Hore set for hefty ban
26 Nov 2012
New Zealand hooker Andrew Hore has been cited for an off-the-ball incident which subsequently hospitalised Wales lock Bradley Davies.
Hore hit Davies off the ball during the initial stages of last Saturday’s Test in Cardiff. The incident was missed by matchday officials, but Hore has now been cited and looks likely to receive a lengthy suspension.
The time and date of the hearing, before the IRB’s appointed independent judicial officer, have yet to be fixed.
All Blacks coach Steve Hansen expects the hooker to be sidelined for some time. Hansen did not say as much, but has already called for a replacement ahead of the coming Test against England.
Dane Coles is expected to start at Twickenham.

Celebrity bad science: Dried placenta pills and oxygen shots
Pop guru Simon Cowell carries pocket-sized inhalable oxygen shots, America’s Mad Men actress January Jones favours dried placenta pills, and British soap star Patsy Palmer rubs coffee granules into her skin.
Celebrities rarely shy away from public peddling of dubious ideas about health and science, and 2012 was no exception.
In its annual list of the year’s worst abuses against science, the Sense About Science (SAS) campaign also named former US presidential candidate Mitt Romney for spreading misinformation about windows on planes, and Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps for false justifications for peeing in the pool.

Peeing in the pool, lol. farkin disgusting. Good that Chad beat him.
One should not even pee in the sea as it might attract sharks (not scientifically proved but it is possible)
That is why surfers only pee in their wetsuits when close to the shore after the last wave of the session.

RIP Tony Greig. It took a Saffa to introduce some aggression and steel into the England side.
29 Dec 2012, 07:09 am
sorry to hear he’s succumbed to the cancer David.. thanks for posting the sad news..

Sad, sad news. RIP Tony Greig – I didn’t even know he was ill.
Condolences to his family & many friends around the world.
29 Dec 2012, 07:37 am
rip…the Windies made him eat his “we will make them grovel” comments though
29 Dec 2012, 07:43 am
@BrumbiesBoy-18776:
That’s why he didn’t commentate during the Aussie/Proteas series. He reckoned he’d be back again in the New Year.
29 Dec 2012, 07:48 am
@David-18778: did you see that robin jackman also got a tumor removed from his throat? a female cricket fan heard him doing commentary & got in touch with someone who knows him & insisted he gets checked out & indeed he had one.
29 Dec 2012, 07:48 am
@Transformation-18777:
Sure, but he was always in the face of the opposition. His active involvement with Packer cost him the England captaincy but also changed the face of cricket.
29 Dec 2012, 07:49 am
@Transformation-18779:
I know he had the op, but had no idea of the story behind it. Thanks for the info.
29 Dec 2012, 07:57 am
@David-18778: Thanks David, to be honest I didn’t watch any of that series, only the odd highlights and thinking about it now didn’t even realise that he wasn’t there.
It’s at times like this that you realise how short life is, the report on Supersport says that he was diagnosed in October.
And now he’s gone already…
29 Dec 2012, 08:01 am
Morning all!
Sad news about Tony – RIP: Tony always tried to “keep the balance in the Aus commentators’ views” especially when commentating in Aus vs SA matches IMO
Transie yes the female’s dad is actually a friend of Jackers. If I’m not mistaken she is a speech therapist or something like that. Fortunately she knows Robin well and noticed the difference in voice etc. As they say, “thank heavens for small mercies”
29 Dec 2012, 08:27 am
@Charles…yes, that’s her…she is indeed a speech therapist…i thought it was an amazing story.
29 Dec 2012, 08:29 am
Dumb Dumber and Dumdum…..for those of you who didn’t know the Namibian govt said Seals are not animals and will carry on with their yearly 80 000 seals cull.
We have IFAW, Sea Shepherd Conservation Society,NSPCA, Seal Alert etc involved.
Not an animal…wtf…..its like f@rting against thunder sometimes.
29 Dec 2012, 08:37 am
@Treehugger-18719: sorry.thar was just an exploratory shot.not the 1,st salvo
29 Dec 2012, 08:43 am
@Treehugger-18785: When I do drink beer I make sure it’s not Namibian.
29 Dec 2012, 08:50 am
@Transformation-18784: It is a great story! I haven’t heard whether he’ll require chemo etc.
I’m glad it was picked early though!
29 Dec 2012, 08:54 am
@Angostura-18725: I miss the point quite often.Sorry
29 Dec 2012, 09:06 am
@Rye……:mrgreen:
@Brumbiesboy……that actually means a lot to me, shows you are aware even if you know you can’t really do anything about it and if you did ever witness any form of animal abuse you would not stand for it. Now if you were a Sharks supporter you would be nearly perfect
29 Dec 2012, 09:08 am
hey treehugger…
tried to do my little bit back in mid 90s…
shocking thing is… (or was… it may have changed as i’ve not been personally involved since…) shocking thing was they don’t even use the seals’ bodies or pelts… at that time the only thing they used were the seals penises… seriously… would club the creatures cut out the penises often before they were properly dead… and just leave them there…
they dried out the penises in the sun then when they are dry and light ship them to china where they would be ground into powder and served to the little men by the gram…
they use pay a dollar or so per seal… and sell powder for a helluva lot more… can’t recall the actual figures… but their one dollar per seal use to turn into over 1000 dollars or so of profit…
they were supposed to use the whole seal… for pet food, leather and fertilizer from the bones… were supposed to have to erect a factory for the purpose… all they did was put up an empty framework partially covered in corrugated iron… didn’t even have a proper floor… legally that fulfilled their obligation… and the namibian government wouldn’t push for anything more…
it was too expensive to process the dead seals and reduced their profits so they just leave the bodies to rot…
as i say i don’t know if any of this has changed since the… but you are quite right…
it is a shameful story… and tragic how we africans are letting our wildlife be wiped out… mostly for asians, mostly for aphrodisiac and other mumbo jumbo purposes…
when all the minerals run out… which they eventually will do… there will be no wildlife left… because we feel it is our right to use it as we please in the short term…
if however, our leaders saw it as our responsibility to accept custodianship of our wildlife now in the short-term and to preserve and cherish it to be able to pass it on to our descendants,… then when the minerals run out (and now too but moreso then) africa could sustain itself of environmental tourism…
the shortsightedness is simply astonishing…
ancestors are spoken of with reverence… and rightly so… i wonder however… how reverential generations in 100, 200 or 300 years time will be of their ancestors who could have preserved the continents wildlife but chose instead to feed their own greed…?
29 Dec 2012, 09:09 am
and it’s not even about jobs… they employed less than a 100 people at the time for about a month…
29 Dec 2012, 09:12 am
and it’s not about seals eating all the fish either…
if that was the case there’d be no fish at all… and no seals…
seals have been eating fish and breeding on the namibian coast for thousands of years… if they ate more than could be naturally sustained there’d be no fish left to eat… and consequently the seals would’ve all died out and/or moved elsewhere…
29 Dec 2012, 09:19 am
morning keolings
29 Dec 2012, 09:20 am
howdy rye and treehugger…
it really doesn’t have to be that way guys… hating the opposition and their fans is the easy way…
loving and supporting your own team while respecting and being civil to the opponents and their fans may take a bit more effort, common sense and intelligence… but surely worth a try… even for the dummies like me…
hunting with the pack is easy and convenient… hunting alone requires a little more independence, skill and determination…
just a thought…
29 Dec 2012, 09:26 am
Hi UFO….its more or less the same….still want the winkies…it has been very difficult getting near the culling grounds, by sea now impossible, they sent out some of their navy kind of boats to stop some taking footage. By land was really difficult but some footage was taken and is really horrific and barbaric….even clubbing seals with the infants still drinking milk from the teat. A LOT of the time it s a matter of the seals dieing a lingering death.
A runner had to be done cos the Namib govt has patrols out to sop this kind of footage being exposed and a few persons sort of smuggled away because of their international profile. I know I am very vague at times and actually have to be, difficult when also want to make people aware.
Same with facebook, at least there your friends can be put into groups and certain things and conversations are only seen and contributed to that grouping.
What you saw can never leave you and can be so soul destroying. I try avoid any bad visuals unless I have to actively participate, but I don’t really do that anymore, its just to much after a while so sanctuary is mostly as hardcore as it gets, but you always seem to be on some kind of list even though they can just suspect any past transgression I must state I don’t and have never done anything that can be deemed dodgy
read that feckwits
29 Dec 2012, 09:31 am
@UFO…..that’s the thing, its not even about the fish or seal numbers grow out of control.
There was a little scandle with one of the govt officials involved, can’t for the life of me remember what right now, some kind of booboo and backpeddling required.
29 Dec 2012, 09:32 am
hey treehugger…
yeah… the violence and cruelty of it all is really sickening…
also strange that the namibian government is using state apparatus to basically work for a private commercial concern…
that basically makes their defense department mercenaries for hire… how proud they must be…
29 Dec 2012, 09:35 am
anyway… slow on mobile…
and stuff to do…
chat another time…
