Another Lion to roar for Stormers
25 Jan 2013
Lions hooker Martin Bezuidenhout has joined the Stormers on loan.
Stormers coach Allister Coetzee confirmed the transfer of Bezuidenhout from the Lions for the next two months because of injuries to two of the three Stormers squad hookers.
Coetzee paid tribute to the skills of Bezuidenhout and said he was satisfied Bezuidenhout, at 23 years old, was experienced enough. The Lions hooker came off the bench in the 2011 Currie Cup final and played Super Rugby for the Lions in 2012.
Bezuidenhout will play against the Cheetahs in the Stormers’ first warm-up match next weekend in Bloemfontein.
Coetzee earlier in the week dismissed reports of former Bok captain John Smit joining the Stormers from Saracens on a short-term loan and also said it was important to go outside of the region to get the necessary experience.
It is debatable whether Bezuidenhout has the kind of experience Coetzee spoke about and hookers within the region have every reason to feel aggrieved.
Smit would have been a very good addition under the circumstances and again I would dispute whether the top club hookers in the Western Cape region are inferior to Bezuidenhout.

@Wanderer-45:
Let me keep this short and sweet.
You are the worst. By far the worst team to ever play Super Rugby.
No one could be more deserving of relegation than the pussies of Joburg.

@wp_boytjie-52: and yet…….. your team stack 5 Lions in your setup.

@Tuna-53:
The fact that they are the worst performing team in super rugby history does not mean that they did not have good individuel players over the years.

@Robzim-55: No one is questioning the fact that they are the worst. How many times have Taute, Elton, Rhodes etc etc feel the wrath of some of your “intelligent” Stormers fan when they were losing in the S14. Now they good enough hey… not just good enough…. they will start.

I cannot speak for all the fans but I have always rated Taute, Cilliers and specially Elton. Not sure about Rhodes although he did impress during the last few CC matches, while I have no clue how good Bezuidenoudt is. The other Lions player who is coming to the Stormers is the SA unde 20 lock who must still prove himself in senior rugby but certainly seems like a prospect.
Anyway, its very sad to hear about Elton’s dad- the family must be devestated- good luck to them.

Lions r a **** team, they don’t deserve a super rugy spot, yes the Stormers hv signed some of your best players, face it – that’s what top teams do. Deal with it!

@Robzim-58: Derek Minnie is also good enough to be a Bok.

Well, if it was permanent hooker shortage or at least a long term injury I would also like to bring one of the local boys up. But if all goes well in a couple of months Liebenberg, Scarra and Fourie will all be fit.
So maybe it is not too bad if the young guys stay with their teams and grow there. A super rugby number 2 spot is not the best place to drop someone in if they are not quite ready yet.
