Stormers bash Boland

The Stormers beat the Boland Kavaliers 57-0 at Cape Town Stadium.

The Cape franchise scored nine tries, with Siya Kolisi getting a hat-trick in the space of 13 minutes and Gio Aplon a double. New fullback Jaco Taute also scored his first try in Stormers colours.

The Stormers led 17-0 at half-time, but ran rampant after the break as the rain stopped and the sun came out.

The only negative for the SA conference champions was the ankle injury sustained by Bok lock Eben Etzebeth, who limped off early in the first half.

‘We’re a bit nervous about Eben’s ankle strain,’ said Stormers coach Allister Coetzee. ‘He landed awkwardly at a lineout and will have a scan tonight.’

This game – even though a warm up game – just again illustrated that Coleman and Duwenhage shouldn’t be seen in Stormers jumpers. Coleman is shy to take contact and stands as deep in the pocket as M. Steyn and Duwenhage is just popo. When Groom came on in the second half and Coleman was sent packing the game had much more flow to it! Welcome back Siya! What a player!!!!

    Stormers beat the C side.
Boland is part of the Stormers.
    Cheetahs won 27-26 last week.
Not really a milestone to beat Boland vodacom side.

Stormers were testing combinations against Cheetah’s. The score in these games mean nothing. Cheetah’s beat Stormers in last years warm up game too. Look what happened in S15.

These games mean nothing to us supporters, but a good opportunity for the teams to get their combinations sorted.Take note,Lions supporters.

yeah… we shouldn’t take these games and results too seriously….

but they are good windowsills to peek over and see how things are going…

stormers are looking relaxed but not overconfident… there is an obvious spirit within the team and just as obvious they enjoy their teammates and play for each other…

bryan looked sharp and hungry… andries was playing with fire and great to see him moving freely with no pain issues… jean looked good too…

from still can’t throw the ball in… but came alive when moved to flank… I think he is a better loosie than hooker and should ‘simply’ convert full time…

player of the first half IMO was rhynhardt at 7… he is back to his tough as teak best… he is the guy to step into juan’s gigantic shoes… no he is not juan but will come closest to filling juan’s legendary boots…

he only played the first half…

siya had a storming second half… what a likable hard working unassuming and talented player he is… he is gonna be a crowd favorite in a bok jersey before too long…

nizaam was very good for his 20 or do minutes…

Jaco seems very a home only played first half and spent the second tjomming it up with schalk in the dugout for the rest of the game…

d’allende must play centre looked very good there… gio and joe both looking sharp too…

pity about eben… happened right in front of us and he went down as soon as he landed and was in a lot of pain… hope he’s okay…

looking forward to elton getting involved… he’s gonna enjoy playing in this set up…

so even though the result may be meaningless… it was cool to see the attitude and focus of the guys…

now the season must just start already….

    @ufo-6:

    Love Siya Kolisi…

but where do you play him?

He’s just too short to be a long-term starter on the blindside.

Anyone have any objections to him playing number-8?

    @hendrikp-8:

    hey hendrik…

    maybe not…

siya did well today starting at 6… then when deon swapped from 2 to 6 siya went to 7… and then looked GREAT imo…

and nizaam is looking very good at 8…

interesting that the two best performances in the match… IMO… came from the two guys playing blindside in either half…

stormers looking strong in the loosies… and several if not all of them can play in several positions… if ac does rotate carefully and strategically as he has mentioned and they all keep fit… then things may look up for us this year…

but as good as siya is and was today… i’m most excited by rhynhardt’s showing today… he really was back to his best of two seasons ago or so… hope he maintains that…

as i said before the end of last year… i would choose to use schalk off the bench… siya and rhynhardt starting at 6 and 7 and then mixing it up in the second half in any number of ways… we have a lot of talent in the loosie dept.

then there’s deon… he must become a full time flank at some point… was very good today on the flank…

and don armand… effeective at 7 and at lock today…

and duane of course… also did some good stuff… but he was overshadowed by rhynhardt IMO… and was rested early in the second half…
