Hore set for hefty ban

New Zealand hooker Andrew Hore has been cited for an off-the-ball incident which subsequently hospitalised Wales lock Bradley Davies.

Hore hit Davies off the ball during the initial stages of last Saturday’s Test in Cardiff. The incident was missed by matchday officials, but Hore has now been cited and looks likely to receive a lengthy suspension.

The time and date of the hearing, before the IRB’s appointed independent judicial officer, have yet to be fixed.

All Blacks coach Steve Hansen expects the hooker to be sidelined for some time. Hansen did not say as much, but has already called for a replacement ahead of the coming Test against England.

Dane Coles is expected to start at Twickenham.

We should drink a shooter each time any player puts in a hard hit on Pukie

Imagine how much you’ll drink during the Derbies?

If we agreed on everything, the world would be a very dull place.

At least we agree on which rugby team is the best in the country.

Many people are still unwilling to accept Kallis’ greatness because of a so-called boring approach to the game.

In my opinion, entertainment value should be excluded as criteria when discussing greatness. Otherwise people will start to discuss Flintoff when comparing the “great” allrounders of the game.

In any case, calling Kallis an allrounder is an insult to his ability. He is one of the greatest batsmen of all time, who – by the way – also has 282 test wickets.

For the teetotalers out there, they can have a shooter every time my side scores a four try bonus point.

I would have gone for Sobers, not only because of the entertainment value but also because he was even “more of an all rounder” than Kallis in the sense that he could bowl fast as well as two different types of spin at the top level. So he was basically “3 players into one “.

As far as SA all rounders are concerned it will be hard to choose between Kallis and Mike Proctor with Proctor the better bowler and Kallis the better basman – and Proctor by far the most explosive of the 2 but Kallis the more solid.

Proctor was arguably the most naturally gifted SA player of all time imo.

C’mon Willie, entertainment got everything to do with it.

Without the fans/TV rights the game would not exist.

Apparently Sachin Tendulkar went to see Don Bradman at his 90th birthday and while they were talking about averages Sachin asked, ‘Sir Don, if you were playing today, what would you have averaged?’ Bradman replied , ’70 – probably.’ When Sachin asked , ‘Why 70 and not your actual average of 99?’ Bradman said, ‘Come on, an average of 70 is not bad for a 90-year-old man’.

Interesting point. I know it’s unfair to ask, but on how many tests played should one decide on the criteria.
Not Proctor’s fault he couldn’t have a full International career, but looking at Kallis’ longevity and the opposition he played against, coupled with his faultless fielding, he certainly rates higher than any other IMO.

  • 20414.willievz: Reply to this comment

@Robzim-20407: Kallis is not an allrounder.

He is an all-time great batsman with 44 test centuries.

Oh, and by the way, he has 282 wickets.

He must have family behind the camera, no other manager gets close to that amount of air time.
Cheeky will be swilling Johnny Walker Blue down his gullet in the hospitality suite, he has one year to live it up, not going to miss out, so I doubt the camera will pick him up.

@Robzim-20407: Sorry Robzim but some would day that Eddie Barlow and to some extent Trevor Goddard were as good or not better than Proccie. Bunter was phenomenal at getting the breakthrough when it was needed and also opened the batting. Never forget him conjuring up some of the shots that players have only now started to incorporate in their 20/20 game.

Tough one. I guess the bottom line is one cannot really compare players from differnt era’s- too many differences between th eras to take into consideration for the comparison to be 100% valid or fair.

Sure.. as a batsman he is tops… but my point was that IF they must compete for an allrounder positon it will be hard to choose.

Agree, made that point, it’s a different game.
Today’s batsmen have definitely evolved and have a much bigger shot selection, the good ones that is, no current NZ batsmen in that bracket.
    @victoriabok-20427:
The better bowlers still get their wickets, but remember, give today’s bowlers 6 bouncers per overs like in those days, they will also hurt you.
Now they have a one bouncer per over rule to contend with

For all you seeming smartaresed cricket mugs, be duly informed that the old , genuine and denied Windians, Indians and Pakistanis would own 99% of all the records(they own much in any case) as they did not play, in their day, against the weak national teams that existed or came into cricketing existence anytime from the 1950s to the present; that includes S.Africa, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Bangladesh let alone the Irish, Dutch, Afghanistanis etc., etc., etc. – So STFU, you morons.

Can any of you deny that the likes of Viv and Garfield and Collie Smith and Headley etc., etc., etc. would have smacked Hugh ‘Toey’ Tayfield or any of his brothers or Athol McKinnon or Kelly Seymour or Adcock or Heine or many more for 8 sixes in an over?

In the absence of Eternal Truth you are mere followers as now, so suddenly, indicated by the elevation of Sir Gary Sobers to the very best ever because you were long ago educated that he was the only triple cricketer(in one) to grace the fields of the world he was allowed to grace ; do you even know why and do you really care as you so care about farm workers in your areas?

As it already is today your arses are paining you as the likes of Philander, Petersen and Amla have blackened your cricketing day and reclaimed their home of cricket.

They added to the entertainment of cricket, immensely so.

And many mediocre cricketers can grow a moustache and / or do chicken dances when they get a wicket. But that does not make them good at cricket. Hence entertainment value should not be criteria for a great cricketer. For batsmen and bowlers you should only consider their ability with willow and leather.
