Lambie puts boot into Kings

Pat Lambie kicked the Sharks to victory in Port Elizabeth but the visitors failed to score a try.
The Sharks won 21 – 12 after leading 12 – 3 at half time.
Pat Lambie scored all 21 points while Demetri Catrakilis’ boot kept the Kings in the match with four penalties of his own.
The Kings surprised all and sundry with yet another hearty performance, not allowing the Sharks to settle into any rhythm whilst defending with great success. At one point, the Kings had made more than 90 tackles and missing only one, a show of great commitment when they could have simply thrown in the towel.
The Sharks got off to a good start with possession deep in the Kings 22m, Jean Deysel being the man to get them the go forward ball. Once Deysel left the field though, things fell apart for the Sharks as nobody quite knew which way to go.
With all the ball the Sharks had one would have expected more points. There is a distinct lack of creativity in the backline, with neither of the potent wingers able to run into space. What is important though is that another away win was achieved, and a team that wins whilst playing poorly, is a sign of a Championship team. Overall though, the Sharks look for from a championship winning team.
Defence kept the Kings in the match, Louis Ludik and Lwazi Mvovo were both held up over the line, two instances where the match could have been put away. The scoreline was very close in the end and the Kings might just rue a few chances at goal that were not taken. The importance of taking the points when on offer ran true for the Sharks particularly, as a different attitude on the night could have cost them dearly.
Sharks coach John Plumtree was correct in stating the Kings will be no easy match, and deserve to be in this competition. On another night, the bounce of the ball would have meant a victory for them, something Alan Solomons and his team will take great heart from.
For John Plumtree and his charges, there is a very strong Brumbies awaiting them at Kings Park next week, while the Kings stay in Port Elizabeth and host the Chiefs.

Almost all the rugby I’ve watched this year, bar a few Kiwi derbies and the Cheetahs, has been really dour. I’ve haven’t watched much of the Celtic or Premiership, except the Quins, but the 6 nations has been god awful too. On to today’s game, that Marais looks quite a nifty fullback and the team plays with a lot of passion but not a lot of brains as of yet. Typical of the countries rugby really. I wish they didn’t have the Chiefs next because they look real slick, even in defeat and it could knock the confidence they had going.
The Sharks need to stop trying to play test rugby. Variation on attack is so poor. With such a good pack of forwards you’d expect them to get something going with the front foot ball.

You know what BB. That year they were chasing that record that stood since the 60′s, I think. That whole season there was a guy, I think he was Johan Oosthuizen or some such name, who won nearly all the races. That night, when Jaco broke the record, was about the only race in which he beat Oosthuizen in that season.
Good on him. He never was the best 400m athlete. He had one brilliant race. He broke the SA record in that race. He became a Bok wing against the Cavaliers and scored a magic try using his speed. But he was never a great athlete nor a great rugby player.
He had SOME speed, or a lot, and that was all.
You guys romantisize the players of the 80′s WAYYYYYYY too much. Remember, those players lost against a Jaquar team that had only ONE world class player in the team.
How do you explain that?
In 1989, they beat a saamgeflanste “world team” by a mere 2 points.
How do you explain that? Should they not have run away with a “world team.” Given that SA were playing some of their best ever back line players in the likes of Naas, Danie, Carel, Heunis etc?

The Sharks are 3 from 3 and 2 were away wins, so it’s still looking good from that point of view.

Hearty congratulations to the Kings. To Cheeky, Solly, Matt and all the players and management. With less time to prepare than the Force or the Rebels and more pressure to succeed in a single season they have already succeeded beyond most expectations but more importantly have produced a quality competitive brand of positive entertaining rugby. Not only are they NOT the embarrassment to South Africa that so many naysayers predicted but they have certainly done South African rugby proud in terms of showing Australia how to successfully launch a new rugby franchise. Very well done to all concerned.

Jaco Reinach lies jointly 246th fastest 400 mts in the world with about 6 or 7 other runners at 45.01 sec. Which means there probably 1000 athletes world wide who have run 400 mts faster. The USA have produced about the top 20 400 mts athletes with Johnson Reynolds and Warriner plus the new 18 year old kid Kirani James would have left Reinach trailing about 15 – 20 mts behind.

what kind of stupid question is this where do I stand on the all time 400 mts list? what goddamn non relevance has that to the question being posed here as to how fast an athlete Jaco Reinach was in terms of outright speed or endurance around one lap of the track? – Nothing obviously, can only come from a sharkshit such stupid non relevant non compos mentis reasoning. Nowhere else.

BOOM BOOM BOOM Sharks still have won all 3 of their games. Records will show 3 consecutive wins. Doesn’t matter how.
In saying that, the Kings played far better than I expected. Would have loved total annihilation, but was not to be.
Going to be interesting to see if the Kings will be able to maintain this style of play and how the other SA teams go against them.

I watched the game again now , the kings lack skill , brains , experience and mostly leadership. I think Luke should have been called up earlier. They have buckets of guts and passion but that will not be good enough for them to stay off the bottom of the log.
The skills department is a worry as I reckon their starting 15 might be able but who else is there ? The experience will come and hopefully with that the brains. Next week Watson is back but I really hope they find place for that current 8th man as well.
The sharks were really diabolical , I think maybe they underestimated the kings a little and wanted to rush things too much , they lacked patience, Deysel when he is not injured is a very good player , problem is he is always injured. The plus side for the Shraks is that they have at least 3 top players on the comeback and all 3 are boks and their captain !
Surprisingly I thought the Greek outplayed Lambie , How WP let him go is beyond me , he is actually a lot more like Honiball than most realize , fearless tackler.
Lastly is it just me but how the heck did Schalk VDM get the MOTM award ? He ave away crucial penalties including one where he rushed a penalty kick resulting in lambie getting a second chance after he actually missed the first !! Thats a gift 3 points !! He cannot scrum since his U21 days at WP , we all know it. He is very good in the loose but it was not good enough to make up.
I said back then that he should rather play hooker as he is too weak for a loosehead.

Sharks beat the Stormers and the Kings…… Stormers v Kings will be a battle between the losers, and I reckon the Kings may just have the edge!
