Bulls: Steyn’s staying

The Bulls have dismissed talk of Morne Steyn being linked to French club Stade Francais, saying he’s contracted until the end of 2013.

Reports on Tuesday revealed that Stade Francais had been in negotiations with the Springbok and Bulls flyhalf. According to Le Rugbynistere, officials from the French Top 14 club met with the player on the sidelines during the Springboks’ 16-15 win over England in London last Saturday.

With Steyn losing his starting place in the Bok team after a poor Test and Super Rugby season and Johan Goosen known to be Heyneke Meyer’s first-choice No 10, a move to France wouldn’t be a surprise.

However, the Bulls denied these rumours.

‘The rumours are purely speculation – Morne Steyn is contracted [with the Bulls] until end 2013,’ a Bulls spokesperson told keo.co.za.

Steyn confirmed with SA Rugby magazine earlier this year that he would only contemplate a move overseas at the end of his deal with the Bulls. He also added that his spot in the Bok flyhalf pecking order would be a factor in his decision.

The 28-year-old is set to start for the Pretoria franchise during Super Rugby next season.

I for one feel bad for him and if his form comes back should have another bash….I believe strongly in second chances specially considering that he has done well by us in the past
