Rathbone back with a roar

Rathbone back with a roar

Clyde Rathbone scored on his Super Rugby comeback in Darwin.

The former Wallabies wing and SA under 21 captain who retired a few years ago because of knee problems and then endured depression was lured back to rugby by Brumbies coach Jake White, who also coached the SA under 21 team Rathbone captained to the world title.

The Brumbies, fielding a different side for each of halves, beat the Force 20-18 after leading 17-3 with the main side.

Rathbone started with the ‘A’ side and scored and played the 40 minutes without difficulty. Australia’s captain David Pockock also played his first match for his new franchise, ironically against his old team. He also made it through the first half of the match without any fuss and was rested for the second 40.

So is this “A” side really the B-side or is it an actual A-side? Hard to tell these days when the First Division is actually the second or third division.

No fan, but have to give him credit for finally taking charge of his life and not shifting the blame while feeling sorry for himself. Seems he’s finally realized that the world doesn’t owe him anything.

He could’ve been quite a special player if he stayed in SA. Our Rugby suited him more and he would’ve played his preferred position at centre.
