Poms drop trio

Poms drop trio

England have dropped loose forwards Thomas Waldrom and Tom Johnson, and wing Charlie Sharples from the squad ahead of their Test against the Springboks.

The trio make way for flank James Haskell, No 8 Ben Morgan and centre Jonathan Joseph.

Loosehead prop Joe Marler is ruled out with a knee injury, which should see Alex Corbisiero get a run on Saturday.

South African-born lock Mouritz Botha also joins the squad to provide cover for Geoff Parling, who is struggling with a knee injury.

i must say, waldrom certainly is one of the more ‘interesting’ looking kiwi rugby players… and there’s no shortage of interesting looking kiwi rugby players.

I didn’t see much of the ENG/AUS game but the moments I did see, I thought Waldrom was ok. He made most tackle, most runs, most metres, equal most turnovers, only starting forward to make an offload, and almost scored a try.

But he doesn’t look like the most athletic #8 in the game. Can’t quite imagine him contesting the restart and sparking a try like Read

@ bakkies and pedigree: a mate of mine was pretty close to some of the players in the canes in the pirir and weepu era. Apparently Waldrom was exttremely fit and always won the team beep tests (I.e highest anaerobic threshold). But he has a health issue that causes him to retain fluid – ie look pudgy or fat. I don’t think that is just a story – if you look at his brother Scott who is a good nz7 sa6, he is a whippet but doesn’t out perform his bro.

Waldrom doesn’t have the skill set or top speed of Reid, but he is a good player and definitely not unfit.

Piri, now that is a different story…. Lol that boy like pies!
