Hore set for hefty ban
26 Nov 2012
New Zealand hooker Andrew Hore has been cited for an off-the-ball incident which subsequently hospitalised Wales lock Bradley Davies.
Hore hit Davies off the ball during the initial stages of last Saturday’s Test in Cardiff. The incident was missed by matchday officials, but Hore has now been cited and looks likely to receive a lengthy suspension.
The time and date of the hearing, before the IRB’s appointed independent judicial officer, have yet to be fixed.
All Blacks coach Steve Hansen expects the hooker to be sidelined for some time. Hansen did not say as much, but has already called for a replacement ahead of the coming Test against England.
Dane Coles is expected to start at Twickenham.

And the arrogancy of the present lot in government is really out of this world. Using state companies to prop up an unsustainable newspaper.
Nothing has change but the face of the corruption. Very sad.

It hit me right between the eyes about an hour ago when I was at Panarottis. I have to write a new song. I know I may be a bit rusty and my last song didn’t hit no. 1 mainly because of some guppies not appreciating the genious of “Not Quite”
Now my new song may just equal those great songs “Die Rooi Leeu” and “Wild Lions” …. It is going to be released when super rugby starts. To wet your appetite I can reveal that there will be rhymes arond Kings and Queens and screams … gaping and raping tooo oooooh it is going to be on!

Actually, Luyt wasn’t such a great businessman if you look at his
businesses. His fertilizer firm went under, as did his flirtation with beer (Luyt Laager).

We are all human beings who are imperfect trying hard to be. LOL
On a serious note, Luyt was a great businessman and rugby administrator for sure. But his arrogancy and disrespect was awful. I will never forget his speech when the world cup was held here in 1995. The disrepect towards the All black was so tasteless and lacked class. It certainly was not New Zealand’s fault that South Africa believed in separate divelopment then, to put it mildly, and was isolated.

One lesser known fact about the Citizen is that a number of journalists who joined them had also been BOSS spies on their previous papers.

1 Feb 2013, 20:04 pm
Louis Luyt RIP
He rode roughshod over plenty of people and didn’t suffer fools gladly. And gold watch incident and claims of 1987 and 1991 glory were pathetic.
But at least he left Lions rugby on a sound financial footing. It took the next administration less than 10 years to stuff it up.
1 Feb 2013, 20:04 pm
@David-27908:
The Luyt lager thing was very interesting SAB put him out of business.
A classic case of monopolistic behaviour.
SAB execs used to boast about his business as a case study at UCT showing how they drove competitors to the wall.

Remember Cliff Saunders on SABC? Who do you think is the current one on SABC? I think during Mbeki’s era there was the guy with a doctorate from Bulgaria, Snuki Zikalala.
The more things change, the more they stay the same!!

Another lesser known fact about Louis Luyt was that he was an internationally renowned arbitration lawyer. That’s why the threat of taking Mandela to court didn’t phase him – although he regretted doing it later.

Was listening to Brian van Rooyen on 702 this afternoon. He, you would have thought would be bitter towards him, had a lot of good things to say about him.
Shakespears’ ” the evil that man do live after them and the good is often interred with their bones” is not always true.

Sittin’ in a sleazy snack-bar
Suckin’, sickly sausage rolls
Slippin’ down slowly, slippin’ down sideways
Think I’ll sign off the dole
Twenty eight thousand is all mine, all mine
Twenty eight thousand is all mine
Twenty eight thousand is all mine, all mine
Twenty eight thousand is all mine
Could a copper catch a crooked coffin maker
Could a copper comprehend
That a crooked coffin maker is just an undertaker
Who undertakes to be a friend?
Twenty eight thousand is all mine, all mine
Twenty eight thousand is all mine
Twenty eight thousand is all mine, all mine
Twenty eight thousand is all mine
Tell it to tomorrow, today will take it’s time
To tell you what tonight will bring
Presently we’ll have a pint or two together
Everybody do their thing
We can swing together, we can have a wee wee
We can have a wet on the wall
If someone slips a whisper that its simple sister
Slapped them down and slavered on their smalls
Twenty eight thousand is all mine, all mine
Twenty eight thousand is all mine
Twenty eight thousand is all mine, all mine
Twenty eight thousand is all mine

Remember the lady journalist who was caught in Angola or Zambia who was exposed asa spy for the the then government. She was controlled by former Nusas president who turned out to be a gorvenment spy as well. Someone by the name of Williamson or Williams. She had an English surname. I cannot recall her. Did she work for the Citizen or Sunday times?
1 Feb 2013, 20:31 pm
@Peter Mkata-27928:
Craig Williamson.
She moved from the Sunday Times to the Citizen. Most journalists always suspected her.
1 Feb 2013, 20:31 pm
@Peter Mkata-27923: Power,money
and Labat should have dispelled a lot of that bitterness.
Before I sound one sided,rumours of Nats shipping gold to
South America very strong..Agliotti senior who owned a clay quarry
also tainted
David,I do the going through the alphabet thing until I have the name.Good night all.

I don’t think Williamson was ever NUSAS president.

Sure. I stand to be corrected. He tried to infiltrate it but failed as people were suspicious of him.@David-27929:
Can you recall her name?
1 Feb 2013, 20:42 pm
@ryecatcher-27932:
Can you believe it? I think she called him blow torch eyes. I believe she fell on hard times.
I liked her collumn, great writing style.
1 Feb 2013, 20:43 pm
@Peter Mkata-27933:
No, I can’t although she was an extremely well known political commentator on the Sunday Times.
@ryecatcher-27932:
Definitely not Allen. She was just a social columnist at the time.

The only rugby man (since Craven) who ever dared to stand up to Big Louis was Jannie Engelbracht (also a self made millionaire) . They had an almighty public spat when Luyt called the former Springbok great a “has been” and Engelbrecht called Luyt a “tyrant”. I think Engelbrecht won the battle (Luyt wanted to resign) but Luyt ecentually won the war when Steve Tshwete asked him to stay on and they eventually got rid of Engelbrecht.

That was in New Zealand when Ian Macintosh got his famous DCM – he still teases current Bok coaches about it to this day.
Ian Mac says:
There are only 2 types of Bok coaches:
1. Those that have been fired.
2. Those that are about to be fired.
1 Feb 2013, 20:59 pm
Luyt’s obituary to be published by fax?

ROBZIM.Luyt rebuked Emgelbrecht for tyring to sell cases of his wine

@I am a stormer-27940: Wasn’t it Edward Griffiths who got fired by fax?
1 Feb 2013, 21:10 pm
@victoriabok-27939:
Van Rooyen was totally corrupt. He manipulated the various sponsorships to give him a commission on the new ones.
1 Feb 2013, 21:12 pm
@ryecatcher-27942:
That was mentioned in Luyt’s autobiography – Jannie at times did treat the tour of NZ as a bit of a marketing exercise. He was just trying a bit of multi-tasking.
1 Feb 2013, 21:13 pm
@Robzim-27936: ” but Luyt
ecentually won the war when Steve Tshwete
asked him to stay on”
Xhamela killed us with keeping Luyt & lived to regret it when Luyt showed him the finger & refused for SARFU to be probed for mismanagement to the point that he claimed Mandela “didn’t apply his mind” when sanctioning the commission, very embraboer.
he basically p.issed on the gesture of Mandela advocating & unilaterally keeping the Springbok emblem.
1 Feb 2013, 21:13 pm
@BrumbiesBoy-27943:
That’s right.
And Ian Mac got the Don’t Come Monday – probably also by fax.

1 Feb 2013, 21:14 pm
@Robzim, yip “die groot leeu luyt ” was a tyrant nonetheless RIP. Btw i will never forget the tv images of an already ageing Mandela walking into court after being subpoenad by luyt. Luyt made himself “late”.
1 Feb 2013, 21:16 pm
@Transformation-27946:
Typical Luyt.
Make a decision and stuff the consequences – no matter who gets peed off.
