Late Bulls flurry floors Lions

Late Bulls flurry floors Lions

The Bulls have beaten the Lions 38-32 to claim early Gauteng bragging rights.

The Bulls led 19-3 but the Lions showed character to reduce the lead with a two try burst and on the hour led 27-25.

But the final quarter belonged to the visitors who edged ahead with penalty kicks before making certain of the win with a try three minutes from the end.

The Lions, young and adventurous, still wouldn’t say no to the defeat and had the satisfaction of scoring the final try of the match.

    Jan Serfontein is going to be our (the Boks) prime centre in a year or two. All the other guys on here have been umming and aahing about him but he is quality through and bloody through

    nice – Lions fightback

  • 12.Slumtown: Reply to this comment

    @i_love_u_bakkiesbotha-10: ja but basically he is just plain mutli faceted – strong defence, big guy, has a good step, and eye for a gap, elusive, and that offload was great.

  • 13.i_love_u_bakkiesbotha: Reply to this comment

    this game is too loose for my liking though.

    would have prefered a tighter structured approach by both teams.
    there’s nothing to learn by mimicking the Keewees fake running rugby if you do not plan to play at cheating too. tight disciplined defences will punish a helter skelter approach without the required dirty stuff to free up your attacking running game.

    what is Smith’s job title and role at the Chiefs?

  • 23.i_love_u_bakkiesbotha: Reply to this comment

    i dont agree
    the point is he ran a line which obstructed the bulls scummie and certainly reduced his options to play the ball advantageously.
    fair penalty imo.

    nicely done Volmink

    this game is too loose

    there is nothing to be learnt from this except maybe fitness levels.

  • 25.i_love_u_bakkiesbotha: Reply to this comment

    this try was the reslut of poor ball control and placement at the ruck/breakdown by the bulls.ball was not stolen or won over, they just popped it over to the lions.

    With Pollard Serfontein Mapoe Venter Engelbrecht Mastriet Basson in Bulls backline they don’t need any of their old has beens like Olivier and Kirchner to fckup the works. They’d be wise to ditch Spies Olivier et al and then they could develop into a very competent side in a very short time.

  • 33.playtheball: Reply to this comment

    @stormer in a teacup-30: Bwahahahaha! very funny.

    Bulls should be happy with the silverware. Forget the Plascon Wall-and-all, in 2013 the Gauteng Baas-van-die-Plaas Trophy is the new black.

    If bulls scrum holds they will once again score lots of tries

  • 41.grant10: Reply to this comment

    Bulls biggest issues which will lead to all sorts of problems is they going to have to ‘ accomodate ‘ Spies, W Olivier and M Steyn……and that means leaving there actual best players on the bench.

    Arno Botha, Serfontein [ he is a 12 imo ] and Pollard…..

    Arno is literally twice the player that Spies is and in tandem with Steggmann and Dewalt Potgieter Bulls loose trio would be a handfull…..add Spies and you add problems.

    As for M Steyn, he will detract from those young and attak minded backs…

    Olivier for Serfontein would simply be a crime.

  • 42.WPStormer Shadow: Reply to this comment

  • 43.Brigadier Van Zyl: Reply to this comment

    No doubt some very talented youngsters coming through with the bulls, however, a win aganst the lions vodacom cup side doesn’t by default make you superrugby performers.
    like spies, olivier and steyn.

    See here is the difference between our rugby and your rugby. Hence why you call it cheating and fake cos you cant pay that style.
    But here is the difference between kiwi running rugby and South African running rugby. Ours is structured…. you guys run like the colonel Sanders has just visited a chicken farm.
    Reasons why you do not understand the running style at all……

  • 48.i_love_u_bakkiesbotha: Reply to this comment

    @Hurricane-47:
    no, you cheat massively
    this is what frees up space for you to run when its on
    for the rest you kick a lot.

    Nope, we are better at the game than most….superiority is an advantage…just the way the cookie crumbles….oh and when we get space on the outside….see you later…over rover….catch you up. When the kick is on ….we kick it…simple…watch and learn, Houston…hehe

  • 50.i_love_u_bakkiesbotha: Reply to this comment

    @Te Rangatira-49:
    no, thats hollywood make believe fantasies, TR.
    your rugby is predicated on cheating intentionally and outrageously for the purpose of quick ball recycle and speeding up your play when you are in possesion and re attacking. when this works for your teams its fine when it does not you kick, a lot.

    when not in possesion you cheat as per normal with aspects of dirty play included for the purpose of slowing down and negating the oppositons attempts at playing quick ball at speed.

    the extent to which you do this is larfable and the stuff you do to manipulate the processes designed to adjudicate and officiate over games and rugby as a whole is even more larfable and shameful still.
