Botha boosts Bulls loosies

Arno Botha and Jacques Potgieter are fit to play against the Force.

Pierre Spies is the only loose-forward who remains from the opening round win against the Stormers. Dewald Potgieter and Deon Stegman are injured but such is the depth of the squad that Potgieter, who whose Super Rugby form earned him Springbok colours a year ago and Arno Botha combine in a loose-trio potentially stronger than the already good one used a week ago.

Baby Boks midfield star Jan Serfontein has been bracketed among the substitutes.

Flip van der Merwe plays his 50th Super Rugby match.

Bulls: 15 Zane Kirchner, 14 Akona Ndungane/Sampie Mastriet, 13 Lionel Mapoe, 12 Wynand Olivier, 11 Bjorn Basson, 10 Morne Steyn, 9 Francois Hougaard, 8 Pierre Spies (c), 7 Arno Botha, 6 Jacques Potgieter, 5 Juandre Kruger, 4 Flip van der Merwe, 3 Werner Kruger, 2 Chiliboy Ralepelle, 1 Morne Mellett.
Subs: 16 Willie Wepener, 17 Frik Kirsten, 18 Grant Hattingh, 19 Jean Cook, 20 Jano Vermaak, 21 Louis Fouche, 22 Jan Serfontein/Francois Venter

    Botha and Potgieter so much better than Stegmann and Dewald. How they manage to keep those two and let Stander go is beyond me.

    Really hope mastriet gets a start.

    did young venter pick up a knock. thought he had a good outing last week.

    bulls need to get the full 5 points from this game.

    @Brigadier Van Zyl-3:

    He did but a pathetic tackle attempt on Andries Bekker which let him in for the score undid pretty much all of that.

    One of Franna’s bigger supporters on here but he needs to tighten up his game substantially.

    Gun backline gun loosies, would be a shocker if we don’t get 5 points

    Best backline we could have. Serfontein looks good but this is super rugby so it’ll take him time. Mellet will definitely push Greyling. Flip needs to be amazing for once. Arno, Jacques and Spies are going to be devastating. Give them ball in space and you’ll see. Houggie will def attack more esp around fringes while Morne will be in tip top shape. Wynand to crush that puny inside centre and Lionel will take the lines. Excited for Mastriet and Basson needs some ball!!!!

    I hope serfontein gets some game time as it would be a good time to blood him at this level and against the force would be the right time.I think this team is good enough to beat the force and get a 5 pointer.I am glad mellet is starting again as i think he is a good prospect at loosehead.So i say Cummon Bulls give your fans another good performance,and make it another good weekend after last saturdays win over the 2nd raters.

    @blueboy-9: I agree re Mellett! He did well last week. IMO the Stormers gave him motivation with the pre-match talk that he was going to be targeted in the scrums.
