Hore set for hefty ban
26 Nov 2012
New Zealand hooker Andrew Hore has been cited for an off-the-ball incident which subsequently hospitalised Wales lock Bradley Davies.
Hore hit Davies off the ball during the initial stages of last Saturday’s Test in Cardiff. The incident was missed by matchday officials, but Hore has now been cited and looks likely to receive a lengthy suspension.
The time and date of the hearing, before the IRB’s appointed independent judicial officer, have yet to be fixed.
All Blacks coach Steve Hansen expects the hooker to be sidelined for some time. Hansen did not say as much, but has already called for a replacement ahead of the coming Test against England.
Dane Coles is expected to start at Twickenham.

Kungani, Dumela, Goeiemore; Bonjour; Goodmorning; Kia Ora to all…
So no cricket today…As I said to UFO before the test – make sure you go during the first three days as it will be over come day four…
5 Jan 2013, 08:48 am
so that’s why the gates are closed here at newlands and there’s no one around…?
hey bill… indeed you did.. and it sure was…
better fielding on thursday afternoon and we may well have wrapped it up in two days…
hope the guys keep their feet on ground and stayed focused on the job at hand… no room for complacency… New Zealand came back well in their second innings…
predictions for the second test… and the selections…

@Gumboots-21251:
Howzit mate. Long time since i’ve seen such an understrength team hit our shores.
Did you see my post to you re the S15 fixtures?
5 Jan 2013, 09:00 am
@ufo-21252:
I reckon the Proteas will go in with an unchanged side. St Georges Park is a bit of a batsmen’s paradise but I still don’t see the kiwis taking it to a 5th day. Not if we bat first.
5 Jan 2013, 09:04 am
Having initially fought back bravely (and effectively), Sri Lanka now in the process of capitulation.
What’s it with India & Sri Lanka?
5 Jan 2013, 09:08 am
yeah stormer… plenty chat at the ground about the form/confidence of elgar… but I guess he may bounce back against new zealand… against stronger opposition he might not be retained…
but if our bowlers just go through the motions new zealand wont be the fairground shooting gallery they were on wednesday… we do need to stay focused and take the challenge seriously…
5 Jan 2013, 09:08 am
Morning all
@I am a stormer-21254:
Think you are right there, also difficult to justify changing a team if you won in 2 & half days.
I think the only player that has question marks is Elgar, but maybe I’m being unfair, it’s still early days for him.
5 Jan 2013, 09:19 am
@I am a stormer-21253:
Howzit boet! Will see you at Loftus for Super 15 opener…
Happy new year mate…
5 Jan 2013, 09:19 am
hey nortie…
true… guess they’ll stick with the same line up
5 Jan 2013, 09:20 am
@ufo-21252:
Ja the only difference was I said we needed to bat first and put big numbers on the board… It worked out nicely though…
5 Jan 2013, 09:22 am
@ufo-21252:
I would bring in Stian Van Zyl for Elgar. It doesn’t take long to figure out if someone could make it in the big time. Unfortunately Elgar doesn’t look the part. He, like Vaugn Van Jaarsveld as good provincial players but don’t have what it takes to make it in the big league. Other than that unchanged. Could rest one of the quickies and bring in Smallfield…
5 Jan 2013, 09:24 am
@Angostura-21255:
Inevitable I guess… They have become like Pakistan – start well and then fall like a pack of cards…
5 Jan 2013, 09:29 am
yeah bill… it worked out great… you were spot on in the broader context…
that spell by vern was amaZING…!!
that’s ZING with the ‘ama’ prefix that i saw in a doccie of a new south african animated movie
5 Jan 2013, 09:31 am
@ufo-21263:
Yeah a great spell of bowling indeed. At one time I thought he could bag all ten… He asks questions all the time. Mr consistent… amaZING indeed…
5 Jan 2013, 09:34 am
yeah bill… he does look a bit out of his depth and deer-in-the-headlights-ish…
but as nortie says… will most probably stick with a winning lineup…
agree stian may be worth a shot…
personally i wouldn’t rest any of the quicks… think we need to show them respect and throw our best at them and drive the advantage home…
5 Jan 2013, 09:34 am
@Gumboots-21262:
Pakistan is a very talented side; over the years consistently more talented than India & Sri Lanka, especially in the fast & fast-medium bowler areas.
But yes, Pakistan is unpredictable. & I always have a nagging feeling that match fixing may have something to do with that.
5 Jan 2013, 09:41 am
sadly angostura… i agree with you… I think match fixing still exists in cricket…
i would seriously consider putting all players through the lie detector test as suggested by tony greig… and then have random testing as they do with drugs in others sports…
only the guilty would object and the innocent should welcome the chance to clear their names…
5 Jan 2013, 09:43 am
@Angostura-21266:
Your feeling is probably right… Pakistan produce really talented players but I don’t think the Pakistani Cricket Union take care of them properly…
5 Jan 2013, 09:47 am
@ufo-21265:
Stian is very close to selection… Dean has been given the chances but looks out of place. Not one of his shots were convincing… Maybe one more chance… I would rotate the quickies – you don’t need any injuries, especially with the ****’s on the way…
5 Jan 2013, 09:51 am
@Gumboots-21261:
re: “It doesn’t take long to figure out if someone could make it in the big time.”
Not always.
The Great Jacques Kallis scored 1 & 7 in his first two Test innings, & was a disappointingly slow starter at International level. Ditto for Hashim Amla. I once did an analysis of the relative batting performance of Kallis v Amla at a certain identical point in their careers – can’t remember what point it was, maybe after 10 Tests, or 2 years or something similar. That was because all & sundry at another site then wanted Amla dropped (early on in his career). I said hokaai, & showed that at that same point of their respective Test batting careers, Amla was actually performing better than Kallis. And look where Amla’s today!
However, I agree, Elgar is not at all convincing – but he deserves at least another chance, especially against NZ, & with JP out injured – JP will surely fill Elgar’s position once over his injury & fit again!
I think Big Vince may be rested in favour of Rory…
BTW, St George’s Park is not a good venue for the Proteas
5 Jan 2013, 09:57 am
@Angostura-21270:
The difference was Kallis looked like a batsman when he started playing. He showed class even though he didn’t score hugely. The difference he was a quality bowler too. Amla on the other had an unusual backlift – towards point. He worked on it though and is now not so pronounced. He is cashing in for sure. JP will come into Elgar’s place without doubt – also bowls a few offies… Elgar also bowls a bit…
5 Jan 2013, 09:58 am
yeah bill… while i do see the sense in that… i worry that new zealand could bat well in pe and leave our bowlers frustrated… could then have pakistan believing they can see chinks in our armour and could roll us…
pakistan are a different story… i’d rather face them with them believing we are in awesome form and they have a huge battle on their hands… so i’d rather build on and consolidate the dominance being established by playing our best team against new zealand in the second test…
5 Jan 2013, 10:01 am
@ufo-21272:
I’m looking forward to seeing Mohammad Irfan – he is over seven foot and bowls really quickly… Junaid Khan also going to be a handful.. We need to look after our bowlers… Don’t want injuries now…
5 Jan 2013, 10:17 am
yeah bill… that’s possibly a sensible thing to do…
i’m just not comfortable with deciding that a team is so weak we can rest some of our top players… seems when we are expected to win easily in any sport we struggle… i’ve never liked it… there’s always an air of arrogance attached to it no matter how it is spun… i believe we should always pick our strongest team… barring injury…
last thing we need is for a drawn test or even a win by new zealand… rather a 2 nil series than a 1 nil or 1-1 series…
we haven’t won as many home test series as we should have… so i would go for the kill in pe… good enough is never enough for me… in their dominant years australia always played their best possible combo at the time… which is why they dominated so thoroughly for so long…
if we rest players when we think it’s in the bag the chances of an upset increase and we will never build the dominance smith and co speak of and want…
and let’s be honest… our bowlers hardly had a strenuous time in cape town… so shouldn’t be at all fatigued… and if they did repeat the performance then they’d have given themselves a rest of nearly a full test’s play anyway…
just my opinion anyway… and i don’t think any of them take it very seriously…
yeah… pakistan will be a handful… and irfan is gonna be great to see in action against us…
5 Jan 2013, 10:19 am
sorry.. really slow on mobile..
and have stuff to do so will catch up later…
cheers bill, nortie, stormer, angostura…
have a great day…!
5 Jan 2013, 10:23 am
@ufo-21274:
We should beat this NZ side 9 times out of 10. It would be a good time to take a look at emerging talent without major disruptions to the team. Vern is not 100% fit yet… Like Angostura mentioned maybe give him a rest…
5 Jan 2013, 10:26 am
Whilst I said that the Proteas should retain an unbeaten team for the next test, Elgar sure as hell knows that he has to perform. At this level there is always someone else that wants your place. Faf had to be be patient and he has grabbed the opportunity with both hands. Elgar has got one more shot at it – he was understandably nervous coming off a pair, You just have to ask Rob Quiney that, The aussie selectors weren’t as generous.
@Angostura-21270:
That comparison was my reasoning for retaining Elgar, But he does need runs in the next test if he wants to play against Pakistan.
5 Jan 2013, 10:26 am
@ufo-21275:
Cheers mate… watching Big Bash while blogging.
Went to Supersport Park yesterday to watch a bit of Titans vs Warriors… Gqamane looks like a real talent and will be watching him with interest…
5 Jan 2013, 10:30 am
@ufo-21274:
Right now the Proteas are doing the correct thing and introducing emerging talent in the twenty/20 format.
Test cricket is test cricket and where all players aspire to play. So you don’t chop and change too much unless a certain player is battling.
5 Jan 2013, 11:00 am
@Angostura-21266: @ufo-21267: Make that three of us…sadly my great love for the game worldwide has been consistently waning since 2000 when this ugly blister first came to light.
In fact it’s more than likely far worse than a blister now…
5 Jan 2013, 12:44 pm
@Gumboots-21278: hi bill…a the best for the year…
ayabulela has been getting good reviews from the Warriors development coaches, one to watch indeed.
5 Jan 2013, 14:17 pm
@Transformation-21281:
Same to you buddy! I really enjoyed his knock yesterday. Looks confident and talented indeed…
I see Vernon’s injury is still a concern. Time to rest him for the Pakistani’s!
5 Jan 2013, 14:30 pm
@Transformation-21281:
I like the look of Gqamane.
Has a similar action to Malcolm Marshall and can bat.
Really hope the Warriors look after him, not like they did with Parnell who has clearly lost his mojo in recent times.
5 Jan 2013, 14:38 pm
@Jeraldjay-21283:
Yes he has a nice bowling action and looked good batting yesterday…

In Reversal, Armstrong Is Said to Weigh Admitting Drug Use
Lance Armstrong, who this fall was stripped of his seven Tour de France titles for doping and barred for life from competing in all Olympic sports, has told associates and antidoping officials that he is considering publicly admitting that he used banned performance-enhancing drugs and blood transfusions during his cycling career, according to several people with direct knowledge of the situation. He would do this, the people said, because he wants to persuade antidoping officials to restore his eligibility so he can resume his athletic career.

Heart of Darkness in it though.Even characters names.But thanks
5 Jan 2013, 16:15 pm
Eventually, a racial comparison of Kallis and Amla where obviously the clumsy cricketer is the “Dark” one.
I wonder what Boycott or Richards or Gavaskar or Tendulkar will say about such non-expert comment and conclusion?
5 Jan 2013, 16:37 pm
Skittle sticks is for the f’ng birds man which moron even vaguely considers this uninspired load of boring garbage as something to get remotely interested or exited about let alone waste some valuable cerebral concocted concerns regarding who the hell did or didn’t do whatsoever or whether whenever? Most uninspired uneventful load of codswallop ever devised by man.

OK, my turn now I guess.
Tick, scoreboard, tick.
5 Jan 2013, 20:06 pm
My turn !!!!
The “Good Pirate” himself, Captain Paul Watson – or should we say Admiral? – tells it like it is, no sugarcoating or apologies needed. Excerpts from a 2003 “Bite Back” interview:
“…put away the tired rhetoric about social justice. All people are the same. The poor are simply wannabe rich people. The oppressed are wannabe oppressors. People share the same vices and virtues regardless of class, color, *** or religion. When the holier-than-thou types fight each other, it is a distraction and changes nothing. Whites, Blacks, Indians, Asians, etc., are all the same—we are a bunch of self-centered, conceited naked apes, all divine legends in our own mind, and confused in our pathetic little primate brains about what this world is all about.
Yes, I know, there are those reading this in violent disagreement with what I have said. You are entitled to believe whatever you wish but don’t expect everyone to swallow the same horseshit. The sooner people begin to think as individuals and stop following the anthropocentric Pied Piper, the better off this world will be.”

Hi Tree – I’ve had a fairly quiet evening: only a few drinks – need to get into the “working mood” slowly but surely and I have to assist the wife in losing some weight !!
I even went for a walk with her this morning: I did the same during the previous few weeks as well (when she was upto it)
5 Jan 2013, 20:39 pm
Tree, the thread took a “knock” with the horrible deaths of Burry Stander and John Commins – it was more or less on the time of no 20 000 !
