Jantjies to miss warm-up games
29 Jan 2013
Elton Jantjies has been given time off to deal with his father’s death, and will miss the Stormers’ two warm-up matches.
The flags at the Stormers training ground in Bellville flew at half-mast on Monday as a sign of respect to Jantjies, whose father, Thomas, 46, a warrant officer in the army, died in 1 Military Hospital in Pretoria on Saturday after complications from a bee sting.
‘It’s really sad, a real tragedy for the Jantjies family and we want to support Elton in whatever way we can,’ Stormers coach Allister Coetzee said on Monday. ‘He has returned to Johannesburg and he must take as much time as he needs to deal with the tragedy. There will not be any pressure on him to return to action. He definitely won’t play in the two warm-up matches and we’ll take it from there.
‘We have Gary van Aswegen coming back into training after recovering from injury and we have also had Kurt Coleman training hard with us. Then there is Louis Schreuder, who although a scrumhalf looked quite good when tried at flyhalf last season, as well as Dewaldt Duvenage, another scrumhalf who can also play flyhalf.’
The Stormers, of course, also have stalwart Peter Grant available to them, but his arrival back in the Cape is dependent on when his Japanese club is knocked out of their competition, with Coetzee stating that it could be any time between 5 February and 25 February.

This is a tough one. Why in SA is there no structured compassionate leave?

I am deeply troubled by the synchronised spin coming from Keo and his client.
Yesterday Keo wrote:
Watson three years ago described South African rugby as a game run by ‘********’.
Yesterday Puke said:
I really thought that fronting the issue of what I said three years ago was dealt with three years ago,’
Three years ago? Keo and Puke. If the two of you are going to hatchet some kind of PR job to relaunch a has-been career then the least you can do is get your dates right. Was it not October 2008 that the dword bomb was dropped? – unless Pukey repeated it again in 2010, three years ago.

Complications from a bing sting…
Just horrible. Those little critters are still the number one killer after Mosquitoes if I’m not mistaken.

What about Tim Swiel?
@Bagel-9:
Ja, they cause more death than sharks for example but there is hardly the same outcry.

@Robzim-10: is van aswegen ever not going to be injured – what about that other Bolander who played for the Puma’s two seasons ago. Not Coleman the other one.

@RL-11:
You are pobably talking about Elgar Watts- he is not a bad player but his kicking for the posts used to let him down- i am not sure what happened to him and whether he is still with Boland , but it does not appear as if AC rates him anyway.
29 Jan 2013, 08:33 am
@Robzim-10:
he’s with the JBs isn’t he..?
29 Jan 2013, 08:35 am
@Robzim-12:
rob…
when saying that he’d most probably use duvvies or schreuder ac also mentioned that “there is also elgar who come along nicely and impressed”… or words to that effect…
29 Jan 2013, 08:35 am
@Robzim-12: yes him. Play Watts and let Joe Petersen take the kicks.
29 Jan 2013, 08:42 am
@ufo-13:
He is, but I thought that they will be available for the Franchises for the time being.
@ufo-14:
i will never trust him to take vital kcks, he just does not have that ‘calmness” about him. His kicking for posts is more or less the equivalent to Deon Fourie feeding a vital lineout
@RL-15:
Joe is going to struggle to make the team now that taute is around.
29 Jan 2013, 08:47 am
@Robzim-16:
i’m not sure what the deal is with the JBs…
hehehe…
maybe he’s been working on it…
tell you what, charl van vollenhoven gave an awesome kicking display for uwc last night… kicking in the gale and curling the ball in between the posts like a putt with a big break… very impressive…

@Robzim-10: Bees by definition are not dangerous. People with allergic reaction should be aware and be careful. Maybe promote testing.
I literally walked into a hornets’ nest in the bush the other day. Luckily only one stung me!! Phew it stung!!!
29 Jan 2013, 09:06 am
@ufo-17:
I did not watch the games last night. I assume charl is with UWC? With a surname like that he must have some rugby talent I suppose.
@@whistle@blower@-19:
True, but it seems as if quite a hgh perentage of people are allergic to it. I remember a few months ago bees stung a few competitors during a mountain bike race and there was chaos- some okes had to be flown out by helicopter to get proper treatment.
29 Jan 2013, 09:23 am
@Robzim-20:
Yes Rob, that’s why like malaria, testing should be campaign driven. And people prone should carry some form of antidote.
That mountain bike incident was serious. And I suppose it did not help much that heart rates were up. It affects your breathing. Can you imagine????

I think Elgar turned out for the Cheetahs in a warmup game.

It is very sad news for the whole family, and especially in many ways for Elton and Tony.
Mr Thomas Jantjies was their coach and seems to have been a massive role-model.
This year is Elton’s year and this is the worst timing for him. I just hope this wont mess up his year and distract him from fulfilling his potential – which is the dream he and his Dad had for him.
My condolences to the family

Nicely said bokfan.
29 Jan 2013, 19:41 pm
Seemed a different Stormers’ motive is affecting that decision
If Kevin Curren could play at Wimbaldon’s final on the day his dad passed away, surely Jantjies can play warm ups after few weeks
