Etzebeth off the hook

Etzebeth off the hook

Eben Etzebeth has been found not guilty of eye gouging and is free to play against England on Saturday.

Lock Etzebeth was cited on Monday by Alan Mansell of England under Law 10.4 (m) for ‘making contact with the eye(s) or eye area’ of flyhalf Greig Laidlaw in the 54th minute of the Springboks’ 21-10 win over Scotland last Saturday.

Irish IRB judicial officer David Martin ruled that the contact in the area of the Scotland player’s eyes was accidental, and as such did not constitute foul play.

This was the 21-year-old’s second disciplinary hearing after being found guilty for an attempted head-butt on Wallabies lock Nathan Sharpe during the Rugby Championship.

    @Tacitus-93:

    That is utter bullshit. No chance of Genghis Khan being a vegetarian.

    The entire Mongol nomadic lifestyle was based on food products – meat and milk (from goats, sheep and horses). To this day they still drink fermented mare’s urine in Mongolia.

    Genghis Khan’s grandson Kubla Khan declared “Meat is for men and grass is for animals”.

    The Mongols saw themselves as more masculine and manly than the vegetarian Tibetans to their south.

    @WP-Forever-101:

    In fact, a strong theory is that “Steak Tartar” originates from the Mongolians. They would place horse steaks under their saddles during a hard day’s riding, at the end of the day the meat was tenderised and they were able to eat the horsemeat raw.

    “Tartar” apparently originates from Latin Tartarus, or “Hell”, the nomadic Ta-ta people of central Asia were considered savage and bloodthirsty barbarians by the Romans and they therefore called them “Tatars” linking them to hell.

    The Russians learned the dish from the Tatars, and then exported it to Germany, where it appears additions like raw egg, capers and pickles were added.

    I’m not that far from Inner Mongolia and you’re right they are huge meat eaters, not so sure about the Tibetans though they consume lots of yak meat.

    Isn’t it Tartare? In Belgium they refer to it as Fillet Americain. When I was there as a 12 year old I ordered it thinking I was getting a real american steak. The waiter brought it and mixed it at the next table and I wondered what savages these foreigners were until I realised it was for me. My parents made me eat it whilst barely stifling their laughter. Must admit I became hooked. :lol:

    @David-123:

    I believe the general spelling is now “Steak Tartare”. There are a number of variations, for example Addis in Cape here in Cape Town serves an Ethiopian spiced version thereof called kifto.

    In Mexico they marinate it in lime juice.

    Your experience as a 12-year-old reminds me of an incident I had when I was about 8 or 9 years old, I ordered a “Lady Steak” and my uncle convinced me it was made from a real lady, I was extremely distraught and upset and tried to get the waiter to change my order… ;-)

    hehehe

    you are a larf, pointing out an instance in which a tmo overstepped his authority for the sole purpose of doing the right thing and making what was in fact the correct call as a way of somehow justifying/vindicating some of the many instances in which kiwi adjudicators have, with scant regard for the rules, used their ‘missplaced’ authority to make incorrect/wrong/false/deceitful/dishonest rulings in games which benefitted kiwi teams.

    big difference pal.

    meuwessen was wrong to have done ‘the right thing’.

    munro (is he still in rugby?) was wrong to have ‘intentionally done wrong things’.

  • 147.poppa69: Reply to this comment

    trupisero

    regardless, it wasnt his call to make. that’s akin to cheating, and I’d a kiwi TMO did the same thing it would add fuel to the conspiracy fire.

    strange you guys excuse his cheating though?
