@skopdiekan-56: We were kind of starved of Rugby coming out of the Republic during the seventies and eighties. We had heard of the great names Gerber, Naas Botha, C Du Plesis,Ray Mordt etc but hadn't seen them actually play other than snippets. I was too young to really remember the tour in 76, so when the 81 tour came around was quite fascinated to see these players whom I had heard were as good or not better than what we had.

I didn’t own or watch tv in this country till late 80′s
I didn’t watch or follow the 81 tour apart from what we read or heard in the news
I didn’t follow rugby closely till around 91 WC with Campese Horan Little Lynagh Sella Blanco etc
I watched one game here with Fox and Going I think Going came earlier
I watched the rebel tour with Wright Botha Du Plessis bros Rynach vs Abs then switched off till 91 WC
Didn’t watch 87 WC and I either didn’t own a tv then or wasn’t interested

I followed rugby through school Davie De Villiers Pietersen Visagie Mannequins Roux

I remember watching Mark Ella play for the Wallabies in their 1984 tour in to the UK

@Te Rangatira-53: Ok thanks Te Ranga I lost touch with most teams during those eras I didn't follow much sport at all during those times we only got TV here around mid 80's I think and round then I was more immersed in other interests and activities apart from sport or rugby. Remember watching Grant Fox with Sid Going when they toured here and they were impressive but didn't follow rugby or sport that closely back then

@skopdiekan-39: Some interesting names you have there Skop....but the best center to come out of Nz was Bruce Robertson, all class that guy. Smoking Joe Stanley is another who like Frank Bunce blossomed in his late twenties -early thirties, Auckland Legends.....
