Boks call up Lions skipper
20 Nov 2012
The Springboks have called up JC Janse van Rensburg in place of the injured CJ van de Linde.
Van der Linde will head back to South Africa after picking up a hamstring injury on Monday.
While Frans Malherbe joined the Springbok squad last week in place of Beast Mtawarira, he’s a specialist tighthead prop. Bok head coach Heyneke Meyer has decided that he’ll need Janse van Rensburg’s services heading into the England Test this weekend to bolster the loosehead stocks.
‘Seeing that Gurthrö Steenkamp was also not feeling 100% on Monday and after the late withdrawal of Mtawarira ahead of the Ireland Test, we’ve decided it would be best to have proper cover at loosehead,’ said Meyer.
‘JC is an experienced player at Super Rugby and Currie Cup level and also captained the Golden Lions very well this year. He’s been knocking on the national door for long and this will provide an opportunity for JC to experience the Springbok culture and structures.’

JC for CJ … the way it should’ve been all along
well deserved

Pity this dumb delusional coach always manages to make the correct calls too late when forced to do so by circumstance and not by visionary design.. every correct decision he has taken was by way of default and circumstance this one being a classic case as so many others like F Louw to open side before… Now by default the correct LH prop is called up
If Cilliers and Janse Van Rensburg were to start at front row that would be the best option but he’ll start Gurthro and Jannie again…

I reckon CJ was so embarrassed that he invented an injury. He did the right thing, too.

Now meyer? really? now? joke.

cj is a retired player for almost 2 years.

CJ will probably ever play for the boks again, just like Greyling and Kruger. And Spies will probably also find it hard to get back into a bok squad.Thank goodness the forwards are beginning to settle with deserving players. Hopefully the boks backs can transform in the same way going forward… WOlivier probably wont see a bok jersey again either… Lets hope MSteyn’s days are also numbered….and JDV, Kirchner for that matter…

What about Steven Kitshoff . He is fast, consistent with a high work rate. When scrumming legally he pushes guys back

Guthro tried hard but his conditioning was shite. Actually glad he is not playing this weekend.

@simorf-9: Not better than JC. JC should have been there from the start.

@skopdiekan-2: The worst part of it is that a functioning front-row is not made in 3 days. Guys need to have time to work together before they become effective. Which is why I like the idea of selecting “provincial” front rows.

Gurthro and CJ were bossed by Scotland. Time to get a specialist in… JC has been consistently pushing scrums backwards. We need power.
I wonder if JC, Biz and Coenie would make a powerful front row.
Pushed by Eben and Andries, and Flo, Willem Duane.

@katman-5: Let’s not go crazy now, those boytjies are bottom of the SR log for a reason.
21 Nov 2012, 09:26 am
@Lions_Soutie-10: He did not look fit, was missing tackles like crazy before he got subbed. Still think Kitshoff would have been a good option at LH.

@Jake_White-13: Guthro has never actually performed for Boks in NH.
More than said as i would’ve expected him to have grown in this area considering he plays there weak in and weak out

CJ Van Der Linde is an injury prone journeyman at best. When last did he string together 2 x 80min games in a row? And when he gets his (massively overpaid) 25mins, he folds in his first scrum. Guthro apparently “brought so much energy to practice and was hitting rucks and flinging his body around” in the lead up to the Scots game. I did not see much of that on Saturday. But the Bok spindoctors and media hype machine, makes us believe. Should Heinke not rather have started with Guthro (just back from injury) on the bench against Scots? Anyhow, seems that any story can be sold as “fact” to public and we just swallow it. Only to be dissapointed every Saturday.

Loki – CJ was the man under Jake White oh well things change. I thought Heinke was string when he came on against Scotland

Cj is a useless sick note who should never even be on tour! How many mins did he play for the lions this season? Probably the total of one game! Pathetic weak lump of lard. And if Guthro does not sort out his game he can take a walk as well……he missed tackle after tackle and looked weak at scrum time.

@skopdiekan-2: Cilliers ahead of Jannie? No man that’s crazy talk.
21 Nov 2012, 15:04 pm
Cilliers is a good player and jannie looks tired. No settled front row anyway due to Beast and biz out so best go with Heinke and Cilliers for me … JdP and JC on the bench.
Its not the tight 5 anyway, main prob is the game plan .. zzzzzzzzzzzzz

@skopdiekan-2: MAybe the universe is trying to tell him something…….
Have your say
