Injuries for Reds, Rebels sent home

RICHARD FERGUSON updates followers of the latest Super Rugby news from Australia.

Injury concerns for Reds

Reds coach Ewen McKenzie is holding his breath over injuries to three key players. Digby Ioane hurt his knee while Ben Tapuai and Mike Harris hurt their hands in the team’s win over the Bulls.

All three players have gone for scans and the extent of their injuries will be confirmed later in the week. This comes after the Reds welcomed back both Will Genia and James Horwill over the last few weeks, as the injuries continue to hamper the team’s consistency.

Genia played 60 minutes while Horwill was allowed only the first half, but both should be ready to play longer against the Highlanders this week.

Vuna, Beale sent home

Cooper Vuna and Kurtley Beale have been sent home, on different planes, following an incident in Durban following the loss against the Sharks.

Apparently Beale punched Vuna after an incident which involved captain Gareth Delve. The story goes that Delve told Beale to put on his shirt before getting off the team bus, after which Beale went into an abusive rant. Vuna got involved and was punched for his efforts.

You might question Vuna’s suspension if that is the case, but the winger took to twitter with the story, which prevented the story from being dealt with internally and without a media circus.

The Rebels face the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein this weekend, without the two backs.
