New look Bulls brace for Brisbane
20 Mar 2013
Louis Fouché starts at flyhalf for the Bulls against the Reds.
The young NO 10 is one of nine changes to the Bulls line-up after the 41-19 defeat against the Crusaders in Christchurch.
Bulls coach Frans Ludeke is missing three players from the Saders defeat for injury, but the other changes are a combination of rotation and because of a lack of form.
The Reds last week lost at home to the Force.
Bulls: 15 Zane Kirchner, 14 Lionel Mapoe, 13 JJ Engelbrecht, 12 Francois Venter, 11 Bjorn Basson, 10 Louis Fouché, 9 Jano Vermaak, 8 Pierre Spies (captain), 7 Dewald Potgieter, 6 Deon Stegmann, 5 Grant Hattingh, 4 Paul Willemse, 3 Werner Kruger, 2 Chiliboy Ralepelle, 1 Morné Mellet.
Replacements: 16 Willie Wepener, 17 Frik Kirsten, 18 Juandré Kruger, 19 Jacques Potgieter, 20 Ruan Snyman, 21 Morné Steyn, 22 Jan Serfontein.

Agreed.
I’m hoping its a typo.

Ludeke back in lunacy mode. He could have secured a 4-point win with a more conventional selection.

If the bulls are targeting the brumbies that will be dumb. Are the brumbies points better than the reds? And haven’t they heard of the saying ‘take it one game at a time and don’t look too far in the future’? Sport can be cruel sometimes
20 Mar 2013, 13:14 pm
This team just show that Ludeke and the rest of the management team have been targeting the Brumbies match for a win all along. Resting their top guns to face the Brumbies next Saturday on their return from SA. They could never imagine during their planning sessions that the Reds would be as mediocre as they’ve been so far.
So, do one give them credit for sticking to their original plan or do you slate them for not going for the jugular against the Reds who must be low on confidence after their humiliation at home against the “lowly” Force?
Not that bad a team except for the lock pairing who is an unknown entity in this competition and of course Fouche at fly half. The centre combination look a bit dodgy as well.
Watter Louis gaan opdaag? Die een wat darem ‘n bietjie rugby kan speel of die een wat “kak aanjaag” ‘n nuwe definisie gaan gee?

Wow.
That is one of the more mobile packs the Bulls have fielded in recent years.
Expect Fouche to spin the ball wide.

@S_K-61: Agree, cant be worse than the ***** show vs Saders. When oh when will they axe BritneySpies ? He doesnt even look p*ssed when oppo score .. BS politics at Bulls.
Dump him and crown Arno .. then you will have a capt that lays body on the line.
20 Mar 2013, 16:00 pm
Sorry but think Reds will take this one .. starting to build momentum and too smart fro the dumb Bulls tactics … hope Deans gets the Bulls job next !!

I still believe that the Bulls are targetting the Brumbies…why?
what are the chances of of any good side playing three tough sides consecutively with two long trips. Sharks, Stormers and Bulls are tough sides to beat nevermind having them on consecutive weekends!!!
Bulls are going to make sure their Bully Beeves are fresh to rampage. I think the Bulls have targetted 8 points on the road the Brumbies look the most vulnerable.
Why not the Reds – the Bulls have lost to the worst reds outfit in the past in Brisbane. Even if the current reds are looking below par they are better than what ran onto the park in bygone years..

just made my night!!!!

@wallabie.-66: Maybe the Bulls of yesteryear, this lot from Capt to 15 are no where near the standard set of 2011 etc.
Hope I am wrong but have a feeling Bulls cannot execute without strong arming the oppo. Brumbies have some big lads and well disciplined.
20 Mar 2013, 16:10 pm
@wallabie.-67: Has done the rounds back in 2012 .. cant lay claim to it unfortunately .. appropriate though !

@Puma-10:
How are you going buddy?
I had tipped the Sharks to win so you can imagine the pleasant surprise I got when I woke up in the morning. To beat the Sharks at the Tank is a mean feat.
The Sharks are a really good side that is just missing 2% somewhere but when they get that 2% they are going to be the team to beat fortunately the Brumbies got to them before they have got there.
But having said that a good one time score does not make a fairytale marriage!!
20 Mar 2013, 17:17 pm
Bulls will beat Brumbies next week as they will be tired after playing the mighty Stormers and then flight home.
Just joking! (maybe next Saturday we will say the flight home is the reason for a Brumbie loss)
20 Mar 2013, 19:58 pm
Much better Bulls side but Ludecke should have really shown some ballas and dropped Spies to bench also
Should have gone
Visser Engelbrecht Mapoe Venter Bassoon
Fouche Vermaak
Botha Potgieter Stegmann
Hattingh Willemse
Kirsten Chili Mellet
Wepener Kruger Kruger Spies / Potgieter Snyman Steyn Serfontein
20 Mar 2013, 20:07 pm
This Bulls side apart from Spies and Kirchner better than the side chosen against Crusaders I won’t be surprised they take Reds in Brisbane.
Should have played Visser ahead of Kirchner at FB
Swap Engelbrecht to wing and Mapoe to 13
Botha to 8 drop Spies
Kirsten ahead of Kruger
And you almost got a real first fire Bulls side that can do some serious business and give captaincy to Dewald Potgieter and get the show on the road eventually
Big improvement already with Fouche and Venter and Willemse. Just switch Engelbrecht and Mapoe Botha and Spies drop Kirchner to bench and start Kirsten ahead of Kruger and you starting to cook with some gas.

If this is some form of praise from you skop this will be a first and i hope you have not put the mockers on them. There are some interesting selections, iam looking forward to see willemse and hattingh at lock and fouche at flyhalf although i have doubts about his ability and temprament to play at this level.Go Bulls and kick the reds arses.

Your brilliant analysis overlooked just one small factor it called the Referee
Name is Lackie and he may not bet as sympathetic to the Bulls cause as Joubert, Jonker , Pro legota, Peyper and the rest of those frauds. We’ll see some fun kickings by Cooper behind the Bulls’ gallant b(l)ack three, entertainment is guaranteed

Ahh stats, wonderful to play with…
Three of the Cheetahs on the most missed list also made the most tackles made list:
Lappies 8/78 = 16%
Ebersohn 9/55 = 16.4%
Van der Walt 12/50 = 24%
Most tackle made list include 4 Cheetahs, 2 Bulls, and one each for the Kings and Sharks. Anyway, not much to stats other than a little bit of fun as the ultimate stat is the scoreboard after 80 minutes.
PS Just have to add one more thing, you actually need to attempt a tackle for it to be counted as a miss. Leaving the barn door wide open counts for nothing in the stats…
21 Mar 2013, 09:10 am
@Slartibartfast-76: true. i didn’t check the tackle stats just now… did you include the missed tackles in the total?
ex.. Lappies 8/ 78+8=86 = 9.3% attempted tackles missed.
so yes… lots that gets missed inbetween the numbers. where on the field it happened, what was the weight difference between the two players in contact, was there an overlap on at the time, how many of those led to tries, directly or indirectly. etc etc.
but in the end it means something… maybe, if lappies, ebersohn and vd Walt must make and miss all the tackles, where’s the rest of the guys..
