Ebersohn Forces Reds upset
16 Mar 2013
Sias Ebersohn kicked the Force to a surprise win over the Reds in Brisbane.
The Force won 19 – 12 after leading 13 – 12 at half time.
Sias Ebersohn played a commanding game to break the Suncorp Stadium hoodoo, kicking 14 points to lead the Force to victory. His linking with Alby Matthewson was impressive and the two outplayed their Australian counterparts.
Alfie Mafi scored the only try of the match after a brilliant break from Matthewson, who was one of the Force’s players of the match. He was testing the Reds defence all night with impressive darts from the behind a pack that punched above its weight.
The Force managed to keep the Reds scoreless in the second half, when they were throwing everything at a Force defence that stood strong. It was the Force defence that won the match in the end, holding up the Reds attack over the line on multiple occasions.
The match was more along the lines of what we saw from the Australian teams last year, with dull skill-less game play. Quade Cooper tried to step up the skill levels and the pace, but was unable to find a player to read his mind, with most passes going astray.
The Force will hope this momentum can overcome the Cheetahs next weekend, who will be very keen to get a third win on their tour. For the Reds, it doesn’t get any easier as they host the Bulls, hurting from a defeat against the Crusaders.

Sharks
I just hope they disappoint me too.
The amount of away victories so far this season is a fair percentage but I believe the Sharks will pull it through at home.

This Cooper is the most overrated flyhalf in world rugby. Force basically won this game at halfback and at the breakdown. If wallabies go Cooper at 10 they’re stuffed before they start. Had a sneaker that Force were going to surprise tonight because Reds been poor this season and Force had some good games with unlucky results against Brumbies and Waratahs.
Force 9 and 10 far better than Genia and Cooper tonight.

@Angostura-51:
How so?
It does not have any bearing on the SA conference.

Force also deserved to win at Loftus, before Japhta intervened

If Sharks can’t thump Jake and his fakes tonight then Sharks will be living up to what I always suspected they are a bunch of misfit mercenary humping misfiring Sharkishits. If Sharks can’t fundamentally moer the miserable mega Mogg Mowen and Messrs Messiahs back into reality zone then Sharks are the nothing never nowhere non entities I always assumed they were.

A Force win means Kings can stay behind at bottom of overall log.
Glad for other 4 SA Teams.
Reds have to miss the cut for play-offs.
Congratulations Sias Ebersohn and Force.
Now Ebersohn vs Ebersobn next week!

Yes, but it does not matter really.
The only log they should be concerned about is the SA conference log. Not ending last on that log must be the aim in order for them not to play the promo/relegation match.
Doesn’t help that much if they end up in 15th or 14th position overall but still end up last in the SA conference.
Just my take on it.

I understand your view from a Kings point to stay in S15 next year.

@nama1-56: nama, tis a matter of national pride, & of Kings’ team & supporter psychology:
Do you like seeing an SA Franchise finishing bottom of the overall S15 log? Are you inured to that?
The Kings are potentially locked into 3 separate battles this season, namely:
1. For the battle to avoid the overall S15 wooden spoon (with the Force, Rebels, & perhaps the Cheetahs, & the Highlanders);
2. For the battle with the Cheetahs to avoid the SA Conference wooden spoon;
3. For the battle with the Lions to avoid S15 relegation.
The last battle is not certain, but nonetheless likely to come to pass, & of course, for the Kings, the most important of the above battles. Their whole season must ultimately serve the purpose of preparing & steeling them for this battle.
Avoiding the overall S15 wooden spoon is important to show that they belong, for self-belief & for team & supporters’ morale.
Thus the performances of the Force, Rebels, Cheetahs & (possibly) the Highlanders have a heightened impact on the Kings, relatively speaking.
In this context today’s victory of the Force is bad for the Kings.
