Hore set for hefty ban

Hore set for hefty ban

New Zealand hooker Andrew Hore has been cited for an off-the-ball incident which subsequently hospitalised Wales lock Bradley Davies.

Hore hit Davies off the ball during the initial stages of last Saturday’s Test in Cardiff. The incident was missed by matchday officials, but Hore has now been cited and looks likely to receive a lengthy suspension.

The time and date of the hearing, before the IRB’s appointed independent judicial officer, have yet to be fixed.

All Blacks coach Steve Hansen expects the hooker to be sidelined for some time. Hansen did not say as much, but has already called for a replacement ahead of the coming Test against England.

Dane Coles is expected to start at Twickenham.

Cape Town – South Africa captain AB de Villiers has been suspended for two ODIs while his players have been fined 100 percent of their match fees for maintaining a slow over-rate during their one-wicket defeat against New Zealand in the first ODI in Paarl on Saturday.

David Boon of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees imposed the suspension after the Proteas were ruled to be six overs short of their target at the end of the match when time allowances were taken into consideration.

De Villiers pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction so there was no need for a formal hearing.

In accordance with Article 2.5.2 and Appendix 2 of the ICC Code of Conduct (the “Code”), which deals with serious over-rate offences, the captain receives two suspension points while the players are fined 10-per-cent of their match fees for each of the first two overs short and 20-per-cent for every additional over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.

Rugby players at South African sports schools will be tested for steroids and other banned substances, it was reported on Sunday.

According to Rapport newspaper, 18 of 62 children independently tested in the past six months had positive results for drugs so dangerous they could lead to death.

It reported that schedule five anabolic steroids were easily obtainable on the internet, and that people were unaware of the legal implications and health hazards of using them.

The newspaper reported that the SA Institute for Drug Free Sport (Saids) had announced that more than 100 schools would test their pupils for drugs.

Paarl Gymnasium would send its entire under 19A group to be tested for doping, even though it had not had problems with steroids, its rugby head Deon Gerber told Rapport.

The Hawks national spokesman Captain Paul Ramaloko told the newspaper they were aware of the problem

Guildford steps down amid misconduct probe

    ——————————————————————————–

    20 January 2013, 11:52

Canterbury Crusaders winger Zac Guildford has voluntarily stood down from the franchise following his involvement in a late-night incident in Christchurch last weekend, the New Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU) said on Sunday.

The 23-year-old with well-documented alcohol problems has admitted his involvement in the incident after a private house party which is now being investigated by his team and the NZRU.

“We and the Crusaders were very disappointed to learn of this incident. As a result, the NZRU has initiated misconduct proceedings against Zac,” NZRU chief executive Steve Tew said in a statement.

“We will be meeting with Zac and his representative in the following week to discuss the matter, and next steps.

“As his employer, we want to ensure that the process respects Zac’s right to a fair hearing so we do not wish to comment further at this stage,” Tew added.

The 10-test All Black is hardly new to misconduct probes and was banned for four games and ordered to undergo alcohol counselling after a naked, drunken rampage in the Cook Islands in November 2011.

Guildford had previously apologised for his “excessive drinking” and narrowly escaped a playing ban at the 2011 World Cup after an alcohol-related incident prior to the tournament

You went to bed too early last night. Now the pressure is on the Proteas who have to win both remaining matches. There is no room for error in only a 3 ODI series. Even more so now that AB has been suspended for 2 matches.

    @wnbb-26125:
Why should I have something personal against Jennings? AS I said earlier, my comment about his keeping weakness didn’t negate his criticism about de Kock.
As for my remark regarding Rory, you certainly had to do some mental contortions to interpret them as being gleeful or racist. How you managed to convert a sympathetic observation into one of gloating only your therapist would know.

  • 26134.gunther: Reply to this comment

Thami is undoubtedly the best glove man in SA and an inderrated batsman in recent tears. he should definitely be keeping for the tests. Put him in there instead of Elgar.

That said he’s not the answer in the shorter formats where de Kock looks to have the edge as a keeper batsman.

Sure his keeping needs work but so did Boucher’s when he started his international career and look how he finished up.

Great to see that Boucher has been working hard with him.

Young guys party….if he didn’t hurt anyone what has it to do with his rugby playing abilities. Everything is becoming so sterile.

I know most of you will disagree with me on this and say the players are supposed to be role models blahblahblah. I don’t agree, they are there to play rugby. My opinion.

The responsibility of these players are huge at a very young age nowadays.
When we were between 19 and 24 we were in our prime jolling age, they don’t have that luxury. Yes they are being paid millions, but they are also losing out a lot.
A kid like Pollard will only start having a real life when he retires, and he was contracted at 16. Financially he will be set for life, but in a way I feel sorry for him with what he will be losing out on.

Just as Jennings worked with Boucher on and off during his career. Thami is a good keeper but he is also 32. Maybe let Thami do the job at test level but then he will have to be able to hold down that no 7 batting spot. Not ideal when you’ve got Elgar scoring a ton, JP coming back in a month or two.

De Kock can slot into the international frame in the shortened versions relieving AB of keeping duties. AB’s ultimate goal, I reckon, is to take over Jake’s no.4 slot when he eventually calls it a day.
