Inspired Italians fry the Frogs

Italy came from behind to beat France in Sunday’s Six Nations match in Rome.

France, unbeaten during the November internationals, were the pre-tournament favourites and Italy’s 23-18 win will have been a double boost to England and Ireland who got winning starts on Saturday.

France led 15-13 at half-time but could only manage one try in the second 40 minutes as the Italian defence held tight and the home crowd support did the rest.

    That performance he put in at Soccer City in 10′ was one of the best I’ve ever seen from a loosie.

    @NZINCHINA-51:

    Very interesting comment from your side – who would you make our loose trio out of: Juan, Schalk, Alberts, Francois Louw and Vermulean (bearing in mind that Juan first played, in NZ as well, a blinding No. 8)? (Schalk good at 8 also – the dream team was him, Richie and Jerry Collins for BaaBaas at Twickenham).

    Juan/Louw and play Schalk at 8 assuming he’s back to where he was. I don’t rate Alberts that highly as I don’t think he got a good enough rugby brain, he’s just a battering ram. We are missing Kaino big time at 6′ our loose trio is a little unbalanced without the enforcer type at 6, we are going to have to be careful we don’t get outmuscled this year, also Cory Jane a massive massive loss for us the guy is a match winner and a out of position winger who can kick, if we play Gear and Savea on the flanks we go back to having two wingers who aren’t that good at tactical kicking so if I was the opposing coach I’d attack that area like the Bokke did in 09′ when we had the likes of Siti on the wing.

    Makes sense – who captains the side while Richie takes long, well-earned rest?
    (NZ rugby system way more evolved than SA – in NZ national team comes first, in SA they all bicket among themselves for their turf and national team comes second – just dreadful).

    @J.B. Cowper-54: I think Read will be the captain in McCaws absence, otherwise maybe Smith, but of the opinion your captain should be in the engine room..

    Definitely captain should be there – but French captain who led series victory in ’93 (St Andres) played out on the left wing – go figure: no rhyme nor reason to those people – scrumhalf can also do a good job sometimes (Dawie de Villiers v Lahore’s GREAT side in 1970) – but agree captain should be there or inspirational loose forward.

    cracking win – whose coaching the italians these days? where’s mallett?

    i saw the irish welsh game, pretty much as expected, welsh locks depleted. scotland england also as expected – it was a v good win v ABs but i fancy the boks to beat allcomers this year if meyer is not too backward, bloubul biased, that is.

    we’d crack them a good one with deon fourie backup to bismark, elstadt as the no4, etsebeth at 5, kolisi and brussow in the loosie mix, de jong starting with frans steyn and serfontein on the bench along with rhule.
