Hore set for hefty ban

Hore set for hefty ban

New Zealand hooker Andrew Hore has been cited for an off-the-ball incident which subsequently hospitalised Wales lock Bradley Davies.

Hore hit Davies off the ball during the initial stages of last Saturday’s Test in Cardiff. The incident was missed by matchday officials, but Hore has now been cited and looks likely to receive a lengthy suspension.

The time and date of the hearing, before the IRB’s appointed independent judicial officer, have yet to be fixed.

All Blacks coach Steve Hansen expects the hooker to be sidelined for some time. Hansen did not say as much, but has already called for a replacement ahead of the coming Test against England.

Dane Coles is expected to start at Twickenham.

    well done dean…!!

    and good on biff for allowing elgar to go for it… in the context of his career… will be very good for him…

    Dean Elgar’s Test batting average at conclusion of:

    1 ininnigs – 0
    2 innings – 0
    3 innings – 7
    4 innings – 41.33

    Dean’s chart has gone parabolic!

    Well done!

    FWIW (at this early stage) his Test batting average is now better than that of Jacques Rudolph, JP Duminy & a regular erstwhile #6 such as Jonty Rhodes

    41.33 now.
    Let’s see how are bowlers do. I’m not expecting too many fireworks with Vern missing. He’s the perfect foil for Steyn.

    @ufo-23281: Whoosies? hahahaaaa

    Do any of you remember Denis Lindsay (my all-time favourite saffa wicketkeeper/batsman) facing a barrage of short-pitched deliveries (without any headgear protection other than a Springbok cap or a floppy hat) from that tall Aussie paceman, Dave Renneberg, & fearlessly hooking such from mostly in front of his face for a stream of demoralising sixes?

    Read this & then declare cricket to be a whoosie sport:

    “Lindsay, the man who ‘hooked’ the Aussies

    Lindsay, born in Benoni in 1939, rocketed to fame with his demolition of Australian fast bowler Dave Renneberg in a tour by Bobby Simpson’s Australians to SA in 1966-67.
    Lindsay made 606 runs in five Tests that summer, at an average of 86,57. His three centuries and two half-centuries brought to an adoring public a hook shot that is still talked about in cricket circles.
    His 182 at the Wanderers of which Wisden wrote, He let loose a flood of thrilling strokes without ever seeming to use other than the middle of the bat was instrumental in taking SA to their first series win over Australia.
    However, his hook shot got him into trouble against Renneberg in the Newlands Test, when he top-edged the ball and was hit right between the eyes. He fell to the ground unconscious, unaware that the ball had been caught off his head. When he regained consciousness he stood up to take guard, only to see the umpire holding up a finger to give him out….
    He was a cricketer who played in the true spirit of the game. He would hit all those sixes off Renneberg and afterwards they would have a beer together. I think the number of beers consumed depended on the number of sixes he had hit. Lindsay was a member of the junior South African team, the Fezelas, which toured England in 1961, from which several players went on to become Springboks. I think that was the beginning of the great era in South African cricket, said Van der Merwe. He recalled an occasion during the 1965 tour of England. We were playing Essex at Chelmsford and we needed 30 runs to win the game. He went in an over before lunch and hit five sixes and the game was over, just like that. We were very fortunate to have a wicketkeeper of his class to succeed the incumbent, Johnny Waite, at that time. Lindsay was first called up for the 1963-64 tour of Australia and New Zealand as understudy to Waite. He was still at his peak when SA were banished from world cricket in 1971. As a wicketkeeper, Lindsay took 57 catches and made two stumpings in 19 Tests and ended his Test career with an overall batting average of 37,66 an average regarded as exceptional for a wicketkeeper in that era.”

    so happy about this, for the sake of the game firstly and my enjoyment secondly:

    London – The powers of video referees in rugby are set to be extended as part of new protocols to be trialed globally by the International Rugby Board in 2013.

    The test match official, referred to as the TMO, will be able to advise the on-field referee about incidents of potential foul play and also review up to two phases of play before a try is scored.

    Currently, the TMO can be asked to rule only on incidents “in goal” – or over the tryline.

    The IRB said on Friday it has approved the trial of both extended protocols in international and domestic competition from the beginning of the next respective season in the northern and southern hemispheres.

    They could be ratified by the IRB council in May 2014.

    @i_love_u_bakkiesbotha-23292:
    Strongest Saffa team I’ve seen (when Philander in for Kleinveldt, & Duminy in for Elgar)
    &
    Weakest NZ team I’ve seen:
    so a bit of both imo (a mismatch)

    but the Black Caps are better than this (when Taylor, Vettori, Southee, Franklin & perhaps Ryder are available for selection & indeed selected)
