Only success will save Dingo Deans
10 Jan 2013
Wallabies coach Robbie Deans will have to reapply for his position when his contract runs out at the end of the year.
This is according to new ARU chief executive Bill Pulver, who was appointed on Wednesday and will start his new job on 1 February.
Pulver said Deans was not under threat to keep his position for the remainder of his contract, but when asked if the New Zealander would have to reapply for the Wallabies coaching job if he wants to continue in it, Pulver said: ‘Yes.’
Asked if Deans revealed his ambitions when they met for the first time over breakfast this week, he added: ‘Absolutely. He is loving the role and he wants to push on for as long as he can.’
Deans is under pressure after the injury-plagued Wallabies dropped from second to third in the world rankings in 2012 and played a brand of rugby which delivered just 15 tries in 15 games.
Australia play 14 Tests this year, including three against the British & Irish Lions.

15 tries in 15 games?
Hmmmmmmmmmmm.
But not to worry, Dragon Clyde will sort out that little hiccup as soon as he gets his jersey back.

@nortierd-3: Yes, very much so I think.

@BrumbiesBoy-4:
Jake and Eddie Jones reunited leading the Wallabies.
I’d be slightly worried if I was HM or the AB’s.

jake was also told to reapply for the bok job & he threw a fit…

@Transformation-8: And quite rightly so to, Jake had just won a RWC and had more than proved himself IMO.
Deans claim to fame is one Tri-Nations; and that in a “watered-down” RWC year.

@nortierd-5:
I’d be laughing out loud.

@BrumbiesBoy-9: the applications had to be in before the RWC endd…lol

@Transformation-11: Yeah, with a cutoff date of 31 December 2007.
You know the point I’m trying to make, don’t pretend you don’t.

Deans must have leverage of some kind to keep his job for so long. Coaches were fired for much less in the past.

@BrumbiesBoy-9:
I think Deans being an All Black player, coaching and winning multiple super rugby trophies is enough to put him into the fame.
And remember, he has made SA his bitchaswell.

@Hurricane-14: Sure, no arguments there and respect for his past achievements.
But there just seems to be something badly wrong the last few years, wish I could put my finger on it.

The lions need to win this otherwise it could be the end for them. The stats could read 3 test wins in 12 starts.
Have your say
