Duane Vermeulen is out of the June Tests. Stormers strong man Duane Vermeulen returned home from the Stormers Super Rugby tour because of injury and conservatively won't play again until July. It could be that he is out for the remainder of the Super Rugby season as well because of knee ligament damage. Stormers loose-forward Rynhardt Elstadt is also out for at least six weeks as the Cape-based franchise's season went from bad to worse in Sydney. Vermeulen, Meyer's first choice No 8, will be nursed back to action for the Rugby Championship in August. His injury means a likely Bok start ... Read Article20 May 2013
GREGOR PAUL, in the Herald on Sunday, writes world rugby will get its integrated season after the 2015 World Cup and Super Rugby won't break to accommodate an international window. Super Rugby will shift to a March start and won't break for test matches, the June window will be shifted to July and all players will have a 14 to 16-week off-season. Other innovative plans are being discussed, such as building a world series of tests in years that fall between the World Cup and British Lions tours. The revolution that All Black coach Steve Hansen called for last week is coming. The players ... Read Article25 Apr 2013
Jan Serfontein, the player of last year's under 20 World Championship, will head the baby Boks defence in France. Serfontein and Kings wing Sergeal Petersen are two Super Rugby regulars to make Dawie Theron's squad and brilliant flyhalf Handre Pollard is another to play in a second successive tournament. Theron's squad lost a three-match series 2-1 to Argentina in Argentina. Serfontein, Petersen and Western Province's Cheslin Kolbe did not play in those matches. Bulls loose forward Ruan Steenkamp is captain. Serfontein and Pollard are the only two squad members from last year's ... Read Article14 May 2013
All Blacks coach Steve Hansen has selected several uncapped Blues players in his training group. Hansen confirmed 38 names and this included many from the potent Blues backline. The Highlanders, despite only winning one match in this year's Super Rugby competition, have six players in the group. An obvious area of weakness is at hooker where Hansen has selected veterans Andrew Hore and Keven Mealamu and Canes Dane Coles. Options are limited and it certainly is a concern for New Zealanders. No overseas-based players were considered, as it is NZRFU policy. Among the uncapped players ... Read Article15 May 2013
French coach Philipe Saint-Andre has included three South African-born players for the three-Test series against the All Blacks in New Zealand. Racing Metro flank Bernard le Roux and Clermont prop Daniel Kotze join Antonie Claassen in a squad that includes eight new caps. Fijian-born Clermont winger Noa Nakaitaci is among the newcomers. Saint-Andre has rested flyhalf Francois Trinh-Duc, but included Toulon's Frederic Michalak. France play world champions New Zealand on June 8, 15 and 22 in Auckland, Hamilton and New Plymouth respectively. French super club Toulon's foreign dominance ... Read Article5 Mar 2013
MARK KEOHANE writes the Varsity Cup in its first year rocked. Since then it's just another professional tournament. The Varsity Cup may have the innovation of doing a few things differently, but what was supposed to be a celebration of student rugby somehow just seems like another tournament, in which the traditional power houses remain the traditional strengths in the tournament. Much has been made of the Port Elizabeth-based Nelson Mandela University display this season and equally there has been bewilderment at how poor Shimlas have been. But it seems the old one two of Stellenbosch University ... Read Article12 May 2013
Marcus Watson scored in extra time to beat the Blitzbokke in the London World Series Sevens Cup quarter-finals. The teams were level 14-all at full time. Watson's try came four minutes into extra time. England won 19-14. England had the chance to win the match with the last play of the game in normal time. They were awarded a penalty and opted to take a drop kick for goal. It missed. Watson then rounded off a move after England had retained possession for two minutes. South Africa suffered further embarrassment when they lost for a second time in the tournament to the USA and were eliminated ... Read Article8 Jan 2013
Limpopo will play in the Vodacom Cup as a separate side for the first time this year. The region, which is a sub-union of the Blue Bulls Rugby Union, has been granted a place in the tournament in its own rights to help foster rugby in South Africa’s far north. They join the 14 provincial unions as well as the returning Pampas XV from Argentina in the tournament, which kicks off in the second week of March and concludes in mid-May. The Polokwane-based Limpopo team will play in the North Section of the competition, along with the Blue Bulls, Golden Lions, Griffons, Leopards, Pumas, Valke ... Read Article7 Mar 2013

@stormersboy-40:
Hi Stormersboy, thanks for the offer, sadly Rob will not be at the game, I am going with some other friends and am rather in their hands on this occasion for the game and dinner afterwards (carb loading top of the agenda). Can I FB you if the schedule changes?
It would be great to meet you.
7 Mar 2013, 19:48 pm
I got very little faith in Elton Jantjies if Stormers win it will be because the rest of the team cover for his weaknesses and carry him for as long as he’s on the field I still can’t get over how they can compromise the entire teams season for the sake of a stupid under rationalized overrated and expensive expectation

@I am a stormer-41:
I will go even more slowly up Suikerbossie if they is ANY ROMOTE chance that Percy would give my lycra clad arse a good shove!!
7 Mar 2013, 19:56 pm
@carol-51: Sure, no pressure. If I don’t see you, I hope the ride goes really well!
7 Mar 2013, 20:00 pm
@carol-53:
Love it when you girls talk dirty.
Have a lekker weekend.
7 Mar 2013, 20:09 pm
Look who’s on Boots&all…Mr Smit.
Grant are you watching?
7 Mar 2013, 20:13 pm
@Rage-56:
I think he accidentally just stabbed his hand with a fork while eating dinner.
7 Mar 2013, 20:48 pm
@skopdiekan-52: So if the Stormers win it’s not Jantjies but if they lose it’s only Jantjies? Go figure…
7 Mar 2013, 21:16 pm
Jantjies was the direct catalyst for the total implosion at Lofty Loftus not even a meagre measure of doubt about it. He improved by about 50% for Durban but still was aimless in every kick and every time he handled the ball apart from one slightly lucky deft kick to right wing and one little shimmy up midfield around late first half. That was it. The rest of the time he was absolute pants and the direct catalyst for the Stormers attack momentum to be as effective as an aardvark on a termite hunt.

15-pietersen vs anscombe
14-aplon vs that monster oak
13-de villiers vs explosive williams
12-da allende vs ngatai
11-habana vs masaga
10-jantjies vs cruden
9-groom vs kerr-barlow
This will be a interesting match by the looks of it
7 Mar 2013, 23:10 pm
Fark, Chiefs have no choice but win, if they (or any other hobbitland team for that matter) hope to earn theoretical home final, as Saffa friends have 10 log point handicap (anything less is a miracle).
7 Mar 2013, 23:20 pm
@polaris-61:
Yes Polaris…A Chiefs win here is non negotiable to overcome the so called 10 point headstart the top Sa teams enjoy…..and Go the Kings
7 Mar 2013, 23:23 pm
@skopdiekan-59:
Are you going to beat the Chiefs at Newlands?
7 Mar 2013, 23:27 pm
@Tuna-58: Skop’s prediction is that the Stormers may lose because of Elton, win in spite of Elton, or draw if Elton’s handicap is cancelled out by the rest of the team.
7 Mar 2013, 23:30 pm
@stormer in a teacup-64:
So Elton is a liability then?
7 Mar 2013, 23:30 pm
@stormer in a teacup-64: We are talking about someone who described a kick as both lucky and deft. Nuff said.
7 Mar 2013, 23:31 pm
I guess he was lucky he was so deft.
7 Mar 2013, 23:33 pm
@Te Rangatira-62: So none of the Kiwi teams play the Kings then? That’s unusual.
7 Mar 2013, 23:34 pm
@stormer in a teacup-68:
No they play the Chiefs next
7 Mar 2013, 23:35 pm
@victoriabok-65: if you read between the lines, I believe this is what the Oracle of Springs is telling us,
7 Mar 2013, 23:35 pm
His little lucky kick was more luck than deft it was like a left field option that skewed off the outside of his boot and looked far more deft than luck but it was definitely more lucky than deft.
7 Mar 2013, 23:38 pm
@skopdiekan-71: I think I may have to print that one out and frame it.
7 Mar 2013, 23:38 pm
Jantjies is like a deftly deficient player who is more lucky than deft in more that he does wrong than right
Every now and again he might put a little foot right amongst all the other feet he puts so emphatically wrong and leaving his team on the back foot all game long while he practices putting one left foot in front of the other.
7 Mar 2013, 23:39 pm
@stormer in a teacup-68: Blues don’t play them, so for them it’s potential 10 points missed. For others (I admit being wrong when generalizing) it’s potential 5 points.
7 Mar 2013, 23:43 pm
@skopdiekan-73:
He’s a good player and the Stormers need a new flyhalf
I don’t know if he’s the right player for them but if he shapes you’ll be very happy
7 Mar 2013, 23:43 pm
@polaris-74: those five points have to earned. Ask the Force.
7 Mar 2013, 23:44 pm
Jantjies should be playing for EP Kings for Christmas sake I mean he hails from the metropolis of Graaff Reynette why don’t he pack his knapsack and head off to his true home calling like how about tomorrow before any more deftly deficient defence puts us in the dwang against the cheeky chieftains.
7 Mar 2013, 23:46 pm
@stormer in a teacup-76:
If the Kings could beat the Rebels away as well they would have accomplished a lot and helped the SA conferences
7 Mar 2013, 23:48 pm
@skopdiekan-77:
Who else would you have for a FH?
7 Mar 2013, 23:48 pm
He’s not the right player for Stormers unfortunately he’s the deftly lefty leftover wrong un. We need a proper fly half like a proper one.. you know the one I mean a fly half who don’t deftly try create magical mystery tours down the wrong side of the field.
7 Mar 2013, 23:54 pm
@skopdiekan-80:
Like who?
Lambie?
Goosen?
I’ve liked Catrakilis for WP last year, you should have kept him
7 Mar 2013, 23:58 pm
@skopdiekan-71: Lucky kick or not. Aplon had k4k in his hande. In a tight game like that….. worth more than just 7 point (moral booster of note).
He just that kick more than once at Lions with good effect. My guess is Aplon “skrikked” his g4t off because he does not know plays like that.
8 Mar 2013, 00:00 am
@Tuna-82:
Basson would have scored there
8 Mar 2013, 00:00 am
Any one of Grant Pietersen Duvenhage or Schroeder would be better FH for Stormers than Jantjies. The thing is these Stormers coaching staff are THICK . Do you remember when Schroeder debuted at FH when they were all crocked and we THumped the Bulls at home. Isn’t that an Eyeglass lifter for these brainless deficient defence wins games metronome marsupials? Then Duvenhage debuting at FH vs Blues in Auckland 2 years back and he plays a MOM performance winning the game solo yet they CANNOT see f ‘all. Stick to the narrow confinement of confused cocoon conference cup chasing conundrums.
Anyone of Grant Pietersen Duvenhage or Schroeder would have been better to start vs Bulls and we would have won.
I would probably play Duvenhage at 9 and Schroeder at 10 and have Groom and Grant on bench for a wide awake wake up party.
8 Mar 2013, 00:02 am
@stormer in a teacup-76: True, but we don’t have that much of an illusion Kings will be strong enough to deny bonus point win for SA big 3, have we?
8 Mar 2013, 00:04 am
@skopdiekan-84:
I remember Duvenhage was impressive at FH, but isn’t he a scrumhalf?
Maybe it’s his preferred position, like Deon Fourie who’s a goot flanker but prefer hooker?
8 Mar 2013, 00:05 am
@polaris-85:
We’ll see this week
I think the Kings would target games they can potentially win
8 Mar 2013, 00:07 am
No we SHOULD have kept Pollard and JL Du Plessis like we should have kept Derek Hougaard after Braam van Straaten. Grant and Van Aswegen and Coleman and Duvenhage and Pietersen and Schroeder would have kept Stormers fly half berth saddled and warm till Pollard or Du Plessis or Swiel or one or other local product from the multiple rugby schools we got down here was ready. Chasing after a deftly lucky packet half cooked Carlos Spencer prodigy was the absolutely wrong thing for WP management to get their tittys all lactating about.
8 Mar 2013, 00:13 am
@skopdiekan-88: Tell me then…. why do they leave Province? It’s not just about the money. Don’t you think some of these players are g4tvol because Grant get “special” treatment?
You play for your Province all year and do good then this journey man comes back and just walk into the team. It will make any player g4tvol. That’s why the greek left. Van Aswegen is next to go.
8 Mar 2013, 00:22 am
It’s not just Grant who get “special” treatment. Anton Van Zyl fked off because out of form Bekker was picked ahead of him. At the time Van Zyl was SO much better. Let’s have a look at JDV. How many times have Stormers supporter called for the JF and JDJ combo? JDJ was in form at the time and JDV was struggling. Habana, Burger and the list goes on.
8 Mar 2013, 00:29 am
@Tuna-90:
Van Zyl would still be a great Bok lock together with Mostert
8 Mar 2013, 00:33 am
@skopdiekan-88:
The players would have left as they’ll never get any gametime and if you’re good enough you want to play
AC also doesn’t rotate his players enough to give them gametime, look at how he overplayed Bekker for a couple of years and Etzebeth last year
8 Mar 2013, 00:33 am
They leave province for primarily the inordinate amount of money chucked at their daddy’s little darlings and secondly they leave province for the security of knowing they are in with a good shout at playing first choice in position because they not being sidelined by a bloody mercenary from jobless Joburg who gets chased by the salivating suited WP management due to some deftly lucked out fantastic fancy pants kicking his suave Suarez of a kicking coach taught him up in Jozi.
It’s f ‘all to do with Peter Grant that Pollard and Du Plessis and now Swiel is leaving. Peter Grant is not holding the fly half berth away from development of local talent. Everyone knows Peter Grant paid his dues and got stuffed around by Peter de Villiers and Barney the gatgabba captain who kept Butch in the bok jersey when Grant should have got it then Pienaar and Steyn got it next while both Stransky and Naas both agree that Grant should have been Boks FH since 2008.
Grant is past tense now he’s playing part time club rugby in Japan for moolah and filling in for Stormers in S15 because they still need him because they went and bought an overrated and non compliant S15 fly half from a mercenary franchise stable the same way they bought Habana and Fourie before. And that why the youngsters are going elsewhere. Because of Jantjies is why they say fck this I’m not standing in line another 5 or 6 years while this dude from Jozi comes and fills the FH spot at Stormers I’ll go where the promise is made where I can play top flight rugby within one or two-year deal and not stand in line sucking my toenail waiting for this imposter to move over.
They left because of Jantjies not Grant. Get it straight.
8 Mar 2013, 00:39 am
@skopdiekan-93:
> They left because of Jantjies not Grant. Get it straight.
Nope, this is the reason, you’ve nailed it
“they leave province for the security of knowing they are in with a good shout at playing first choice in position because they not being sidelined by a bloody mercenary from jobless Joburg who gets chased by the salivating suited WP management”
Their track record of ignoring young players is known and taken in consideration by parents, agents and players
8 Mar 2013, 00:40 am
@skopdiekan-93:
> They left because of Jantjies not Grant
This is why Zorba the Greek left for the Kings?
8 Mar 2013, 00:41 am
@skopdiekan-93: I got it straight. Maybe you should read a bit more articles expect for a nobody who tweets Keo. They out lined the problems with your team. I guess you only see what want to see, right. Even your sidekick Grant10 mentioned on this site that Jantjies was not the problem.Then again you the expert right?
8 Mar 2013, 00:41 am
Van Zyl should have had Stormers captaincy not Burger. The Stormers club is run by 2 factions. The Stellenbosch Rupert Burger faction in the one corner and the Titus Toetie Wagner faction in the other. And I doubt ever will the twain factions meet eye to eye over much. That probably why Rassie left and why Carel sends his son to Sharkishits country.
It’s probably the Titus Toetie faction that ran after Jantjies and Pollard snr. and Carel dup decide to send their sons to franchises that will pay good money and guaranteed top flight game time.
8 Mar 2013, 00:46 am
@skopdiekan-97:
> And I doubt ever will the twain factions meet eye to eye over much
> It’s probably the Titus Toetie faction that ran after Jantjies
It seems the Titus faction is winning?
They’re in charge at the moment
8 Mar 2013, 00:49 am
@skopdiekan-97: To be honest. I agree with you. Jantjies must fck off and go back to the Lions. Province/Stormers love to coach the creativity out of a player (case and point Schalk Brits).
Fans love a great defensive record.
I’m out.
8 Mar 2013, 00:55 am
It’s probably also why Quinn Roux and Francois Louw and Zorba Katrakillis left also. For some of these reasons.
Pollard and Du Plessis left for 2 reasons. Big money chucked at them by Meyer and Streauli and 2 because Stormers chose to chase Jantjies and only bothered about being concerned with their long-term potential playing careers as a second thought. In other words money and security plus guaranteed game time is what driving young players like Pollard and Du Plessis away. The purchase of Jantjies was a poke in the eye for these younger stars on the horizon. Peter Grant is halfway over the next ant hill already he’s no longer a long-term fixture but if Jantjies gets settled at Stormers then there would have been a long insecure wait for either of Pollard or Du Plessis.
Nothing to do with Grant they’re gone but probably a whole lot to do with the purchase of Jantjies who ain’t such a great purchase time begin with.
