Guildford back at the booze

Guildford back at the booze

Crusaders winger Zac Guildford is in trouble again …

The 23-year-old has not been shy of alcohol related issues in the past – he was banned for four games and ordered to undergo alcohol counselling after a naked, drunken rampage in the Cook Islands in November 2011 – and has now admitted his involvement in an incident that occurred after a private house party which is now being investigated by his team and the NZRU.

Guildford also had to apologise for his ‘excessive drinking’ and only narrowly escaped a playing ban at the 2011 World Cup.

He has voluntarily stood down from the franchise.

‘We and the Crusaders were very disappointed to learn of this incident. As a result, the NZRU has initiated misconduct proceedings against Zac,’ NZRU chief executive Steve Tew said in a statement.

‘We will be meeting with Zac and his representative in the following week to discuss the matter, and next steps,’ Tew added.

    Do not agree with giving him another chance.
    He was warned earlier. Like any job if you do not listen to the boss…you will get fired. Think about it…the Boss says do not do that again…. and you do it again. Would you expect to be sacked? I would.

    @munkiboi-48:

    that is hectic… and makes a criminal case out of it…

    but i still believe the kid needs support rather than being kicked to the curb…

    a few south african players have been guilty of public drug taking, assault and even murder but still enjoyed generous support from their unions and many keo posters…

    @Hurricane-52: Howdy Hurri. I always hold those who suffer the effects of substance abuse to a sightly different set of rules. The playing field isn’t level if one judges Zac in the same way one woud judge a fella who pitches up late for work 50 days in a row.

    As I say, that’s just me.

    His brother got convicted for the third time last year for drinking and driving, in NZ it takes about 7 to 9 DIC convictions before you get a custodial sentence, Zac can f uck up plenty more times before anything serious happens and he’ll have plenty of supporters all the way making excuses for him.

    @NZINCHINA-59: From what I’ve read, the police weren’t even involved. He told Blackadder on his own accord. So the worst that can happen to him is they rip up his contract and he goes to Europe to make his millions.

    The conspiracy theorist in me tells me nothing actually happened and it’s just a ruse to get out of his contract at the Crusaders and go home to play for the Chiefs. The optimist in me tells me he’s going to the Blues. Thank god he’s already been capped or he’d be a Wallaby in no time.
