Banned Timani to miss Cardiff clash

Wallabies lock Sitaleki Timani has been suspended for one match and will miss the Test against Wales.

Timani appeared before the IRB Judicial Officer, David Martin (Ireland), having been cited for striking an opponent in the match between Italy and Australia in Florence last Saturday.

Acknowledging the player’s admission of having carried out the act of foul play, the judicial officer deemed the incident to be at the low end of the IRB’s table of offending and suspended the player for one week, having taken into account mitigating factors.

Timani is suspended until 2 December 2012 and has the right of appeal.

Meanwhile, an independent IRB-appointed Appeal Committee has partially upheld the appeal of Australian lock Rob Simmons, against the decision of an IRB-appointed Judicial Officer to suspend the player for eight weeks following his tip tackle in the match between France and Australia on 10 November.

The Appeal Committee found that the player had committed the act of foul play (and dismissed the player’s appeal on that point) but found that the player’s offending had merited a mid range entry point, rather than the top end entry point that the Judicial Officer had originally found.

After applying aggravating and mitigating factors, the Appeal Committee imposed a reduced sanction of five weeks. Therefore the player will be free to play from 4 February 2013.

Andrew Hore has been given a five-week ban for striking Bradley Davis with his arm, three of which will be pre-season.

    What a joke…

5 weeks for Hore seemed fair to me, don’t imagine the ABs will be appealing. On par with other suspensions like Tuilagi and Ashton. Don’t think it was 5x worse than Greyling’s offence.

The fact that 3 of those are pre-season is a bit silly but that’s the system. About time it gets fixed but we’ve been saying that for years
