O Vok here we go No.3 in the trilogy of the Jantjies f’ng fiasco.

I guess these WP coaches are no Einsteins.. they never did learn the lesson that if you keep doing the same experiment and keep getting the same results you ain’t learned nothing yet.

Another loss on the cards for Stormers then. I’ll have to take their players out of my fantasy rugby team, don’t want to lose points.

The Stormers is a better team than many on here think.

Lost two away games against two of the better teams in the tournament.

    If Jantjies kicked the penalties.

    If Aplon caught the cross-kick.

@skopdiekan-4: the continued selection of Deon F, Elstadt @ flank & now Joe P, definitely leads you to believe the stormers coaches are domkops.

@willievz-8: If they were better then they would have won those games.Champ teams win , so so teams get to the knockouts.Thats the lesson us Stormers learnt the last few years. As always , I will support my team but jassis I will probably not enjoy the game :(

Hahah oh no the same team

After 2 losses you would think they might learn

    Elstadt, Steenkamp and Groom?

Would have started Armand, Rhodes/Carr and Schroeder

Strongest possible team v this one

    15 Taute / Pietersen
    14 Aplon / Aplon
13 De Jongh / De Allende
12 De Villiers / De Villiers
    11 Habana / Habana
    10 Jantjes / Jantjes
    9 Schoeder / Groom
    8 Vermeulen / Vermeulen
    7 Burger / Elstadt
    6 Kolisi / Kolisi
    5 Bekker / Bekker
    4 Etzebeth / Steenkamp
    3 Cilliers / Malherbe
    2 Liebenberg / Fourie
    1 Kitshoff / Kitshoff

    16 Fourie / Liebenberg
    17 Cilliers / Cilliers
    18 Armand / Armand
    19 Carr / Carr
    20 Groom / Duvenhage
    21 Grant / Grant
22 Van Den Heever / Van Den Heever

The forward pack has too many slow and dumb forwards

Would have swapped them with Armand and Carr on bench or maybe start Buzidenhout and play Fourie at 6 and Kolisi at 7

Saturday going to be tough outing.

0 from 3 for the Stormers.

Can’t do the same predictable boring thing each week and expect different results.

AC has really disappointed. I rated Jake White highly, but AC seems to be feeding off systems set in place by Rassie, and doesn’t learn from his mistakes. Thank heavens he never became Springbok coach.

@Rhys7-11: I’m not convinced Groom should be dropped yet. I’m a bit biased though, was in my year at School.

Agree that Rhodes should get crack at some point. Elstadt must play at 4 as well…@pompies2-9:

What’s Joe P done wrong? Not the long term solution but Taute is injured. Plus he can kick instead of Elton for a bit.

The Sharks were in the exact same position last year, yet they made the final..

Don’t write off this Stormers team.

Yes it needs some fiddling, but they will win their fair share of matches.

Stormers coach Allister Coetzee said this week that “You can’t operate without a proper set-piece” in explaining some of his team’s problems after two Super Rugby defeats.

With defending champions the Chiefs in town, we asked Stormers forwards coach Matthew Proudfoot a few pointed questions yesterday.

1 Can Steven Kitshoff and Frans Malherbe avoid scrum

    penalties?

We have identified areas that we need to work on. I think that there was an improvement against the Sharks, but it was still not good enough. That’s the bottom line – you can’t go into a major international competition and your set-piece isn’t secure. In terms of the issues in the scrums, I think it has a lot to do with the speed of our engagement, and we are working quite hard on that. It’s too slow.

I don’t speak about the referees because you’ve got a second to make that call (Jaco Peyper, who was in charge of the Bulls-Stormers game, will be the man with the whistle at Newlands on Saturday). There are certain things, other than the calls, that we are discussing with the referees that we feel we need to clarify. With the calling, he makes the call on what he sees. So, we are working on what we think we need to on the set-phase to make it better. We want a strong set-phase.

Kitsie’s posture improved a lot, but not enough, though. I think that maybe one of his penalties was down to a bad habit slipping in, but I definitely did see some improvement there. The key with the speed of the engagement is that it will aid in the posture as well, as he will get into a better position quicker.

I have seen a big improvement in Frans this season, which has been great. For a 22-year-old player, there are still certain things that you will work on. But it was a lot better from him. The quicker engagement will aid him as he is 6ft 3in – he’s a tall guy.

2 The lineouts were improved against the Sharks, but is Deon Fourie a hooker or flank?

I thought that the lineout was a lot better, but the delivery to nine wasn’t very crisp. We are working hard on that. I think that Deon is performing well. We are working on the consistency of his throw. But what was better for me against the Sharks was the timing of our lifters. I still think that we are taking too long to get off the ground, which allowed the Sharks time to get their jumpers up. That’s where the contest occurred in the air.

Deon is the starting hooker, and that’s all that’s important. That is where we are picking him and where he needs to perform for the team. Tiaan is also looking good.

3 Why does Rynhardt Elstadt drop his shoulder into defenders and run upright?

We worked on that after the Bulls game. I thought that Rynhardt had an exceptional game against the Sharks. Physically, I thought that he was good – he put a lot of physicality into that game. (Jean) Deysel turned us over once or twice on the ground, which was really effective.

But I think that Duane had a fantastic game, Rynhardt had a fantastic game physically. The nature of that game was that it was a physical-attrition game, and it suited those two types of guys. They played well.

We use Rynhardt in a role to get us momentum, which is what we’ve worked on. The crowd are getting behind the guys with the feet – Siya has great feet, and Nizaam has great feet, Andries has great feet. We look to them to get in behind the defence, but we want Rynhardt to get momentum for us.

4 Has Siya Kolisi been quiet and gone off the boil?

Siya is a senior player and must play like one, but he is still a young guy. He brings enthusiasm to the team and great energy. I think we must look at him in that way, and not place expectation on him. I don’t want that typical thing of people saying “He’s not what he was last year” and “It’s his second year”. I don’t want that equation to be put on him.

I think Siya is fantastic for this team – he delivers, he plays with a massive heart. I’m happy. Of course we want more from him, like any coach wants from any player. I disagree with the notion that he is not at the same level of last year. He is delivering what we want from him for this team. It is natural to want more from every player. But to say that he is quiet is unfair.

5 What do you make of the Chiefs pack?

If you watched them against the Highlanders in their first game, they were impressive in the scrums. So, I don’t think we should take them lightly. (Brodie) Retallick is a massive man, and both locks are good lineout forwards. They use (Liam) Messam extensively as their go-to option in the lineout, as he is a very quick jumper.

The problem with them is that because they are such a good first-phase striking team, if you get it wrong at contesting time, you are giving them good ball. So, we have to be very careful of when and where we attack their lineout. They are a good side, and how robust they are impresses me no end.

  • 19.stormersboy: Reply to this comment

Interesting that AC keeps talking about the speed of the lineout jumpers.

    It also helps if

    (a) You throw it in straight, and
    (b) You don’t throw it 2 meters over the heads of the jumpers.

    But that’s just me.

  • 20.hendrikp: Reply to this comment

    @Jonck-18: @stormersboy-19:

Sounds like AC reckons everyone had a fantastic or exceptional game, yet we still couldn’t win.

Can’t make the difficult calls. Too much of a nice guy. Stormers are on a slide that will ultimately lead to him losing his job.

  • 21.stormersboy: Reply to this comment

@hendrikp-20: Yes, he’s a really good guy, a real gentleman, and he’s made improvements over the years but there comes a time when it’s stand and deliver or you become the Sharks, all play and no big trophy.

The mercurial Aaron Cruden visits the Cape?

Oh my golly, how those rugby loving CapeKiwis drool for the feast of running rugby that should be laid at their clouded table.

Who in global rugby is a more creative, incisive, and unselfish a first 5/8ths than this exciting player ,with or without SBW?

He created at least 3 tries against the Cheetahs and should thrill again for the running rugby starved Capies. who have been such loyal Kiwi supporters.
Reward them Aaron, reward them well my son(since before 2011).

Anscombe, the other wonder(with Sam Cane) since the JWC Championship is not far behind as both a full-back and fly-half.

How is Siya a senior player in only his second season of Super Rugby? And yes, he has been quiet. He seems to be holding back and trying to protect himself – just like Bekker did most of last year.

Don’t think the Chiefs have ever beaten the Stormers at Newlands.

I’ve given Jantjies the benefit of the doubt but Saturday he has to deliver. Its probably the biggest game of his career (including the AB game last season).
If only Aplon held onto that ball, Jantjies would’ve been credited with the “would have been try”. But Geo didn’t and now Jantjies is staring down the barrel.
If things go horribly wrong the Newlands faithfull will turn against the new recruit who hails from Graaff Reneit.

Really looking forward to the game Saturday.

  • 33.Amerifikaner: Reply to this comment

Forwards are being discussed, but the backline is rather weird. 2 crashballers in the mid field with 3 midgets at the back. Glad they kept Jantjies. He is still settling down under coach’s restrictions. Only chance of a spark could come from Jantjies though. Don’t foresee too many tries by the Stormpies. And Chiefs game speed could be troublesome for the Capies.

Boxing: SBW viewers offered free movie by Sky

SKY TV is offering customers who purchased the Sonny Bill Williams boxing match against Francois Botha a free pay-per-view movie after two rounds were cut from the bout.

Fans paid a fee of $39.95 to watch the fight earlier this month, which was controversially cut from 12 to 10 rounds, leaving some customers feeling short-changed.

SKY had previous said it would consider issuing refunds in situations where the broadcast had gone wrong and customers had missed out.

“We delivered to our customers the whole event so there are no issues there. People were a bit surprised about the 10 rounds but it was out of our hands,” spokesperson Kirsty Way said following the fight.
