for keeping the SHAME in the spotlight.

Waiting 100 years for a trophy must surely go down as the kukkest statistic …for a so-called flagship SA rugby province.
30 Oct 2012, 16:55 pm
@The Sharks rugby pedigree is packaged as dog food-246: They get presented with about as much as a Conference “Title”… And Buffalo Bill-esque bragging rights to the best team but not champs…
Eventually the wheel does turn as the Sheepshaggers demonstrated last year… But until then, it will do…
