All Blacks sweat over Carter

All Blacks sweat over Carter

Dan Carter picked up a leg injury at training and could miss the All Blacks’ Test against Wales on Saturday.

All Blacks head coach Steve Hansen confirmed that Carter suffered a ‘leg twinge’ at training on Thursday. The flyhalf’s availability will be confirmed on Friday.

According to reports, a recovery in time for the match in Cardiff this weekend is unlikely.

If Carter is ruled out, Aaron Cruden will step in. However, the All Blacks could have no specialist flyhalf cover because third-choice pivot Beauden Barrett is struggling with a rib injury.

    Last night on the news clip Flo and HM looked quite chummy chummy… Could Flo be the long term answer to take on the captaincy?

    Could a player playing abroad be the springbok captain? At this point Brussouw wont make the team ahead of Flo, nor Burger… JDVs is a geriatric and surely wont make it until the next world cup… And he’s such a one dimensional player these days, he plays more like de Wet Barry, without the big hits…

  • 2.Gumboots: Reply to this comment

    @Jeez-1:

    You could do much worse than that! I think Flo could become qutie a good captain. Time to get him back to Newlands too.

    What are the options? Bissie? Nothing else available and anyone suggesting Britney would destroy my weekend before a ball is kicked in anger…

  • 3.Delki: Reply to this comment

    We’re quite used to winning without Carter now, this won’t be a problem.

  • 4.Delki: Reply to this comment

    Cruden is the goods and even Beaver suffices.

  • 5.poppa69: Reply to this comment

    @Delki-4: only the Abs could win a world cup with their fourth choice 1st 5/8.

    Have every confidence in Cruden to do the job if necessary, and if he goes down i guess we would be looking at Weepu as barret is injured..

    should still have too much for Wales though

  • 6.Delki: Reply to this comment

    Poppa I have an inkling Wales will lift substantially for this game and may run us close.

    @Gumboots-2:
    Not a big fan of the Bissie idea, dont know why he made vice captain at the sharks…Hopefully Spies wont start for the boks ever again. Thank goodness, Flo, Alberts and Vermeulen clicked so well. If FDP ever gets back he’s probably the go to guy for the captaincy… but thats no long term answer either…

    Regarding the amount of rugby the SA players play, if you want to prolong your career, its probably better to play in Europe… Until the boks get central contracts (limiting their workload) having fresh players available in Europe is not a bad thing, but the captain surely must play in SA…

    HM really dont have much options for captain, but that shouldnt keep him from dropping JDV! SA rugby really need to learn from past mistakes! The poor backline play will continue with Fossil de Villiers in the mix. Drop the captain if he’s not good enough. Frans Steyn can partner with all these players: JdJ, JJP, Taute, Mapoe, Jordaan. JDV just isnt an outside center…

    Flo for captain it is then.

  • 8.poppa69: Reply to this comment

    @Delki-6: yeah they always do, but that is normal for all teams…even the Boks as well…

  • 9.Sasuke: Reply to this comment

    @Jeez-1: @Jeez-7: Yes he would be a good choice. Is he a Soutie? I think that makes a difference.

    I wouldnt mind our captain playing in Europe, its a professional era and if our best players are in Europe we must pick them.

  • 10.suffer_guy: Reply to this comment

    good player … no Goosen though! … just love the way he threw the Intercept pass -ala Earl Rose – vs the Scotish – and still got man of the match .. somewhere somehow Carter has some dirt on commentators …

    @Sasuke-11: I think Wales learned not to diss the haka :D should be an entertaining game as I think both teams have a similar approach to the game, even before Wales had kiwi coaches.

    Wales have always been tough at home for the AB’s.

    They really do seem to grow another leg for the occasion.

    But what always amazes me is that after being beaten, despite fronting up out of all expectations, the UK media then focus on extraneous issues after every Wales or England encounter.

    Its as if they blame the haka, or some foul play incident or the after match speech as the fundamental reason why NZ somehow stole a win.
