Michalak sinks Samoa
24 Nov 2012
Freddie Michalak guided France to a narrow 22-14 victory against Samoa on Saturday .
France held a slender 10-7 lead at the break, although it would be the islanders who seized the initiative early in the second half.
Joe Tekori scored and Tusi Pisi converted to put Samoa in front, and for a moment, the visitors were in sight of their second big upset in the space of two weeks. Having shocked Wales in Cardiff, they were now in a position to beat France in Paris.
But France took control as the game moved into the final quarter. Michalak displayed a cool head to slot four penalties and secure the result.

And to think, some of these SA posters wish the ABs were playing France.
Thinking France have turned a corner……nope they are just the same.

@whatever-3:
Couldn’t agree with you more – but then what fool expects consistency from France – it’s not their style, never will be? That’s not what France is about – with that said, I tell you now: if Australia had the Samoan front rank they would be the top side on the planet. Those Samoan props are the real deal and build like brick houses.
This was by far the most interesting match of the weekend and I’m flabbergasted by how much the Samoans have come on. It was wet and soggy, yet their handling and general finesse both in forwards and backs, not to mention scrummaging, lineouts, mauling and breakdown-recycling skills have come on a lot and are world class. They’re brutally physical and everyone knows that they give 110% every time. Not surprisingly they lack the confidence to kill a big team – their flyhalf let them down with his kicking and penalties for touch – but the temperament will come and when it does, they will be a world class side. Southern Hemisphere should become 5 Nations now – maybe 7 Nations with Tonga and Fiji.
With that said the French display was by no means incompetent – their defence was ferocious and they kept their heads to systematically grind out a win; Michalak is quite amazing in his comeback: I still back the Frogs on current form to beat everyone in the world for sure – and the All Blacks maybe – certainly the side that massacred the Wallabies would have beaten the Kiwis. that day.
Have your say
