Eben Etzebeth will miss the start of the Stormers’ Super Rugby campaign after being ruled out for six to eight weeks with an ankle injury.

The Bok lock limped off in the first half after landing awkwardly at a lineout and a subsequent scan revealed that he tore ligaments in his left ankle.

‘It’s unfortunate for the team and Eben, but like I said after the match yesterday injuries are part and parcel of the game,’ said Stormers coach Allister Coetzee.

‘We are fortunate to have players in our squad who can step in and fill that role and that’s our focus for now – to find a player to fill that No 4 lock role.

‘At the same time, however, our medical team will also ensure that Eben recovers well and comes back strongly for the Stormers.’

    well for one it’ll be moderated with racism/bigotry/offensive language/ certain types of flaming/certain types of trolling not being allowed ostensibly.

    so either this will see it grow a following of ‘everybody other than the keo regulars’ or it will end up being JAKSW with a minimal to nil blogging community participating.

    just had a look.

    first things first, i would rather have boring power tools looking back at me on the left and right hand sides of my screen than a ridiculous looking sharkie on the right and an equally ridiculous looking stompie on the left. wtf?

    i dont like to have men looking back at me this way

    let alone this

    i would rather adverts or pretty girls

    well this is bad news for the breezers.

    because we all know that bekker will break after one or two games and then the locking crisis will be on.

    luckily AC wont have to whine about not being allowed to change the rules to suit his team as it has happened early enough in the season.

    @The Rangerman-171: Thankyeverymuchforcaring. I think we might be covered. In fact…..if as you predict Bekker is crocked at a later stage, Eben will be back and can play at 5……with Elstadt at 4, and a loose trio of Burger, Kolisi, Vermeulen (Carr MUST get plensch game time).

    Add to that Armand, Rhodes, Steenkamp (not my fave….but seems to have HTFU a little?). vd Sluys etc.

    After that we are in sh y te. For now: not so much.

    exactly… banning people is not the answer…

    this site is all about diversity and is more representative of south africa across the board than any other rugby site IMO…

    from conservative to liberal… black, coloured, white, asian… south africans, kiwis, aus, english, scot etc.. resident saffas, expat saffas… saffa lovers, saffa haters…

    it is not a cocooned little enclave where you just hear what you want to hear… you’re gonna hear things that you don’t like, that hopefully challenge you and make you think…

    but you gotta be on your toes… fools are not suffered lightly here… make silly posts and you’re gonna be told about it in no uncertain terms… we’ve all been on the receiving end of that…

    keo just has to get a few writers and then normal service will resume… dunno what all the panic is about…

    although some up-to-dating and innovation would be a good idea… keo set many trends and standards when it started… but if you’re standing still you’re going backwards… so some creative thinking, strategising and developments would be a good idea in this time of change…
