Late Bulls flurry floors Lions
2 Feb 2013
The Bulls have beaten the Lions 38-32 to claim early Gauteng bragging rights.
The Bulls led 19-3 but the Lions showed character to reduce the lead with a two try burst and on the hour led 27-25.
But the final quarter belonged to the visitors who edged ahead with penalty kicks before making certain of the win with a try three minutes from the end.
The Lions, young and adventurous, still wouldn’t say no to the defeat and had the satisfaction of scoring the final try of the match.

All Dragons would.

Does anyone know how to watch this in the UK? Is it on Sky, or is there a way to steam it on the internet?

beautiful offoad Serfontein
Bulls looking good
2 Feb 2013, 15:34 pm
Jan Serfontein is going to be our (the Boks) prime centre in a year or two. All the other guys on here have been umming and aahing about him but he is quality through and bloody through
2 Feb 2013, 15:37 pm
and Coetzee from the Lions is looking like a future prospect for scrumhalf
2 Feb 2013, 15:39 pm
@Slumtown-8:
i really like the way he runs at the line with intent
and the way he straightens is class
2 Feb 2013, 15:41 pm
nice – Lions fightback
2 Feb 2013, 15:42 pm
@i_love_u_bakkiesbotha-10: ja but basically he is just plain mutli faceted – strong defence, big guy, has a good step, and eye for a gap, elusive, and that offload was great.
2 Feb 2013, 15:45 pm
this game is too loose for my liking though.
would have prefered a tighter structured approach by both teams.
there’s nothing to learn by mimicking the Keewees fake running rugby if you do not plan to play at cheating too. tight disciplined defences will punish a helter skelter approach without the required dirty stuff to free up your attacking running game.

2 Feb 2013, 15:54 pm
@Slumtown-12:
yip agreed.
he will make the boks
at the bulls expense
2 Feb 2013, 15:54 pm
@i_love_u_bakkiesbotha-18: they are both the attack coaches duh…
2 Feb 2013, 15:57 pm
Interesting selection of a referee by Saru

Name is Swindle and he looks a clone of pro legota?
Future looks bright
2 Feb 2013, 15:58 pm
@Transformation-20:
forwards ‘and attack’ coach could mean a lot of things.
what is Smith’s job title and role at the Chiefs?
2 Feb 2013, 16:03 pm
i dont agree
the point is he ran a line which obstructed the bulls scummie and certainly reduced his options to play the ball advantageously.
fair penalty imo.
2 Feb 2013, 16:08 pm
nicely done Volmink
this game is too loose
there is nothing to be learnt from this except maybe fitness levels.
2 Feb 2013, 16:10 pm
this try was the reslut of poor ball control and placement at the ruck/breakdown by the bulls.ball was not stolen or won over, they just popped it over to the lions.
2 Feb 2013, 16:11 pm
Kallis gone for 7.
2 Feb 2013, 16:16 pm
no, take the points.
flippin mickey mouse stuff.
2 Feb 2013, 16:17 pm
Lions do look better with the ball in hand.
2 Feb 2013, 16:28 pm
Serfdom twin is the next Jean de Villiers. He has the class to own that position.
2 Feb 2013, 16:30 pm
Serfdom twin? Predictive text needs a crash course in South African names.
2 Feb 2013, 16:40 pm
@Treehugger-28: Lion will always look better than the bullies, and guppies and cheats and brokebacks
2 Feb 2013, 16:52 pm
With Pollard Serfontein Mapoe Venter Engelbrecht Mastriet Basson in Bulls backline they don’t need any of their old has beens like Olivier and Kirchner to fckup the works. They’d be wise to ditch Spies Olivier et al and then they could develop into a very competent side in a very short time.
2 Feb 2013, 17:00 pm
@stormer in a teacup-30: Bwahahahaha! very funny.
Bulls should be happy with the silverware. Forget the Plascon Wall-and-all, in 2013 the Gauteng Baas-van-die-Plaas Trophy is the new black.
2 Feb 2013, 17:21 pm
well that puts that into perspective.
2 Feb 2013, 17:24 pm
@Treehugger-28:
well, you know what they say about ‘all flash no cash’.
still a good enough Lions team to beat those naughty Kings three ways from sunday next weekend.
2 Feb 2013, 17:25 pm
@skopdiekan-32:
squad depth is just as important.
2 Feb 2013, 17:25 pm
15-visser 14-basson 13-olivier 12-serfontein 11-mapoe 10-steyn 9-hougaard
20-vermaak 21-mapoe 22-engelbrecht
2 Feb 2013, 17:29 pm
Shew Mapoe is gonna be busy
2 Feb 2013, 19:51 pm
Just happy we don’t have to watch lions in s15. Rather see kings get hiding than another lions lost
2 Feb 2013, 20:00 pm
If bulls scrum holds they will once again score lots of tries
3 Feb 2013, 07:01 am
Bulls biggest issues which will lead to all sorts of problems is they going to have to ‘ accomodate ‘ Spies, W Olivier and M Steyn……and that means leaving there actual best players on the bench.
Arno Botha, Serfontein [ he is a 12 imo ] and Pollard…..
Arno is literally twice the player that Spies is and in tandem with Steggmann and Dewalt Potgieter Bulls loose trio would be a handfull…..add Spies and you add problems.
As for M Steyn, he will detract from those young and attak minded backs…
Olivier for Serfontein would simply be a crime.
No doubt some very talented youngsters coming through with the bulls, however, a win aganst the lions vodacom cup side doesn’t by default make you superrugby performers.
like spies, olivier and steyn.
3 Feb 2013, 10:00 am
@Brigadier Van Zyl-43: Stick with your old guard….no skin off my nose……in fact I prefer it, especially for your 1 st game .
3 Feb 2013, 12:19 pm
Think spies is going to lift his game this season. Wynand is always going forward.the youngsters will make impact of bench.

@i_love_u_bakkiesbotha-13:
See here is the difference between our rugby and your rugby. Hence why you call it cheating and fake cos you cant pay that style.
But here is the difference between kiwi running rugby and South African running rugby. Ours is structured…. you guys run like the colonel Sanders has just visited a chicken farm.
Reasons why you do not understand the running style at all……
4 Feb 2013, 07:01 am
@Hurricane-47:
no, you cheat massively
this is what frees up space for you to run when its on
for the rest you kick a lot.
4 Feb 2013, 07:15 am
@i_love_u_bakkiesbotha-48:
Nope, we are better at the game than most….superiority is an advantage…just the way the cookie crumbles….oh and when we get space on the outside….see you later…over rover….catch you up. When the kick is on ….we kick it…simple…watch and learn, Houston…hehe
4 Feb 2013, 07:31 am
@Te Rangatira-49:
no, thats hollywood make believe fantasies, TR.
your rugby is predicated on cheating intentionally and outrageously for the purpose of quick ball recycle and speeding up your play when you are in possesion and re attacking. when this works for your teams its fine when it does not you kick, a lot.
when not in possesion you cheat as per normal with aspects of dirty play included for the purpose of slowing down and negating the oppositons attempts at playing quick ball at speed.
the extent to which you do this is larfable and the stuff you do to manipulate the processes designed to adjudicate and officiate over games and rugby as a whole is even more larfable and shameful still.
