Wales call up Saffa; Scots pick Kiwi
15 Jan 2013
Nelspruit-born eighthman Andries Pretorius has been included in Wales’ Six Nations squad and Scotland have picked Kiwi Sean Maitland.
Pretorius, 27 years old, became eligible for Test selection in December and his top form for Pro12 club the Cardiff Blues has been rewarded with an immediate call-up from interim coach Rob Howley.
Howley has picked four other uncapped players in Cardiff flank Josh Navidi, Ospreys wing Eli Walker, Ospreys lock James King (born in Australia) and Newport Gwent Dragons lock Andrew Coombs.
Maitland, a NZ Maori international, and a stand out for the Crusaders at wing and fullback in the last three seasons, arrived in Scotland last November. He qualifies because of ancestry.
Maitland is a cousin of Wallabies flyhalf Quade Cooper.
