Hore set for hefty ban
26 Nov 2012
New Zealand hooker Andrew Hore has been cited for an off-the-ball incident which subsequently hospitalised Wales lock Bradley Davies.
Hore hit Davies off the ball during the initial stages of last Saturday’s Test in Cardiff. The incident was missed by matchday officials, but Hore has now been cited and looks likely to receive a lengthy suspension.
The time and date of the hearing, before the IRB’s appointed independent judicial officer, have yet to be fixed.
All Blacks coach Steve Hansen expects the hooker to be sidelined for some time. Hansen did not say as much, but has already called for a replacement ahead of the coming Test against England.
Dane Coles is expected to start at Twickenham.

This one’s for Wnbb, Transformation and any other “believers”…
MERIT ONLY, NOTHING ELSE IS ACCEPTABLE – PAULSE
Breyton Paulse stepped into the debate over transformation within South African rugby and urged the administrators to cool their desire for instant promotion for black players within the Springbok team.
The Springbok wing flew out with Jake White’s squad last night en route to Sydney where South Africa will play Australia in the first Mandela Cup match on Saturday week. Before he left, Paulse called for less political intervention and rejected the view of SARU President Brian van Rooyen that a set number of players should be included in every Springbok squad.
Paulse, who has played in 51 Tests for South Africa and is as outstanding a role model as you could find, says Jake White’s softly-softly approach to bringing through young black players to the top level is right.
“I think Jake is right to have taken this stand and says that he must select the team. He has to make the calls, take the responsibilities and the consequences.
“He is best played to decide when a player is ready to make the step up to Test rugby.
“He must feel happy with the team he puts on the field. Unfortunately, at the top level, there is too much political intervention.
“The trouble is, nobody put things in place where this was dealt with professionally. In some ways, the quota system works because these young guys get opportunities.
“But if you throw them in the sea too early, many of them will not be equipped to swim all of a sudden. Just chucking people in before they are ready will do more harm than good. Some you can push in quickly, but others will need more time.”
Paulse warned of the potential damage to young players who have had few advantages in their earlier life.
“Suddenly they get big contracts worth big money. Their eyes get big and they soon disappear as serious sportsmen. No one taught them how to use that to their advantage, how to become serious and professional.”
Paulse says in probably five years’ time, this situation will change. He points to the success of the the South African Under-19 and Under-21 World Cup-winning teams and says he felt proud to see the integration that has already been achieved.
“It was great to see all those talented kids and they are a great example. You could see they were happy together and that a wonderful bond had been created among them. We should learn from those guys.
“But above all, we should remember that this process should not be artificially rushed. It will happen. It is coming as we have seen. That is the future.”
As for his own experience Paulse said: “I accepted from the beginning that you have to be there on merit to get into the Springbok side. Nothing else is acceptable.”

@BrumbiesBoy-21151: sorry, opening paragraph should read: “Breyton Paulse yesterday…”
4 Jan 2013, 12:54 pm
@BrumbiesBoy-21151: And the end of the second paragraph should read: “that a set number of black players should be included…”
4 Jan 2013, 12:55 pm
@BrumbiesBoy-21151: And yet he accepted his selection ahead of Jacque Fourie against England in 2004, after political interference…
4 Jan 2013, 12:56 pm
@BrumbiesBoy-21151: Sorry, bad typist I am the fifth one should start: “He is best placed to decide…”
4 Jan 2013, 12:59 pm
@willievz-21154: Sure, but maybe then he was still a bit “green” and only realised it about a year later when this article was written.

11111.
Just random numbers really.
like 666.
4 Jan 2013, 13:36 pm
@cane-21165: And the random numbers 666 are far more appropriate than 11111 when HG is in question…..
4 Jan 2013, 13:37 pm
11111 might be a random number.
But what a random number.

@BrumbiesBoy-21151:
“He points to the success of the the South African Under-19 and Under-21 World Cup-winning teams and says he felt proud to see the integration that has already been achieved.”
That was 7 years ago. It would be interesting to see how many of those players of colour actually went on to play for the Boks.

@willievz-21164:
I remember once……………………………………Jonah was in full flight, running down the side line …………………………………….only Breyton between him and the line.
pause here for a moment…………………………….Jonah 115 kgs, Breyton maybe 80 kg dripping wet. (maybe less).
Well, Paulse managed to get hold of one thigh, and hang on he did. Like a barnacle……………………………………………………..for maybe 3 seconds till the cavalry arrived.
Ref blows the whistle, and one by one the defenders rise up. Last man up, Paulse.
Saved a try for sure. Was dragged clutching Jonah’s leg 20 metres.
I will never forget that.
ever.

4 Jan 2013, 14:12 pm
@cane-21171:
yes, i think i remember that too but cant say which game it was.
my best paulse memory was/is the 1999 3rd place play off against NZ.
paulse outran the entire all black team, from inside our half i think, chipped ahead twice and then regathered and scored after cullen failed to secure the ball.
it was a brilliant try and the only one of the match and you just knew the boks were gonna win that game once he scored.
pity Mallet opted for Kayser in the game against Oz.
4 Jan 2013, 14:15 pm
@cane-21172:
right, you’re on.

Young Patel taking fire.
4 Jan 2013, 14:23 pm
@TooMuchRugby-21170: Sure, fair point, but having said that it would also be nice to see which (white) players didn’t make it because of the QS. But it will also all be academical/theoretical because the old story of “would/wouldn’t he’ve made it were it not for the QS?” will sadly still apply nevertheless and we’ll never know.
However I’m convinced our two cutting-and-pasting experts are hard at work as we speak!

Good question,
Last I was there was in 2007, but for the Police World Cup.

Must plan my next holiday to Cape Town to coincide with the Boxing Day test.

My sister went through yesterday.
Think she was on Keo at some stage as well, probably under something like Stormergirl or something to do with Stormers.
