Hore set for hefty ban
26 Nov 2012
New Zealand hooker Andrew Hore has been cited for an off-the-ball incident which subsequently hospitalised Wales lock Bradley Davies.
Hore hit Davies off the ball during the initial stages of last Saturday’s Test in Cardiff. The incident was missed by matchday officials, but Hore has now been cited and looks likely to receive a lengthy suspension.
The time and date of the hearing, before the IRB’s appointed independent judicial officer, have yet to be fixed.
All Blacks coach Steve Hansen expects the hooker to be sidelined for some time. Hansen did not say as much, but has already called for a replacement ahead of the coming Test against England.
Dane Coles is expected to start at Twickenham.

morning Nortie,
is Sias the starting 10?

@nortierd-21649:
from memory i think the force and rebels only won 1 and 3 games respectively in their first year in super rugby. i honestly do not expect the kings to upset the apple cart this season but if they do win then yes, its probably going to be an ozzie side.

the absurdity of modern economics and we play along, like fools:
Will $1trillion coin fix US debt crisis? Government may mint platinum currency to pay to itself
Politicians are considering minting a $1trillion coin
It would then be paid into the Treasury’s own account
Plan is to help cancel some of US’s $16.4trillion debt
American politicians are considering creating a $1trillion platinum coin which the US Treasury would pay to itself with the aim of reducing the country’s monumental debt.
Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner has the authority to mint platinum coins in the denomination of his choosing, and experts say the idea is being taken seriously in Washington.
The proposal would involve the Treasury minting the coin and depositing it into its own account at the Federal Reserve, allowing the government to write down or cancel $1trillion of its $16.4trillion debt.
The idea was first raised last year and is gaining momentum.
A formal petition has been started asking the White House to take the measure to avoid another high-stakes ‘fiscal cliff’ battle to raise the debt ceiling.
Economist and Nobel prizewinner Paul Krugman, one of those backing the idea, said the time had come to use any economic tools available to the Government.
Writing in his blog on the New York Times website, Mr Krugman said: ‘This is all a gimmick – but since the debt ceiling itself is crazy, allowing Congress to tell the President to spend money then tell him that he can’t raise the money he’s supposed to spend, there’s a pretty good case for using whatever gimmicks come to hand.’

@i_love_u_bakkiesbotha-21652:
Could be. The only other regular flyhalf in their team is Kyle Godwin who is still very inexperienced. They are probably going to be the weakest Aussie team this year- its basically impossible to replace players like Pocock and Sharpe – their best “newbies” are probably Sias, Hayward (ex Hurricane) and Mathewson (ex- AB).
They should still be too strong for the Kings and most likely the Cheetahs though.
8 Jan 2013, 10:37 am
@Robzim-21656:
yes ok, thanks.
i see they’ve also recruited Norton-Knight who never made it at the brumbies or waratahs, flyhalf if i recall..?..
8 Jan 2013, 10:38 am
On the issue of cheating in sport, the Liverpool striker Luis Suaraz is again taking flack in the British Press, this time for ending the dreams of minor league team Mansfield Town by scoring a “hand assisted goal” in Sundays FA Cup match.
Despite the officials ruling it an “accidental handball” accusations such as “Cheat”, “Caught red handed again” and “Suarez stole our FA cup glory” are now laid at his feet.
What was he suppose to do? Run to the referee and tell him that he does not want the goal to be allowed?
It’s a bit like expecting a rugby player who just scored to ask a ref to disallow the try as he is of the opinion there was a forward pass leading up to the try.
8 Jan 2013, 10:50 am
@Robzim-21658:
i find him disgusting and repugnant.
exemplifies everything i dont like bout the game.
8 Jan 2013, 10:50 am
@i_love_u_bakkiesbotha-21657:
Norton-Knight is more a utility player- nice to have on the bench.
8 Jan 2013, 10:54 am
@i_love_u_bakkiesbotha-21652:
Hi Bakkies.
Hope so, then the Kings will definitely take them.
Nice if you can afford to give away penalties smack bang in front and still get away without conceding points.
8 Jan 2013, 10:54 am
@i_love_u_bakkiesbotha-21659:
In terms of quality he is one of the top players in the world today–together with Van Persie he is the top striker in British football at the moment. Some experts also compare him favourably with Messi and Cristiano Ronalda.
But he always seems to be in trouble. Not always his own fault, but mostly…..
8 Jan 2013, 10:57 am
@i_love_u_bakkiesbotha-21653:
No one will expect them to set the world alight, but until they play we can’t really know what to expect.
Some sides might decide to rest their big name players against them and it might backfire on them
8 Jan 2013, 10:57 am
@nortierd-21661:
while it would be nice if the Kings could take some points off the anzacs, i jst dont see it happening.
8 Jan 2013, 11:01 am
@nortierd-21663:
yes, maybe.
for me the only likely success for the Kings would be if they get more bums on seats than the lions did. if they fail there too then it really is a set back.
8 Jan 2013, 11:05 am
FucktheKings… Fullstop.
8 Jan 2013, 11:07 am
@i_love_u_bakkiesbotha-21665:
I think their main focus will be to firstly end 4 th in our conference and secondly to play together long enough to win the relegation match should they end 5th.
They will have continuity and the Lions might be less prepared.
8 Jan 2013, 11:12 am
@Robzim-21662:
well he certianly wont be winning me over.
@Heavens Game-21666:
hehehe
whats the point of such an approach.
the Kings are here now so get on with it.
a head in the sand is never a good look, will you just ignore their existence?
8 Jan 2013, 11:14 am
@i_love_u_bakkiesbotha-21668: No point… No approach… No relevance… At all
Appropriate… For the Kings.
Fuckem

Nothing new there.
How else can we explain Keo’s pet leprechaun?
8 Jan 2013, 11:19 am
@nortierd-21667:
beat the cheetahs? not gonna happen with SmIth, Brussow, Coenie, Goosen et al back.
this is the lions fixtures for the year up until the promo/relegation matches and quite frankly some of them look very exciting and should keep them fit and competitive up to the time of the playoffs:
January 19 – Russia – Coca-Cola Park
January 23 – Cheetahs – Coca-Cola Park
February 2 – Bulls – Orlando Stadium
February 9 – Kings – Coca-Cola Park
February 23 – Namibia – Windhoek, Namibia
March 16 – Mont de Marsan – Coca-Cola Park
April 13 – US Invitational – Irvine, California
April 20 – US Invitational – Vancouver
April 27 – Chicago Lions – Chicago
May 11 – Agen – Coca-Cola Park
June 1 – Samoa – Coca-Cola Park
June 8 – French Barbarians – Coca-Cola Park
June 15 – Stormers – Coca-Cola Park
June 21 – Sharks – Coca-Cola Park
July 12 – Montpellier – Coca-Cola Park
July 20 – Grenoble – Coca-Cola Park
July 27 Promotion Relegation
August 3 Promotion Relegation
i expect the lions to win back their place in super rugby for next season.
8 Jan 2013, 11:27 am
@i_love_u_bakkiesbotha-21671:
Odds are very strong they will be relegated, but, the Cheetahs have never covered themselves in glory and also suck big time in the Superrugby.
Pox one or two big matches en dan val hulle holle weer uit.
Not so much about the opposition and matches the Lions will be playing, but more about how their side will look and whether they can perform.
8 Jan 2013, 11:28 am
@gunther-21670:
hehehe forgetting about Capo for a moment, its unnerving to read this sort of stuff in a foreign paper though and is a terrible story too.
how does one even begin to address this sort of thing though?
a pregnant person who would intentionally drink battery acid in order to give birth to a memtally retarded child so that she can qualify for state benefits..?.
surely you should/could be jailed for that?
8 Jan 2013, 11:31 am
@Heavens Game-21669:
alright then, i guess you will take much comfort in the many beatdowns they will receive.
8 Jan 2013, 11:33 am
@i_love_u_bakkiesbotha-21673:
It’s horrific.
8 Jan 2013, 11:36 am
@Heavens Game-21651: Hope you are
well.Was the roonek cemetery SPEARMANS?
8 Jan 2013, 11:43 am
@nortierd-21672:
well i just dont see the Cheetahs losing either of their two matches against them. the same team that put 53 points on them minus juan smith, coenie, brussow and goosen.
cheetahs managed five wins last season one of which was against the lions so i expect them to do about as good this season plus the bonus kings points.
8 Jan 2013, 11:48 am
@i_love_u_bakkiesbotha-21677:
Different side for the Kings too that played in that game.
But you are probably right.
8 Jan 2013, 11:51 am
@gunther-21675:
yes, it really is.
in Capo’s case i think it was more a question of being starved of love and attention as a child. neglect and that sort of thing… not being educated in how to behave properly and so on.
that and maybe some nutritional deficiencies in his diet.

How can we allow an apartheid mass murderer like Willie Basson at the helm of CSA?His close relationship with the previous murderous apartheid government should have immediately disqualified him from any top post at CSA.With that not happening it’s safe to say that a racist white-boys club existed within CSA at that time.Numerous efforts were made to get rid of him,but without success.Why?The powerful white lobby within CSA protecting him?Definitely I guess..This situation will change in the following few weeks.Willie Basson will go as a matter of principle.Who do we thank for this?If it was not for great cricketing men like Arendse,Magiet,Christiansen etc etc Basson and his cohorts would not have been exposed.The liars on keo have also been exposed .It seems they can’t make up there mind who Arendse is.At first Pedigree wailed against his so-called corrupt nature and now we have cunther mentioning abusive phone calls.They are more than happy to follow a man who had a close involvement with the illegal biological program of the apartheid era nationalist government.Why?Is it because he protects their white cricket interests?Christian is correct when he says that these white-boys club at CSA fears Arendse.Arendse represents true change.Basson and his mates as well as liars like pedigree,cunther etc etc wanted to keep Arendse out for that exact reason,but eventually they will fail.At the end of the day WC cricket will become the blueprint for CSA.Nobody can stop the process.Deal with it.

Cape Town – Almost a year after retired judge Chris Nicholson made recommendations on the make-up of Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) board, a meeting on Wednesday should finally determine its structure.
“We’ve compromised from our initial Nicholson Commission recommendations – the board will be less independent – as you have to accommodate both schools of thought and move in the right direction,” said acting CEO Jacques Faul in Cape Town on Tuesday.
The commission, appointed by sports minister Fikile Mbalula in 2011, to investigate CSA’s financial wrongdoings under former CEO Gerald Majola, recommended considerably downsizing the 22-member board and include a majority membership of independent, professionally-skilled directors.
The SA Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) held a strong view that the chairperson should be non-independent whereas the initial recommendation was that the chairperson be independent.
“We’ve finally agreed on the split between the non-independent and independent directors and now we need to agree on the chairperson. Going forward somebody has to compromise,” Faul said, hoping for a final decision to be made at Wednesday’s meeting.
“For the next 18 months, the governing structure will look different from the one before and that is still a big step in right direction.”
Faul said with such vast amounts of money involved, sponsors and the large corporates expected more professional structures to be in place.
“You need independents in sport now that it’s become such a big business,” he said.
“Maybe whilst we may have a hybrid between the old way and a total independent board in 2013, this is the direction sport will be going in, in the future.”
The dispute over the chairperson arose after the former CSA president Norman Arendse was nominated for the post but because of his former involvement with cricket, he was turned down.
Having the full backing of SASCOC, he took the matter to arbitration and won his case.
“We’ve got to respect the arbitration because you don’t go through the process and then nullify the decision,” said Faul.
“We’ll honour the findings and, like all the other directors, Arendse still needs to be voted in by the Members’ Forum.
“He could still become the chairperson should the board choose to go in that direction.”
Faul admitted he and acting CSA president Willie Basson had made a few mistakes but had worked hard over the past 12 months and always had the best interests of cricket at heart.
“We could have done it better and sat down with SASCOC more and possibly worked more closely with them but, be that as it may, come 2013 we will have a new governing structure and it will have a strong independent component,” he said.
“Governing structures will evolve to make themselves more credible and more respectable and it will be interesting to see in which direction we go.”
Basson’s tenure was set to end at next month’s Annual General Meeting – postponed several times until the board structure could be agreed upon – but there had been several attempts to get rid of him sooner by self-serving candidates jockeying for his position as president.
“We have to recognise Willie’s role over the last year in the restructuring of the board,” said Faul.
“He has worked harder than anyone to get the process going. Unfairly, he has been criticised about things non-related to our process but he has put in so much effort and has been the driving force behind it all.”
After offering to resign, Basson, at this stage, would still be acting president until February 2 when a new chairperson is appointed at the AGM – unless he is asked to resign at Wednesday’s meeting for his prior involvement with the pre-1994 government.
Faul admitted it had been a tough year for him as acting CEO and was still not 100 percent decided on whether he would reapply for his job.
“CSA will advertise this position – which is the right thing to do – and I need to make a decision on whether or not I will apply for it,” he said.
“I haven’t made up my mind and the next couple of weeks will be very important to see if I can still play a role going forward and if I can still make a contribution.”

@Robzim-21658: Bryan Habana lost the ball while scoring a try against the Force last year, got up & pointed to the heavens! no, he never told the ref not to award the try.
Morne Steyn knocked the ball COLD vs the Brumbies at Loftus, Asst Ref Lourens van der Merwe waived play on as CJ Stander picked up the loose ball & ran while Brumbies players stood still looking at Marius Jonker!
the Bulls won their 1st super rugby title off the back off a knock-on but the so-called God-fearing players never alerted referee steve walsh, they carried on playing/cheating & won.
repugnant much?!

Seems the W hore got a nasty shot of adrenaline, so if some one has a different take on something the immediate call is they are racist.
Very weak argument and credibility is lost. One lot saying this and another lot saying that, so then the truth must be somewhere in the middle.

Dr Willie Basson is known as “Mr Transformation” in SA sport. Now his involvement in the chemical warfare programme of the apartheid regime has led to calls for him to step down.
In 1981, Basson was one of the first scientists to be recruited by Dr Wouter Basson (no relation to Willie Basson), known as “Dr Death”, for Project Coast, a chemical warfare facility that later turned out to be one of the apartheid government’s many tools to oppress black South Africans.
While some colleagues and officials have expressed shock at the news that Basson headed the chemical warfare machinery, he himself says he was only involved in the initial stages and had been unaware of the real nature of the project.
Western Province Cricket president, Beresford Williams, said Basson, who did not appear before the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), was not pardoned for his involvement in the chemical weapons programme. “He should do the honourable thing and move away from the sport,” Williams said.
“Had we known before, certainly the Western Province Cricket Association would not have been party to Basson’s appointment at any level of administration. Based on his alleged past actions, how do we know if he’s part of the reason behind the lack of transformation in the sport?”
Basson said no offensive work was done in the two years he spent working for Project Coast. “I was a professor at the time and had done some research on the subject so I was approached to use my research to start a chemical warfare facility.”
Willie Basson said when he accepted the proposal, he was under the impression that the project was about defence work only.
“I started getting concerned so I did my work, which was mostly paperwork, and then I left after two years. The work there continued for many years after that. In that time there were always rumours about what was going on. When it all finally came out, I was disturbed, but I had no problem about my involvement defensive research,” he said.
Basson’s CV could not be obtained through the CSA, and eventually Basson himself was approached on Monday. He eventually submitted a copy to The New Age on Tuesday.
In it the only mention of Project Coast is: “Consultant and participant in strategic chemical/biological warfare defensive research programmes.”
Evidence before the TRC revealed that this project’s mission was, among others, to create a chemical substance to decrease black fertility and to stage cholera outbreaks in black communities.
A research report by Chandré Gould at the Centre for Conflict Resolution in 1998 stated that in 1981, Basson was approached by Wouter Basson, who is being investigated by the Health Professionals Council for his apartheid era activities, to initiate the chemical warfare facility. Project Coast had two companies: the biological facility, Roodeplaat Research Laboratories, and Delta G Scientific, which Willie Basson headed.
It is this link that has raised questions about his suitability to drive transformation in cricket.
However, a source who worked closely with Willie Basson for many years in cricket, said this part of his life was not known, especially in cricket circles.
“For ten years he’s been head of the transformation committee at CSA, now you wonder if he is the reason why cricket is not transforming,’ the source said.

Did Willie Basson actually think he could get away with this…..conveniently not mentioning his involvement in apartheid era atrocities ?I would love to see his cv that was admitted to CSA.

The million dollar question is was Nel better than Langeveldt at the time of selection and what was the team dynamic at that specific period (pre- Amla) which obviously influenced Charl’s stance on the matter.
But Arendse should have drawn the line between the administration of Cricket South Africa and player selection which should have been dealt with at a higher level.
8 Jan 2013, 12:33 pm
Why did Willie hide that important part of his career to all true and genuine SA’s?When people like Arendse,Magiet etc etc became aware of it,he tried to silence them.The game is up for Willie and his supporters like pedigree,cunther etc etc.
