Messam ton on hold

Messam ton on hold

RICHARD FERGUSON updates keo.co.za followers of the latest Super Rugby news from New Zealand.

Messam century put on hold

Chiefs management are trying to convince Liam Messam to miss the match against the Kings this weekend so he can run out in Hamilton for his 100th Super Rugby match.

Messam is currently on 99 matches and wants to play against the Kings, even though his coaches want to give him the a home game to reach the milestone.

Messam is co-captain of the team and has played in all three previous matches and will put the team before his own milestones, which is why he wants to play in Port Elizabeth this weekend.

Chiefs get reinforcements

The Chiefs have called for reinforcement from New Zealand ahead of their match against the Kings this weekend.

Hooker Rhys Marshall and prop Michael Kainga are on their way to South Africa to replace Mahonri Schwalger and Ben Tameifuna respectively.

Schwalger has a knee injury that will not heal in time for him to take part in the rest of the tour while Tameifuna returns home for personal reasons, apparently a family bereavement.

Bugger the milestones, put out your best team.

Failing that, have him on the bench at least.

Enough of this “we don’t rate the opposition crapolla”

Apparently the Chiefs want Liam Messam to miss the Kings game in favour of playing his 100th game at home instead. http://t.co/OxfglIQh3Y

Bad idea just play the game man. Typical Kiwi’s make a big deal over something like this.

reminds me of Richie McCaw’s ceremony after the game against France in the World Cup for his 100th cap.

if the kings lose by less that 12 and don’t concede more that 2 tries it will be a good day at the office for them – having said that i won’t be shocked if they pull an upset .

well done messam i remember seeing him in Hamilton before he started playing for the chiefs good player.

Chiefs do have a good spread of “Loosie Talent”.

Liam gives 110% every time. A rest will do him no harm.

SO…………………………………………I’m with Brads. Bench him, as Insurance.

Get the best of both worlds.

Not sure exactly who is available in SA, but:

    Sam cane,
    Tanerau Latimar,
    Ross Filipo.

    Not a bad Trio.

What a stupid mindset by the coaches.

If he is rested, I very much doubt it will be for sentimental reasons.

Truth is the kings will find NZ opposition a little too hot too handle. Defending for large periods against SA teams with little to no imagination in their backlines (stampkar tactics) is a different proposition to these hot-stepping Kiwi’s.

rest him and bring him back for the big guns. A few locally based coaches could learn a thing or two
