Hore set for hefty ban
26 Nov 2012
New Zealand hooker Andrew Hore has been cited for an off-the-ball incident which subsequently hospitalised Wales lock Bradley Davies.
Hore hit Davies off the ball during the initial stages of last Saturday’s Test in Cardiff. The incident was missed by matchday officials, but Hore has now been cited and looks likely to receive a lengthy suspension.
The time and date of the hearing, before the IRB’s appointed independent judicial officer, have yet to be fixed.
All Blacks coach Steve Hansen expects the hooker to be sidelined for some time. Hansen did not say as much, but has already called for a replacement ahead of the coming Test against England.
Dane Coles is expected to start at Twickenham.

Mike Hussey announces retirement from international cricket. Great player.
29 Dec 2012, 10:16 am
@zub-18801:
Yes, great is an apt description.
Imagine if he got his test start earlier, he had to wait till his 30′s.
Sad to hear of Tony Greigg.
29 Dec 2012, 10:25 am
@zub-18801: Yes, a great player (how the Proteas could do with a #6 of that calibre & class)!
A huge loss for Australia, & international cricket generally. Aus in a rebuilding phase, & whilst they have an abundance of pace, swing & seam riches, their spin & batting depth looks unusually meagre.

RIP Tony! To think he had just been diagnosed with cancer and then dies from a heart attack.
He was a really good commentator and took the Ozzie commentators on, especially when playing agaist SA…

@BrumbiesBoy-18782: A radio report earlier said he died of a heart attack.

@ufo-18791: I feel positively nauseous now after reading that.
“Constructive Culling” is one thing but there has to be a far less barbaric way of doing it.
29 Dec 2012, 11:15 am
@zub-18801: Hi Zub, I don’t think we have spoken before. Isn’t Hussey’s retirement a bit premature ? IMO he still had at least one season “left”. He was in great form recently
Aussies will have to bring in another inexperienced player. Hussey was so solid, yet most of the time a positive batsman! Huge loss to Aus.
Nortier: morning – I saw your info re Claassens – thanx for that. I should’ve read the original article and not the shortened version on Sport24. It makes sense – it would be a waste though IMO for Toulon to play Michalak at 9 but I guess if you have Jonny W you try and “work around” it to please everybody.
29 Dec 2012, 11:17 am
@CharlesM-18808:
Morning Charles
According to Hussey he wants to spend more time with his 4 kids.
That’s the only reason he gave for the retirement.
29 Dec 2012, 11:18 am
@BrumbiesBoy-18806:
Caused by the cancer and its treatment, apparently.
29 Dec 2012, 11:23 am

@ufo-18798: And I’m sure the relationship between “Kickbacks Galore” & the Namibian government is as rosy as ever…
And yes, I know I’m speculating but so what.
29 Dec 2012, 11:31 am
@nortierd-18809: hi Nortie yes I’ve just read the article. He’ll be missed: apart from being an excellent player he is a very pleasant person as well.
It’s not often nowadays that a professional quits to spend more time with the family – obviously his family is at the top of his list of priorities!!

Chief Seattle’s Letter
to the President of the United States, 1852
(attributed to Chief Seattle, but unverified; this is one of several versions)
“The President in Washington sends word that he wishes to buy our land. But how can you buy or sell the sky? The land? The idea is strange to us. If we do not own the freshness of the air and the sparkle of the water, how can you sell them? Every part of this earth is sacred to my people. Every shining pine needle, every humming insect. All are holy in the memory and experience of my people.
We know the sap which courses through the trees as we know the blood that courses through our veins. We are part of the earth and it is part of us. The perfumed flowers are our sisters. The bear, the deer, the great eagle, these are our brothers. The rocky crests, the juices in the meadow, the body heat of a pony, and man, all belong to the same family.
The shining water that moves in the streams and rivers is not just water, but the blood of our ancestors. If we sell you our land, you must remember that it is sacred. Each ghostly reflection in the clear waters of the lakes tells of events and memories in the life of my people. The waters murmur in the voice of my father’s father. The rivers are our brothers. They quench our thirst. They carry our canoes and feed our children. So you must give to the river the kindness you would give any brother.
If we sell you our land, remember that the air is precious to us, that the air shares its spirit with all the life it supports. The wind that gave our grandfather his first breath also receives his last sigh. The wind also gives our children the spirit of life. So if we sell you our land, you must keep it apart and sacred, as a place where man can go to taste the wind that is sweetened by the meadow Flowers.
Will you teach your children what we have taught our children? That the earth is our Mother? What befalls the earth befalls all the sons of the earth.
This we know: The earth does not belong to man, man belongs to the earth. All things are connected like the blood that unites us all. Man did not weave the web of life; he is merely a strand of it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself.
One thing we know: Our God is your God. The earth is precious to him and to harm the earth is to heap contempt on its Creator. Your destiny is a mystery to us. What will happen when the buffalo are all slaughtered? The wild horses tamed? What will happen when the secret corners of the forest are heavy with the scent of many men and the view of the ripe hills is blotted by talking wires? Where will the thicket be? Gone! Where will the eagle be? Gone! And what is it to say goodbye to the swift pony and the hunt? The end of living and the beginning of survival.
When the last red man has vanished with his wilderness and his memory is only the shadow of a cloud moving across the prairie, will these shores and forests still be here? Will there be any of the spirit of my people left?
We love this earth as a newborn loves its mother’s heartbeat. So if we sell you our land, love it as we have loved it. Care for it as we have cared for it. Hold in your mind the memory of the land as it is when you receive it. Preserve the land for all children and love it, as God loves us all.
As we are a part of the land, you too are part of the land. This earth is precious to us. It is also precious to you. One thing we know: There is only one God. No man, be he Red Man or White Man, can be apart. We are all brothers.”
Chief Seattle
“Native American isn’t blood. It is what is in the heart. The love for the land, the respect for it, those who inhabit it, and the respect and acknowledgement of the spirits and elders. That is what it is to be Indian.”

29 Dec 2012, 11:37 am
@CharlesM-18808:He’s 37, with a young family, there’s nothing really left for him to achieve in international cricket, and he’s leaving on a high (after a string of test centuries). Also, he’ll still play 20/20 cricket for a few years (and earn a pile of money while not working nearly as hard as an international cricketer). Seems a sensible decision.

Morning all!
I think Hussy didn’t want to overstay his welcome in the Ozzie team and saw what happened to Punter. I think he is doing the right thing in retiring when he is still on top of his game. Personally I think they are going to struggle for a few years as he was the glue in their batting lineup! Watson also doesn’t want to bowl anymore and wants to be selected as a batsman only… Watson is a great talent but hasn’t set the world alight with his batting. I think he is an allrounder who should bat at 7.
29 Dec 2012, 12:11 pm
@ryecatcher-18817: Now all you have to do is to work out how to use the spellcheck and you’re ‘A’ for away!!!
29 Dec 2012, 12:20 pm
@zub-18818: It makes sense to keep on playing the T20 tournaments – you’re not away from the family for too long but, like you’ve said, keep making a pile of money!!
29 Dec 2012, 13:08 pm
@Gumboots-18820: such a pity Plod did not adopt the same approach.

29 Dec 2012, 14:19 pm
@Angostura-18803: I think that the
Aussies do this on purpose to keep their team rejuvenated.
Think Langer,Haydn,Lee,Gilchrist ,Warne all retiring when they
would have walked into any other Int.team.
29 Dec 2012, 14:37 pm
18828 Rye, I guess the question is who will replace Hussey ?
29 Dec 2012, 15:03 pm
@ryecatcher-18828: yeah, but you omitted McGrath, arguably the greatest amongst that list of superstars
29 Dec 2012, 15:36 pm
wow…didnt know Greig was an EP boy & Queenian to boot…
Ali Bacher:
“He was proud of his upbringing and, at
every opportunity, paid tribute to the
excellent cricket grounding he received
from Queen’s College where he went to
school,” said Bacher on Saturday as the
news broke of Greig’s death.
“He passed on his love of his native
South Africa to his young son Tom, who
can often be seen wearing a Springbok
rugby jersey or Proteas cricket shirt.”
Greig, who died on Saturday at his
home in Sydney, Australia, at the age of
66, was born in Queenstown, in the
Eastern Cape. The 66-year-old suffered
a heart attack in the midst of his battle
with advanced-stage lung cancer.

R.I.P. Tony Grieg.
He once took on Neil Andrews in a Super Saturday Show saying he was making stupid and idiotic jokes.
Andrews was visibly embarrassed and didn’t say much for the rest of the show.
Channel 9 has raised the bar in international sports broadcasting and Grieg was key to their success.
