Lambie puts boot into Kings
9 Mar 2013
Pat Lambie kicked the Sharks to victory in Port Elizabeth but the visitors failed to score a try.
The Sharks won 21 – 12 after leading 12 – 3 at half time.
Pat Lambie scored all 21 points while Demetri Catrakilis’ boot kept the Kings in the match with four penalties of his own.
The Kings surprised all and sundry with yet another hearty performance, not allowing the Sharks to settle into any rhythm whilst defending with great success. At one point, the Kings had made more than 90 tackles and missing only one, a show of great commitment when they could have simply thrown in the towel.
The Sharks got off to a good start with possession deep in the Kings 22m, Jean Deysel being the man to get them the go forward ball. Once Deysel left the field though, things fell apart for the Sharks as nobody quite knew which way to go.
With all the ball the Sharks had one would have expected more points. There is a distinct lack of creativity in the backline, with neither of the potent wingers able to run into space. What is important though is that another away win was achieved, and a team that wins whilst playing poorly, is a sign of a Championship team. Overall though, the Sharks look for from a championship winning team.
Defence kept the Kings in the match, Louis Ludik and Lwazi Mvovo were both held up over the line, two instances where the match could have been put away. The scoreline was very close in the end and the Kings might just rue a few chances at goal that were not taken. The importance of taking the points when on offer ran true for the Sharks particularly, as a different attitude on the night could have cost them dearly.
Sharks coach John Plumtree was correct in stating the Kings will be no easy match, and deserve to be in this competition. On another night, the bounce of the ball would have meant a victory for them, something Alan Solomons and his team will take great heart from.
For John Plumtree and his charges, there is a very strong Brumbies awaiting them at Kings Park next week, while the Kings stay in Port Elizabeth and host the Chiefs.

@mikeybrass-116: I hope we never see the Lions again. This full stadium, the support of the people…….No, the Kings must stay.
(In fact, it might be a full stadium that has caused the guppies stage fright….they ain’t used to 42 000 people in the crowd……….)
@W.P-147: Fern is a miffed. Guppies not as flash as expected. Allow him a mantrum please.
9 Mar 2013, 20:49 pm
Will we be seeing some humble pie from the sharks contingent for the next week? that is rhetorical……. obviously
9 Mar 2013, 20:50 pm
That cramp is clearly a Sharks conspiracy.

9 Mar 2013, 20:51 pm
The Sharks decision to kick most penalties had merit after all.
9 Mar 2013, 20:51 pm
@polaris-151: BOOM?
HG is currently hugging himself tightly whilst listening to soothing Susan Biyle singing something from Les Miserables……

9 Mar 2013, 20:54 pm
Congrats, Sharks fans, win is a win. Even bigger congrats to the Kings, well done, shame they got nothing but pride intact and denied bonus point for the varkies.

9 Mar 2013, 20:55 pm
Sharkshits dragged kings down to their level
9 Mar 2013, 20:55 pm
Wasn’t the Kings fielding 3 international players there at the end? The Kenyan, Argentinian and New Zealander?
9 Mar 2013, 20:55 pm
Well played Kings just goed to show that when SA sides play each other they don’t know how to break down defences. They score more tries against foreign opposition who allow more space on the field.
9 Mar 2013, 20:55 pm
was the referee kiwi?
seems to be some confusion here, I thought that SA refs were the bestest and that no one had any complaints when they ran the show?
9 Mar 2013, 20:55 pm
From a sharks supporter – KINGS YOU BEAUTIES. HERE TO STAY AND MAKING SOME SERIOUS FANS!!!!!!!
Sharks – WAKE UP
9 Mar 2013, 20:55 pm
Well done Sharks. A good side will always win the tough ones.
And the Kings can hold the heads high. They will surprise a few more yet.
9 Mar 2013, 20:55 pm
Sharkishits going to see their overrated gatte big time when they come up against a proper seasoned competitive SR prepared outfit.
9 Mar 2013, 20:55 pm
These Kings can defend! Well played. I was expecting a route. Sharks seem rudderless with Steyn as captain
9 Mar 2013, 20:55 pm
@Dawn-172: very ladylike
9 Mar 2013, 20:55 pm
@170 – its a total 180 turn around between sharks & stormers from 2012 – 2013.
9 Mar 2013, 20:56 pm
well
there was lots of sizzle
a bit of fizzle
but definitely no
BOOM!
9 Mar 2013, 20:56 pm
Sharks are going to win by boring everyone to death, book it now
9 Mar 2013, 20:56 pm
Do Kings get bonus point with that?

Cannot wait for Cheetahs v Kings and Bulls v Sharks
9 Mar 2013, 20:56 pm
The Super Rugby trophy is definitely coming to SA this year, the mighty are 3 from 3
They sure taught those Kings a rugby lesson
Well done Fern, HG and Sharks_are_going_to _get_you
This one is for you
You are the bestest team in the whole wide world
9 Mar 2013, 20:56 pm
Well played Kings. I think any team will battle to beat the Kings in South Africa. They might find it somewhat easier outside the country though. Many thanks to Jason Jaftha, who clearly favoured the heavily outplayed Sharks.
9 Mar 2013, 20:56 pm
Don’t you just like sport. A great leveler.
9 Mar 2013, 20:56 pm
First the cheetahs and Well done Kings , didnt concede a try and kept the sharks on point.
Had Luke been there one can only imagine how much closer the game would have been.
anyway good luck to the bulls tommorow it wont be easy agains the blues
9 Mar 2013, 20:57 pm
Little Jaftha is shafting the Sharks who have no reason to complain since they saw his despicable action last week shafting the Western Force and thus should have objected his appointment, but they didn’t
I am still OK with the Sharks by 3-5 points though
9 Mar 2013, 20:57 pm
@skopdiekan-178: ah c’mon Skoppie any other side and you would be saying its early days yet and you missing key players but not the Sharks. Your hatred is unhealthy
9 Mar 2013, 20:57 pm
@i_love_u_bakkiesbotha-182:
or should it be
lots of fizzle
and a bit of sizzle
9 Mar 2013, 20:57 pm
Congratulations to Rye and the nicer sports on your teams win.
It was much closer than anyone really believed, but still 3 from 3
9 Mar 2013, 20:58 pm
@the curse-162: no, was rather thinking the Sharks need to work on their discipline. Sorry, only you complain about refs….
Another 4 points in the bag and top of the conference now….. the Sharks march on.
Cheetahs. Check.
Stormers. Check.
Kings. Check.
9 Mar 2013, 20:58 pm
Eish, these 100 point defeats are killing me …
9 Mar 2013, 20:59 pm
Kings deserved at least a bonus point
9 Mar 2013, 20:59 pm
Must admit after all the hoohaa about the Kings and transformation the white blonde girls wearing crowns were quite ironic.
bow before your white kings lol.
9 Mar 2013, 20:59 pm
SA team’s attack is so one dimentional. Except for the Cheetahs. Maybe this mean Goosen is really the best Fly in SA?
9 Mar 2013, 21:00 pm
@ShaunB-193:
hmmm no mention of discipline here though
“FFS penalties and short arms only going one way”
Im confused, please help?
9 Mar 2013, 21:00 pm
@nortierd-185: Hey rump ranger, go play ikn your room, you insignificunt little toad.
9 Mar 2013, 21:00 pm
