SBW survives late White Buffalo onslaught

SBW survives late White Buffalo onslaught

Sonny Bill Williams beat Francois Botha on points in Brisbane after the boxing bout was controversially reduced from 12 to 10 rounds during the fight.

The former All Blacks centre was hanging on by a thread in what turned out to be the last round and would almost certainly have lost if another two rounds had been allowed.

The judges awarded the fight to Williams 97-91, 98-94 and 97-91.

‘I love Sonny Bill, but this is bullshit,’ Botha said afterwards. ‘I beat him hands free!’

Earlier, Wallabies flyhalf Quade Cooper won his first professional fight in a first-round knockout of Australian Barry Dunnett.

There will be repeats of both fights on SuperSport at 3pm (SS5) and 7pm (SS1).

Sonny Bill wants a rematch……………………………………in SA.
    In Cape Town.

It keeps getting better. Now I remember why I don’t watch a lot of boxing. I’d rather waste my precious timing on WWF, at least everyone knows the rules – every match is fixed and steroids are probably optional.

SEVERE doubts have been cast on Francois Botha’s reported positive test to a banned substance before his WBA title fight against Sonny Bill Williams.

Fairfax Media stated Sunday night that Botha’s urine tested positive for banned stimulant Phentermine after a sample was taken last Tuesday.

However, Australian National Boxing Federation committee member John Hogg said it would be “bizarre” if Botha was even tested, let alone did so knowing he would fail.

Hogg is the ANBF Queensland representative and was the man who sent Botha for his full medical last week.

Hogg said there were no compulsory performance enhancing drugs tests required for boxers in Queensland and he had never heard of Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority spot-testing professional boxers in Queensland.

An ASADA spokesman said the body was not in a position to make a formal comment on the issue but typically boxing title fights fell out of their jurisdiction.

Williams deservedly defeated Botha on points at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre last Friday, but was out on his feet in the 10th round when the fight ended despite everyone believing it was a 12-round contest.

Fairfax’s report did not mention which body tested him and how the results were returned in five days.

There was no WBA official at the fight. “I sent Frans for a complete medical which tested him for hepatitis and AIDS etc but that is the only testing required of professional boxers,” Hogg told The Courier-Mail. “I have never heard of ASADA spot-testing professional boxers in Queensland.

“I would think I would have heard about ASADA testing Botha or Sonny Bill because they have never showed up to boxing gyms in Queensland or on fight night.

“Tests for performance enhancing drugs are not compulsory in Queensland.”

Williams’ manager, Khoder Nasser, WAS THE PROMOTER OF THE FIGHT NIGHT last Friday and did not respond to requests from The Courier-Mail for comment on the doping test claim against Botha.

Hogg said Nasser could have asked Botha to submit to further testing. “But Frans could also rightly refuse,” he said. “Then again, what is the point of testing a fighter on a Tuesday if you only get the result after the fight.

“The only way he would have been tested is if Nasser made him but then which body would Nasser have got to do it?”

South Africans do not find themselves represented by the sporting teams of other countries. They also know more than sweet fokkall about their own country’s sporting personalities.

I have lost faith in my country after this latest incident.
    I had money on Botha.
Now it is clear the best man won.

Why is it that South Africans and Australians seem to be so involved in match fixing and doping .

I think its the ego of big nations ,well it has now been exposed .
The Domino effect is now in play in Australia.
Its only a matter of time until they snitch to save them selves.

I have been at many All Blacks matches in my all blacks gear in Capetown .

throughout this whole charade your target has been SBWs, youve been adamant it was his fault the fight was shortened and that it was his fault the bell was rung “early” and that the guilt was solely his

why the change now bakkies? youve been very vitriolic towards the man himself, now you want to shift focus to the manager

fck off you myopic w@nker. your hatred of NZ is well known on this blog and even Saffa posters pity you and are embarassed by your incessant, constant hate spewed forth in NZs direction..

So, John Hogg says that he is not sure Botha was tested positive, and you velieve him

when Johm Hogg was adamane that both camps agreed to 10 rounds, you maintained and continued to ask why the fight was stopped early?

SO, when John Hoggs statement supports your argument, his word is gospel

when it doesnt, his word is nothing?

 okay bakkies, you stick to that argument then, because it looks fair and balanced…

I have watched so much sport in my life and spent hard earnt money betting on matches ,buying supporter gear and attending games.
Id call sport my religion and in some ways i feel i have wasted my life watching sport and supporting teams when in many cases the game has been tainted by doping and match fixing .
Whats the saying i always hear on the streets in Cape Town
    # Money talks
Well in my view now money cheats and money ruins sport

Professionalism & Gambling & Drugs have ruined sport .

At least in WWF we now its rigged.
