Hore set for hefty ban

New Zealand hooker Andrew Hore has been cited for an off-the-ball incident which subsequently hospitalised Wales lock Bradley Davies.

Hore hit Davies off the ball during the initial stages of last Saturday’s Test in Cardiff. The incident was missed by matchday officials, but Hore has now been cited and looks likely to receive a lengthy suspension.

The time and date of the hearing, before the IRB’s appointed independent judicial officer, have yet to be fixed.

All Blacks coach Steve Hansen expects the hooker to be sidelined for some time. Hansen did not say as much, but has already called for a replacement ahead of the coming Test against England.

Dane Coles is expected to start at Twickenham.

if anyone else has followed this story on the ozzie radio presenters prank/hoax call to the hospital with the royal and the subsequent suicide of one of the nurses involved who was duped…. i just want to add my two cents and say how very sad and tragic the outcome has been.

yes, in some ways it was a rather unforseeable and extremely unexpected outcome and could even say the nurse needn’t have reacted so badly, BUT… i feel the failure/fault lies with the two radio presenters concerned.

i feel they failed this woman because the most important thing when pulling off pranks of such a nature is to, at the end, reveal yourself to the person/s involved and win them over to the prank and make sure they see the lighter side of it.
also to ascertain they are emotionally ok and not negatively affected by it, and somewhere in that space you determine ‘permissions’ on all sides to the skit (if this can be done?)

a good example where this is done well almost everytime is wackhead simpson’s pranks in which he always reveals himself and puts the person at ease at the end of the prank.

the poor nurse in the ozzie prank was not allowed an opportunity to be a part of the fun and share in the joke together and instead was left humiliated and feeling that she ‘was the joke’.

@i_love_u_bakkiesbotha-10821: My understanding is that it was the receptionist and not the nurse who took her own life?

As pranks go it wasnt the most humiliating of experiences though. She most probably had a good many other issues to deal with and this prank was the proverbial straw.

Agree that its sad and tragic though. And yes, hopefully those who play such pranks will take more cognisance of and show an elevated level of compassion for the human element after this.

    yes, agreed.
i’m not sure exactly what her role/position was.
as you say, hopefully it will serve as a lesson to others in future.

if one were to take cognisance of the human element involved on both sides of such pranks then it would be expected that they would check to see she was ok, after the prank.

considering, as you point out, one never knows the underlying issues people may be dealing with on a personal level.

considering you are keeping it in completely the wrong environment the minimum you can do is give it as much excercise and keep it as ‘mentally’ occupied with activities as possible.

Got him an all-terrain sleigh on the internet which he loves, I take him for a run with it on Saturdays. Also had a Koi-pond with fountain installed in the garden for him.

@i_love_u_bakkiesbotha-10830: He is probably also the only dog in the Western Cape with air con installed in his kennel. And my backyard is pretty spacious with plenty of trees.

I have had multiple people people asking me to allow him to bread with one of their dogs but I wont allow it. Cant bear the thought of even one of his offspring not getting the treatment it deserves from its owner.

@Taahirah-10831: There was an article recently in a local newspaper about runners (in Durbanville, Cape Town) taking huskies for a 6 to 8 km run every Saturday. They consider it as their “community” work. Good work by the athletes!!

that sounds like quite the dog box, how big is it?

throw in a mini lcd screen with dstv connection and you could probably spend some quality time on there if and when the wife puts you ‘in the dog box’..

(fyi the pet animal dog box which doubles as a husbandly ‘dog box’ for errant partners is an idea i am seriously toying with, patent pending).

@Taahirah-10832: WOW !!!!! You must really love your dog….that is extreme, was just hoping he had a nice cool place beneath some trees. Seen some living in hot courtyards with a tin sheet to keep out the sun. Was like a sauna for them, people are very ignorant, had it when people breed dog/cats for money. Seems so tacky, so dogs looking for homes but so many only want purebreds.
