Ireland lose O’Connell, Ferris

Ireland will be without lock Paul O’Connell and flank Stephen Ferris during their November international series.

Both players missed the 16-12 loss to the Springboks last weekend, but there was hope they would be fit for selection thereafter.

However, it was confirmed that O’Connell (bulging disc problem) and Ferris (ankle) won’t recover in time for the team’s fixtures against Fiji and Argentina over the next fortnight.

Good news is that both prop Cian Healey and lock Donnacha Ryan have responded well to concussions tests this week.
