Captain Keegan returns
14 Mar 2013
Keegan Daniel is back to lead the Sharks against the Brumbies.
Daniel is one of three changes to the starting line-up that overcame the Kings in Port Elizabeth last weekend. With Jean Deysel’s injury, Daniel’s return couldn’t have been better timed.
The other changes are in the backline where Charl McLeod starts ahead of Cobus Reinach while Odwa Ndungane is selected ahead of Lwazi Mvovo. These changes might be seen as rotation, but personally I think John Plumtree wants the most experienced side on the park against a tough Brumbies team.
The tinkering in the backline indicates a greater focus on the Brumbies’ kicking game, with Odwa Ndungane notoriously better than Mvovo under the high ball, and with his stints at fullback, will be a second for Louis Ludik. McLeod’s inclusion over Reinach could be purely on form after the youngster battled against the Kings, being substituted for the last quarter of the match, where McLeod showed some good form.
The bench sees the two dropped backline players take their spots, while Jacques Botes’ cracked wrist must not be too serious as he takes his place as backup.
Sharks: 15 Louis Ludik, 14 JP Pietersen, 13 Paul Jordaan, 12 Francois Steyn, 11 Odwa Ndungane 10 Patrick Lambie, 9 Charl McLeod, 8 Ryan Kankowski, 7 Keegan Daniel (captain), 6 Marcell Coetzee, 5 Franco van der Merwe, 4 Anton Bresler, 3 Jannie du Plessis, 2 Craig Burden, 1 Tendai Mtawarira.Substitutes: 16 Kyle Cooper, 17 Wiehahn Herbst, 18 Pieter-Steph du Toit, 19 Jacques Botes, 20 Cobus Reinach, 21 Meyer Bosman, 22 Lwazi Mvovo.

The Brumbies have opetd for a much larger pack against the Sharks.
That Fotu Auelua is a beast.
14 Mar 2013, 12:44 pm
@Transformation-55:

@Heavens Game-39: BBOM was the sound of Daniels’ ego deflating faster than his arse let out air from his dump
Poor soul hadn’t recovered by the time of the post-match interview, knowing his dump gave us the trophy.
14 Mar 2013, 12:48 pm
So Jake has played his hand.

Goosen compared to Carter
——————————————————————————–
by Brenden Nel 14 March 2013, 12:00
It may be to add more pressure onto his young shoulders, but Toyota Cheetahs flyhalf Johan Goosen was paid the ultimate compliment when one of New Zealand’s leading rugby magazines asked the question on their cover this week – “Is this the new Dan Carter?”
The 20-year old Goosen, currently in Sydney with his teammates as they prepare for their Vodacom Super Rugby match against the Waratahs on Friday, was given the honour by New Zealand Rugby magazine, Rugby News, who used the comparison to Carter, a World Cup winner and World Rugby player of the year, as the future of South African rugby.
Goosen has already played for the Boks and started against the All Blacks at FNB Stadium last year but his season was curtailed by injury and the youngster has played down comparisons to Carter in an interview in the magazine.
For one Goosen points out he is far from the wunderkind that everyone says he is, and believes his tactical kicking needs to improve significantly if he is to make the same sort of impact on world rugby that Carter did for the All Blacks.
“I think I must listen to that praise and let it come in and go out,” he told Rugbynews, “I must keep my head in the game and focus on what I am doing.
“(My tactical kicking) is a weakness in my game, so I am working hard on it,” adding he had taken many tips from working with veteran Morne Steyn during last year’s Castle Rugby Championship.
It was good to see the youngster slot all his kicks as the Cheetahs shocked the Highlanders in Invercargill on the weekend, and given the confidence he received from the win and his own resurgence in play, there is hope that if he stays injury free he could reach the heights others think he can.
For now though, he simply wants to play
14 Mar 2013, 12:59 pm
@John Galt-54:
That might be a heavy pack, but its an inexperienced front rower in debutant starter Sio facing up to Jannie.
Not Jake’s style to leave a weakness like that?!
And dropping Clyde? Mind games!
14 Mar 2013, 12:59 pm
oh my it would be poetic justice if the chiefs had to fly all over the globe in reaching a final or semi this year.
14 Mar 2013, 13:00 pm
Goosen > Carter
14 Mar 2013, 13:01 pm
@The Rangerman-66:
Cruden the new Carter?
I like it!
14 Mar 2013, 13:02 pm
@Richard Ferguson-71: yes something like that would be great.
the kings need all the help they can get.

@grant10-67:
And there was Poep telling us we hype our rugby players too much.

Do that article and Bakkies will be your friend for life
14 Mar 2013, 13:38 pm
@The Rangerman-51: Ja, Elton the speed bump…
A pity though – made him a bit of a scapegoat for the Capeys… Even though it was clear as daylight he is the best back in a Stormers jersey especially against the Chiefs…
14 Mar 2013, 13:41 pm
@mikeybrass-60: Ja, much like JPP making Donkey his bi.yatch last year, and pretty much every game ever after too…
Floundering, tackling a puff of dust, while JPP calmly puts the ball down over tryline… score…
BOOM!
14 Mar 2013, 13:49 pm
@nortierd-75:
if he wants a buddy4life he should rather do a piece on Kiwi cheating. he could focus on the Chiefs seeing as they’re so expertly conducted, like a Viennese orchestra, by W. Smith at the moment.
14 Mar 2013, 13:56 pm
@i_love_u_bakkiesbotha-78:
So rather something like Cheating Chiefs’ Cruden the next Carter?
14 Mar 2013, 13:58 pm
@i_love_u_bakkiesbotha-78: Looks like Pooper and NZChinky are “In France” at the moment…
“Cowardly” little sheepshaggers…
Quite endearing though…

14 Mar 2013, 14:24 pm
@mikeybrass-61: Keegan is Legend… He needs no ego…
The Gangnam Gangster is a good player – except in CT it seems, where he sits on the bench…
Unlike in Cape Town, he is probably more appreciated in Kings Park… And to get past a legend like Daniel – undoubtedly the most skillful loosie on the planet, if not the most skilled rugger player, bar maybe Sunni Bull – then Gangnam De Jong must be farken good…
And that he is… Just you blonde obsessed Capeys dont even know it… Rather prefer Donkey and Joe to Juan and Apples…
14 Mar 2013, 14:27 pm
@i_love_u_bakkiesbotha-82: When sh it

Two kiwis – a podgy maori and skinny pakeha – hitching lifts from Perpignan to Strasbourg and back for the rest of the year… learning hard how to wave the white flag with finesse
What a sight for sore Light Blue eyes… Magnifique!

14 Mar 2013, 14:34 pm
@Heavens Game-88: Keegan? The most skilful loosie on the planet? Which planet would that be? Pluto? And only because he is the ONLY loosie on the planet?
Your PR machine rolls along like an Argie maul carrying a non-paying passenger……….
@ryecatcher-89: Howdy Rye. How are you doing? All good?
14 Mar 2013, 14:36 pm
@i_love_u_bakkiesbotha-84: Canterbury Crusaders’ Carter closes career as salivating centenary celebrations sees super Spies, seeking salvation, sprinting in six salacious solitary scores.
