Du Preez steps in for Pollard

Dawie Theron has named his starting line-up for the SA U20′s last practice match against the University of Cape Town on Saturday.

The match against Ikeys, the last in a series of three such matches against Western Cape-based university sides, is scheduled to kick off at 4pm at Brookside in Claremont, Cape Town.

Of the 34 players that originally assembled in Stellenbosch last week, six have since left the camp for Super Rugby or Springbok Sevens duty.

Justin Geduld, Cheslin Kolbe and Seabelo Senatla were all selected for the Blitzbokke for the forthcoming Sevens World Series tournaments in Wellington and Las Vegas. The trio of Handré Pollard, Jan Serfontein and Jacques du Plessis returned to Pretoria on Wednesday after the Baby Boks’ clash with Maties to continue with the Bulls’ Super Rugby preparations.

Meanwhile, Johnny Kotze, the Maties centre who previously played for the SA Schools Academy side and was a member of last year’s SA U20 training group, was added to the current training squad and is on the reserves bench against UCT.

Dries Swanepoel (inside centre) has shrugged off the ankle niggle which kept him on the sideline against Maties. He will play at No 12 on Saturday.

With Pollard back in Pretoria, Robert du Preez gets a chance to start at flyhalf.

SA U20 training squad – 15 Tim Swiel, 14 Luther Obi, 13 Tyler Fisher, 12 Dries Swanepoel, 11 JP Lewis, 10 Robert du Preez, 9 Percy Williams, 8 Ruan Steenkamp, 7 Roelof Smit, 6 Albertus Smit, 5 Marvin Orie (c), 4 Irné Herbst, 3 Marné Coetzee, 2 Jacques du Toit, 1 Sti Sithole
All the remaining squad members will be on the reserves bench

    Lyk my die jong manne vorm n belangrike deel van die Bulle se voorbereiding en beplanning. Hopelike sal hulle ook baie kans kry. Ek dink ons toekoms lyk goed.

    What is the point of someone like Pollard going back to his province when he is not going to feature in super rugby this year? Surely he is better off with the Baby Boks.

    > Robert du Preez gets a chance to start

    Related to Robert du Preez the scrumhalf?

    @Stoetbul9-2: Pollard is going to fizzle away like so many hyped players before him. He oozes Lionel Cronje.

    That’s right boys your province needs you.

    @lepel-7:

    Don’t talk **** man. Pollard plays with plenty of confidence. Excellent all-rounder.

    Cronje never did anything to warrant his big reputation. Looks to have the skill-set but can’t control a game to save his life. Would be a better fullback.

    Timo Swiel is probably the most exciting flyhalf that is around,although i think he is better at fullback, he still ran circles around Pollard, do yourself a favour and watch his video on youtube,he is like a young Christian Cullen!

    Yakkety yak yak yak about all the fly halves we lost to mercenary profiteering professionalism

    Pollard snr bought all the blou bul bullshit that Heyneke Meyer sold him so he sold his soul

    Timo Swiel been shifted to fullback to accommodate Pollard now they’re waxing lyrical about him being the new Christian Cullen

    Meanwhile the real talent they let slip through their grimy fingers was the young

    @Jatman-10:

    Please pinpoint where he runs circles around Pollard?

    That being said, yes, he’s a very exciting fullback!

    Cont.

    the young JL Du Plessis

    Now the best solution is concentrate on developing young Jordaan into a game breaking pivot. The best little fishy du PlessIs swam upstream so now concentrate at developing second best

    Bulls will fck Pollards game up nicely they’ll try making him the next Morne Steyn
    Swiel is too erratic for FH and should stick at 15
    JL Du Plessis is the one that got away
    Young Jordaan is the one to develop as next promising 10
    I’m hoping Jantjies don’t fck WP Stormers game to hell.
    Katrakillis is no loss either.

    Hendrikp i meant it figuratively,but he did step pollard without him being touched and just watched as he got beaten!think it was at 4:20 or something in his clip

    @skopdiekan-14:

    It will be nearly impossible for Jantjes to fck the Stormers more than Grant has done over the last 5 years or so. Jantjes is arguably the best all round flyhalf in the WP since the days of Michael du Plessis and if he cannot unlock the potential of the backs there is no-body else in SA who will.

    I don’t worry too much about Pollard and du Plessis. Let they develop somewhere else, WP can always buy one of them back a a later stage if required.

    Du Plessis must in any event first prove himself at a higher level than normal school rugby- he has not even played Craven week so i do not understand why people are getting so excited about him.

    What “game” do the Stormers have to “fck up”?

    All they do is defend.

    @Liewe Luiperd-17:

    Their intention is to play in the Super rugby tournament like they played in the currie cup 2012.

    Do you remember all the great tries they scored in that tounament for example the one by Juan de Jongh that destroyed the hopes of thousands of Sharks fans and also broke the ego of Keegan Daniels?

    it was so schweet :)

    At least the Sharks understand that Currie Cup and Super rugby are very, very different things.

    That’s the problem with WP/Stormers. Too much hype, too much expectation (for a rather average team).

    Do you forget that the Stormers did not claim even a single 4 try bonus point in last year’s Super tournament? :-)

    As I said, all they do is defend. And fluke a try every now and again.

    More heartache for their expectant fans this year I see….. :-)

    That (2012) was then,this is now.
    Watch the Stormers moving on to another level this year.
    2012 was a practice year to get the basics right
    This year I expect the same solid defence but also tries aplenty specially now that jantjes is there to ignite the enormous attacking potential of the backs.
    2013 is the year of the stormer :)

    @Robzim-20: hehehehe. You chaps sing the same song every January. ;-) Good luck to your team this year.

    Thanks…same to your Sharkies.
    It’s now now or never- for both of our teams- about time that a SA coastal team win this damn thing.

    52 – 19 to the Baby Boks – not a good omen for UCT’s Varsity Cup campaign!

    @Robzim-20: @Liewe Luiperd-21: I do believe Robzim might have a point, if the stormers can play with the flair of the curry cup final,the additional strength and depth the lions on loan will bring and the maturing of the young guns. I do believe though that most stormer supporters are secretly sh*tting themselves with the Question ” was it a one off, one of those days where everything go right on the day or is this the new gospel” A bit like the english after their thrashing of the AB’s.

    @jet jungle-24: The burden on us Bulls are becoming too much, for carrying the flame of rugby light in Africa. You guys better step up this season (Stormers) As for the sharks same old, close but no cigar. (Hope Carlos can make it work for you) If the rest of SA are going to have to lapp up the histerics of the stormers supporters at least do it where it counts. That means a super rugby title.
