Freak accident ends Goosen’s season

Johan Goosen’s rugby season is over.

The talented Springbok flyhalf missed most of the 2012 Super Rugby season because of a shoulder injury. He returned to make his Test debut in the Rugby Championship but hurt his knee against the All Blacks and had surgery, which ruled him out for the Currie Cup and End of Year tour.

Now after two impressive displays in New Zealand and Australia he has damaged knee ligaments in the other knee in what team management described as a freak accident.

It was confirmed on Tuesday that Goosen would have an operation after tearing cruciate ligaments when slipping during goalkicking practise.

He won’t play again this year.

Goosen is 20 years old.
